Chapter 1 - GTAG Chapter 1: New Godzilla

GTAG Chapter 1: New Godzilla

It hurts.

It really hurts.

Terribly so.

But where the pain was coming from, he couldn't say. Or rather, it seemed to be everywhere.

It was like waking up with your whole body aching, yet unable to move.

No, this was even worse than that.

Had he kicked the blanket aside while sleeping?

Impossible. He slept quietly, rarely turning over.

Unless it was instinctively due to cold or heat, grabbing for warmth or tossing the blanket away.

But neither of those situations applied.

How had he fallen asleep anyway?

It seemed he had forgotten.

And after all this time, shouldn't he have opened his eyes?

"Roar!"

A scream, unlike any he had ever heard, erupted from his mouth.

Yet it was only a subconscious groan upon waking.

Still, that roar terrified everyone around!

"Wasn't it supposed to be dead? How is it still moving!?"

How many times had today embarrassed him?

First, they said the enormous unknown creature in the sea could never come ashore, that its body couldn't survive, its legs had degenerated.

Fine, he quickly held a press conference to calm the citizens.

But the next second, the creature landed in Kamata!

He had barely finished speaking.

Thankfully, the creature collapsed shortly after landing.

It was estimated dead.

Being a gill-breathing creature, it should suffocate on land.

He rushed to assure the public, but the creature let out a skyward roar the moment he spoke.

This wasn't just a roar—it was spitting directly at him.

And not politely.

What now?

Since the creature's discovery, the government had taken no rescue action.

Evacuations were self-organized, chaotic—a scene of apocalypse.

The footage had gone online. The nation was humiliated.

Officials debated strategies, arguing endlessly.

And meanwhile, the creature was as confused as they were.

Pain!

Every part of his body hurt!

That was his first sensation upon waking.

He also felt his sight was a bit higher than normal.

But such trivial questions were meaningless now.

He only wanted the pain to stop, even a little.

Not just pain—there was silence, suffocation.

He couldn't hear anything outside, and breathing felt blocked.

What was happening?

He thrashed and slammed at everything around, trying to vent the pain, to feel better.

Bang~

Crash~

Then he could hear sound again.

Not only that, the pain throughout his body eased somewhat—not gone, but much less unbearable.

And it was then he realized something was off.

Why was his perspective so high?

Why did the surroundings feel so unfamiliar?

With his vision now sharp, he spotted familiar writing among the ruins.

Japanese?

So he was in…

He tried to stand and look around, but his head hit the ground halfway up.

Only then did he realize he was probably no longer human.

He wasn't wearing any weird mask either.

As he searched for clues, he noticed he could breathe.

Breathing, though, wasn't the point.

He turned his neck and saw coral-like structures growing on his back.

Then his weak little legs and a tail longer than his body.

The familiar form matched a creature in his memory.

New Godzilla.

This wasn't the Godzilla of the American Legendary Universe.

Originally an ancient creature, mutation from nuclear exposure and evolution had wreaked unimaginable destruction, earning the name Godzilla.

Becoming Godzilla was overwhelming.

No longer human, adaptation was impossible at first.

Especially since he had been an ordinary person.

Like countless fans, he had hoped to cross over.

And after crossing, as long as it wasn't too extreme, he could accept it.

But at least give him time to adjust.

He was now in the capital of an island nation. They wouldn't let him off easily.

Good news—the government responded slowly.

For now, he had enough time to grow.

And for Godzilla, evolution didn't take long.

In this brief time, lungs developed, enabling breathing on land. Every body part adjusted accordingly.

Legs thickened, feet could now support land walking, and chest sides split into arms—dry, tree-like limbs.

This caused tearing in nearly every tissue.

Now he understood the pain—the high-speed evolution had ripped his body apart.

Blood flowed freely from the tears.

In the films, Godzilla showed three main forms, from the second to the fourth stage.

The first stage evolved in the sea; upon landing, he was already in the second stage.

The ideal moment to attack Godzilla was during this second stage.

Having just transitioned to land, internal heat from rapid evolution overwhelmed his cooling system.

An attack now could drive him back to the ocean to cool, forcing the atomic core into shutdown, waiting for reactivation.
