GTAG Chapter 5: Interception
With his biological radar, Godzilla could easily sense every corner of the city.
During the long, dull wait, he clearly "saw" large numbers of people fleeing.
He had thought his radiation beam had killed most of the city's inhabitants. To his surprise, so many had survived.
It seemed his attack hadn't even wiped out half the population.
He couldn't help but marvel at humanity's tenacity. Even when struck by a disaster of apocalyptic proportions, they still clung to life.
But Godzilla had no intention of finishing them off.
Survival was their own ability. He had no need for needless slaughter.
In truth, if not for declaring his power to the world, he wouldn't even have wanted to unleash the radiation beam.
Half a day slipped by.
The sun set, the moon rose.
This city, once vibrant even at night, now had only a handful of lights left.
In their place, flames burned across most of the ruins.
Amid the fire, Godzilla raised his head toward the distance.
His radar picked up something approaching fast.
So, it had finally come.
But instead of an intercontinental missile, as he expected, only a drone appeared, carrying a nuclear payload.
Before it could get close, Godzilla's spines lit with a blue glow. A beam erupted from his jaws, piercing the clouds.
Radiation Beam!
The drone was destroyed instantly, reduced to flaming debris that rained from the sky.
Yet, even after its destruction, no other air units appeared.
Minutes passed in silence.
That was it?
Godzilla felt bored, cheated even.
He had expected at least a few ICBMs. But just one drone? It was insulting.
Though he had no proof he could survive a direct nuclear blast, instinct told him he would.
After all, the nuclear furnace within his chest burned hotter than any bomb.
With that reactor in his body, how could a mere million-degree explosion harm him?
He began moving toward the sea, each step covering dozens of meters despite appearing slow.
But then his senses picked up another object rushing toward him at incredible speed.
A missile? An ICBM?
Before his thoughts could settle, his body reacted on its own.
Normally, unless he willed it, the radiation beam was linked to his radar system.
When radar detected a threat, his body would automatically fire to intercept.
Now his massive tail arched high above his head, glowing blue from base to tip. In the next instant, a beam shot skyward, detonating the incoming warhead midair.
Satellites above captured the blinding flash as a nuclear warhead exploded.
But America could not celebrate.
The nuke hadn't hit its target—it had been intercepted and detonated prematurely.
The result was unacceptable.
Not just for them, but for every other nation as well.
It meant humanity's strongest weapon was useless.
If even ICBMs could be intercepted, what else could they do against this monster?
What next—carry the bomb by hand to his side and set it off?
Ridiculous.
Panic spread worldwide as people scrambled for answers.
Yet every plan sounded foolish.
Some proposed building spacecraft and abandoning Earth altogether.
But even if a ship could be built, could it sustain human life in the void of space? Without gravity, humans would perish on their own.
The world's only true superpower split into two factions.
One believed that since Godzilla couldn't be killed, leaving Earth was the only option.
The other argued they must create even stronger weapons.
At this point, they recalled a plan once suggested by the island nation: freezing Godzilla with coagulant.
Compared to other wild proposals, this seemed feasible.
At least the coagulant was designed by analyzing Godzilla's own cells, a weapon tailored specifically for him.
But even with such a weapon, the question remained—how to inject it into him?
They couldn't exactly topple skyscrapers onto him and pour it into his mouth.
A better option might be armor-piercing shells capable of penetrating his hide, carrying the coagulant directly inside.
Whatever the method, every major nation worked frantically to develop weapons against Godzilla.
At least, that was what they claimed.
In truth, who could say whether those weapons were meant for Godzilla or for each other?
Even with the threat of a monster capable of ending the world, human conflict did not cease.
Meanwhile, the source of their fear—Godzilla—was swimming in the ocean depths.
Once underwater, he vanished from satellite sight.
In the dark sea, he shifted his form slightly.
His current body was built for walking on land, cumbersome for swimming.
So his limbs reshaped into fins better suited for movement in water. His body grew longer and more streamlined, his tail flattened instead of round.
