GTAG Chapter 7: Energy Source
For reasons unknown, the so-called "Creators" vanished after making humanity. From then until now, they had never shown themselves again.
Even if they would not appear, then humanity would seek them out!
An elderly man, frail and clinging to life even with the aid of humanity's most advanced technology, poured all his resources into building the most cutting-edge spacecraft. His goal was to travel to the planet where the "Creators" might exist.
That vessel, named Prometheus, set out from Earth.
But even the most advanced human craft was limited by technology. It could not reach its destination quickly. The crew had no choice but to remain in long-term stasis.
The only one who stayed awake aboard the ship was a synthetic named David.
A synthetic who had developed self-awareness.
Every crew member felt excited about this expedition into the unknown.
Whether they succeeded or failed, their names would be etched into history.
············
What did it feel like to traverse time and space?
Godzilla could not describe it. He only saw a blur, then—whoosh—he was gone from where he stood, reappearing on solid land.
Even the seawater clinging to his body and the magma coating his lower half had not come along with him. His hide was perfectly dry.
It seemed, at least for now, he could only transport himself.
Or perhaps… carrying other matter would consume far more energy?
Sensing that a full thirty percent of his energy reserves had vanished, Godzilla lifted his gaze to survey his surroundings.
He had arrived on a rocky wasteland, a barren land of sandstorms and wind.
Air that would have been brutally harsh for ordinary life forms posed no threat to him.
The elements needed for nuclear fusion were abundant in this atmosphere.
When he crossed over, he had not shifted forms—he still bore his oceanic body.
So when he materialized here, he was sprawled on the ground.
Godzilla took some time to adjust his form, rising up until his view of the horizon lifted higher. He wanted to find the familiar landmark etched in his memory.
A few seconds later, he abandoned searching with his eyes and switched to radar.
Thus began his aimless wandering across this planet.
He did not find the Engineers' ship he sought.
Instead, his movements stirred something else awake.
Xenomorphs.
Seeing creatures identical to the ones in his memories—not the imperfect ones David had created, but the real thing—Godzilla fell silent.
Then he raised one massive leg and stomped.
Boom!
With a deafening roar and a tremor through the earth, the swarm of Xenomorphs surrounding him collapsed. Many were crushed to pulp, their bodies obliterated.
Those further away sensed this was no foe to provoke and quickly retreated.
Xenomorphs were terrifying killing machines, but not without intelligence.
They felt no fear, yet still would not throw themselves at an indestructible enemy.
Unless the Queen commanded it.
Ssshhht—
From beneath his foot came the faint hiss of corrosion.
The ground where the crushed Xenomorphs lay was awash with green blood.
The acidic fluid burned through the rocks, and even Godzilla felt a tingling sensation on the soles of his feet.
It was like standing in magma.
The blood could not harm him, yet it gave him a strange sensation.
So these Xenomorphs—were they the handiwork of the Engineers?
Judging by how advanced they had already become, they must have existed for quite some time. If he followed them, he might find the Engineers' ship.
Of course, another possibility existed: this was the timeline after David had bred the Xenomorphs.
In that case, they would still be here.
But that seemed unlikely—there weren't enough host organisms to sustain their evolution.
While pondering, Godzilla began trailing the creatures.
The Xenomorphs soon noticed the massive beast tailing them.
They halted, then turned and launched a frenzied assault.
They would not risk leading Godzilla back to their nest. The Queen's survival mattered more than their own lives.
Godzilla did not bother with them. His simple strides crushed half of them beneath his steps.
The stragglers forced him to stomp a few more times.
What a waste.
If they had obediently led him to the Engineers' ship, they could have lived.
He had no real interest in them.
With no guides left, Godzilla pressed onward in the direction they had come from.
After half an hour, he found no nest.
Instead, he sensed a massive energy source.
Though his radar range was limited, his sensitivity to energy spread across the entire planet.
A moment ago, a foreign energy signature had entered from space and landed here.
Could it be a spacecraft?
Godzilla considered this, then set off to investigate.
It was most likely a human ship.
The energy he felt was unmistakable—nuclear fusion.
The Engineers had long since disappeared, unseen for ages.
Even the giants who might have been their descendants had been wiped out by David.
David alone had destroyed a planet full of giants. Clearly, their civilization had already fallen far into decline.
Meanwhile, Prometheus had reached LV-223 and discovered what they had been searching for—
Ruins that might have belonged to humanity's creators.
They immediately set out to explore.
But the expedition went poorly. Two crew members were lost within the ruins.
Strangely, the entire crew showed little sense of danger.
In an unknown ruin, they removed their helmets just because the air was breathable?
Shouldn't breathable air be cause for even greater caution?
Who knew what pathogens might lurk unseen?
When instruments detected a sandstorm approaching, the crew had no choice but to abandon their exploration and return to the ship.
As they studied a severed head they had brought back, an alarm blared across the ship.
This time, no one remained calm.
"What's going on?"
They rushed to the captain for answers, abandoning their research.
The alarm had been wailing nonstop since it began.
"An energy source is approaching," the captain said.
"An energy source? What do you mean? Another ship?"
"No… it's something else…"
The captain's gaze shifted to the projection ahead.
A terrifying creature was slowly coming into view.
