GTAG Chapter 4: A Useless Plan
In truth, the Prime Minister didn't even need to speak. A helicopter had already been prepared long ago. The moment he arrived, he could leave immediately.
And so, just as Godzilla broke the surface, rising step by step from the depths of the sea and onto land, countless helicopters lifted off from the capital city.
At the exact same moment Godzilla appeared, he sharply sensed that he had been locked onto.
No matter how slow the island nation reacted, three whole days had been more than enough for them to mobilize their military.
By now, countless weapons were aimed directly at him.
Thinking this, Godzilla saw sparks flare on the ground not far away—moments later, countless shells rained down on his body.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
The deafening barrage exploded nonstop.
And Godzilla's reaction was… nothing at all.
Aside from the noise being irritating, he felt absolutely nothing. Not a scratch, not even chipped paint.
But Godzilla had no intention of just standing there and taking it.
They had struck first—he would strike back.
"What is that…?"
Through satellites and surveillance, those watching Godzilla all had the same thought.
His dorsal fins lit with a strange glow as he lowered his massive head.
Godzilla opened his jaws wide, splitting his chin in two. From his maw, a terrifying torrent of fire spewed forth. In an instant, it reached the ground and spread outward, igniting the very earth.
But that was only the beginning.
The fire gradually condensed into a concentrated blue beam.
This was no ordinary flame—it carried both scorching heat and terrifying penetration.
Just by raising his head and sweeping his aim, every building touched by the beam was instantly pierced through.
The places struck melted into rivers of magma.
Buildings were not his target, though. Turning his head slightly, Godzilla swept the tank forces across the ground.
With just a casual motion, the entire armored division was annihilated.
Next were the planes in the sky.
They proved more troublesome, forcing Godzilla to sweep his beam in wide arcs.
But those arcs devastated the city even further, transforming it into a vision of hell. Flames engulfed everything, and in their midst stood Godzilla.
The image left every observer speechless.
None of them had expected Godzilla to possess such horrifying destructive power.
"Does it… does it intend to destroy the world?"
The ability Godzilla had just revealed was enough to annihilate the entire planet.
In less than a few minutes—perhaps even less—half a city was gone.
If he reached other places, everything in his path would surely be reduced to a sea of fire.
In that moment, they all shared one thought: Godzilla must die.
But was killing Godzilla really that simple?
Amid the inferno, Godzilla felt no fear, no hesitation.
Perhaps because he was no longer human, he felt little toward the concept of death.
Or perhaps because those people had perished so completely under his radiation beam that no bodies, not even ashes, remained.
Those few blasts hadn't even drained much energy.
Simply by absorbing air and water, he generated more than enough power through fusion. His reserves refilled quickly.
After crushing the island nation's forces, Godzilla did not advance. He simply stood still.
Even if he revealed terrifying power, humanity would never forgive him. In fact, it would only harden their resolve to kill him.
Unless, of course, their weapons proved completely useless against him. Only then would they be forced to stop—at least until they created something stronger.
That pause was all he needed to grow.
Godzilla could feel clearly: his current size was far from his limit.
He could grow larger still.
The race was on—would humanity build stronger weapons first, or would he evolve faster?
As Godzilla sank into stillness, the entire island nation descended into madness.
Society stood on the brink of collapse.
But ordinary people no longer mattered.
The few surviving leaders still clung to their old plan: use the coagulant against Godzilla.
The problem was no one would cooperate. Worse, they hadn't even produced enough of the coagulant.
In truth, they had nothing but a plan on paper.
Ironically, the cabinet members who had boarded helicopters were all obliterated by Godzilla's radiation beam.
When targeting the aircraft, he had deliberately increased the beam's range and intensity to wipe them all out.
Meanwhile, some officials still insisted they had found the answer—coagulant would be enough.
But it was already too late. The United States had decided to drop a nuclear bomb.
They gave the people still in the area half a day to evacuate. Once time was up, bombers would release their payload.
This time, there would be no second chances.
Compared to untested coagulant, they trusted the nuclear option more.
At a million degrees of heat, no life could survive—that much was certain.
Everyone in the city understood what that meant.
But once a nuke was unleashed, Japan—and even regions far beyond—would become uninhabitable for decades, perhaps centuries.
The consequences would spread far wider.
Yet no one could stop it.
"We were so close!"
"We had a way to fight Godzilla—why won't they even let us try!?"
Tears of regret streamed down their faces.
Some of the young still burned with passion, but passion solved nothing.
"It's not that they refused us a chance. It's that Godzilla gave us no chance. No one knows when he'll move again. Half a day is already merciful."
"He's right. The urgent task now is to evacuate as many survivors as possible. If Godzilla wakes early, who knows how many more will die."
Time trickled away.
As Godzilla waited in silence, his senses picked up movement—something was approaching in the skies above.
