Chapter 1 - Wakening up in a new world

M.C P.O.V

I woke up feeling really weak, as if I hadn't eaten in weeks, and my eyelids felt heavy. Just as I was debating whether to sleep in until my second alarm woke me up, I heard the sound of a large beast roaring. My eyes snapped open, and I shot up so fast that my head spun. After I got my bearings, I was shocked to see the beast that had woken me up—a large quadrupedal blue dragon with blood-red wings. Next to the dragon was a black two-headed creature with a bloody stump between its two heads.

After standing there in shock for what felt like an eternity, the blue dragon roared again. "Human!" the dragon's voice was so loud that I thought my eardrums would burst. Just as I was about to back into shock, the dragon gave me a look that told me she would attack if I did so. "Yes," I said. "I need you to take my eggs and go to safety," the dragon roared again, motioning towards the eggs with her head. I moved closer to the eggs and saw one large blue egg with white stripes, about the size of an exercise ball, and one smaller black egg with a blue wavy pattern, the size of a basketball. Just as I was about to ask her why, I got a good look at her and almost went into shock again.

Her wings looked like they had been split apart by a machine gun, with dozens of holes in them. There was a large gash across her body, with blood flowing out and joining the pool made by the black creature's blood. Her hind legs looked like they had been used as chew toys, with hundreds of questions running through my head. The only thing I could manage to say was, "What happened?" The dragon looked at me for a second before answering with a roar, "The fairies and those damn cloud dragons attacked us to take our territory." "I can't carry the eggs," my mouth was running on autopilot as more questions ran through my mind, trying to understand my current situation.

"Just use those damn spears you humans use to hold our kind," the dragon roared with her weakening voice. Spears? How could a stick hold a dragon, I thought, as my mouth, still running on autopilot, said, "I don't have any of those." The dragon looked even weaker as she roared again, "There should be some in those bags," she said, indicating deep into the cave. My legs followed my mouth's lead, running on autopilot, and I ventured into the deeper part of the cave, where I found a few backpacks. I pulled the closest bag to me and quickly emptied its contents. As everything fell out of the bag and formed a small hill, I was shocked because there was way more in the bag than it should have been able to hold with its size. I was also surprised to see a small red and white ball that fell out of the bag and rolled to my feet.

My mind stopped as I bent down to pick up the small white and red ball, and my thoughts went back to my childhood, to the countless hours I spent using these balls to catch creatures on a game screen. This was a pokeball. Just as I felt my mind about to fall into shock again, I heard the dragon roar once more. My mind snapped out of it, and I grabbed another ball and ran back to her. When I returned to the dragon and the eggs, she looked weaker. She didn't say anything. I wanted to say something, but my mouth wouldn't open, and I stood there watching as a mother said goodbye to her children. I just waited for her, and after some time, she looked at me. I knelt in front of the big egg first and pressed the ball against it. The egg turned into a red light and went into the ball. Then I knelt in front of the smaller egg and did the same.

The dragon then looked at me and roared again, "I will fly away from here to draw away the fairies. I will try to buy you as much time as I can. Take anything you can from the bags. There is an exit deeper into the cave." After saying that, she flew away without looking at me. I let out a breath I didn't even realize I was holding. Then I ran back into the cave, loaded the bags, and began emptying the others as well, stuffing as much as I could into the largest backpack. I also took one of the smaller ones and strapped it to the top of the larger one. Just as I finished, I heard the sound of bombs going off from where the dragon had flown off to. I steeled myself and made my way down the path to the exit.
