As we ate together, I began to ask Metal about more details about the island and the route to his father's clan. Metal said that he did not know much about the island because he is still a child, and his mother would not let him go out by himself until recently. He did say that humans came to the island but not often. Whenever they came, they either tried to catch some of the young Pokémon that live on the island, which ended with them being attacked by the older Pokémon regardless of species. Metal said his mother even attacked a human for trying to take a young fairy from the island. He said they do this because if they didn't and humans were able to take Pokémon easily, then more humans would come to the island and take away more Pokémon. But that changes when the humans show respect to the clan chiefs and ask for the right to catch Pokémon, in which case they are tested, and if they pass, they can ask younger members to join them.
There are also cases where young members go out to find a human themselves, but those cases are rare. "Why do Pokémon want to follow humans?" I asked. I mean, Pokémon are just as smart as normal humans, and they're stronger too. "It's different for every one of them, but it's mostly to become stronger. Fathers say that humans think differently from Pokémon and they always find ways to make them stronger faster than they can be on their own. Also, a human's aura and effect on Pokémon make growth quicker," Metal said. I nodded at that, not really getting it, but hopefully, I can ask Metal's father about it.
After finishing our food, I asked Metal to follow me as I made my way into a cave to outside. "Why did you want to come in here?" Metal asked me when we walked into the cave. Not answering him and making sure no Pokémon were around, I released the two eggs from the balls. I wanted to check the eggs last night, but not thinking it was safe, I chose to do so now. Metal looked at the eggs, then back to me, and then at the eggs. "Why do you have the Sky Chief eggs?" he asked me. Thinking back, I told him about how I awoke in front of the Sky Chief and not about the eggs. "The Sky Chief left the eggs to me, to protect them," I told him. He looked at the larger egg and then the smaller one. I asked him how he knew they were her eggs. "Mother was the one that protected the Sky Chief when she gave birth to them." I nodded, so he must have been there when they were born. It also sounds like his mother had a close relationship with the Sky Chief. I checked the eggs, making sure there was no damage, and then put them into their balls.
After that, we began on the track to Metal's father. "Metal, you were looking at the big egg a lot. Is there anything special about it?" I asked. I thought the egg was special when I saw how much bigger it was than the other. Metal nodded. "Mother and Sky Chief had talked about it when the egg was born, saying that if it hatched, the other tribes would attack, and they had to get rid of it," he said. "Why?" I asked. "Metal does not know, but Sky Chief said she won't kill her own child," he said. I then asked him how long ago that was. He says it was more than half a solar cycle ago. I asked how long that was in sun cycles. He said that 365 sun cycles equal 1 solar cycle. So, 6 months seemed long. Then I asked Metal how long it takes for eggs to hatch. Metal said he did not know, but that his father's tribe has a ceremony every year for all the eggs born that year, and that most eggs hatch shortly after that. But it can still be different based on the egg. Metal said that his egg did not hatch until another half solar cycle after the ceremony. I also found out that Metal is 2 years old this year and that he has an older sister who is a fighting dragon and a year older than him. His sister is only his father's child and not his mother's.
Her mother is a ground dragon who wanted to learn how to dance from Metal's father, but even after years, she was unable to learn. But she found Metal's father to be strong and had an egg for him. That egg was Metal's sister, and since she was a fighting dragon, she stayed with her and Metal's father. That was also something different from the games. Pokémon can be born any race of their parents, not only being their mothers. Metal's sister was different than other fighting dragons. She was smaller than other fighting dragons. That led to other young fighting dragons calling her weak, but she was fast, so fast that she was able to take down other fighting dragons her age and became the strongest young dragon fighting in the clan. Metal also said that made her the opposite of him. While she was fast and light, he's slow and heavy. He said his mother told him that he was even heavier than other dragons of his species and age. That's also a thing Pokémon don't hatch fully grown. They are like human toddlers when they hatch, then grow the fastest, and become fully grown in a few days, mostly being the bug types. The slower ones can take years, between 1-3 years, most of them being mostly dragons.
But that's only in the wild. Metal's father said they can grow faster with humans, but he's not sure by how much faster. As we talked and tracked down the mountain, the sun had set, and just as we were about to get to the frost, I stopped Metal. Metal looked at me to ask why I had stopped him. "It's dark, and going any farther would put us in the forest. It's best to make camp here and then head out in the morning," I said. Metal nodded. I asked him to dig us a small cave while I grabbed some wood for a fire. It took us both about 20 minutes to be done with our tasks. We sat in the cave together while staring at the fire and took some jerky out of the bag as Metal ate some more rock from the cave. Me and Metal ate and got ready for bed. I put my shirt into the small bag because the weather was hot today. After putting it away and getting the sleeping bag, I laid it out and went to sleep after putting out the fire. Metal had covered the entrance with boulders, leaving enough room so that air could circulate, and then went to sleep beside me.
