M.C P.O.V
As a comfortable silence fell over me and Metal as we made our way down the mountain, I was treated to one more breathtaking view of the forest. It was as amazing as it was during sunset, but instead of the warm golden light from then, the bright light of the sun was washing over the green leaves, giving them even more shine. As I was getting lost in my thoughts, Metal asked out of the blue, "What's your name?" That took me back for a second, not the question, but that I had not told Metal yet. "My name is," I was about to say but stopped. It felt wrong somehow to use my old-world name. I mean, that person was dead. I had their memories, but I'm not them.
I looked at Metal again. "I don't really have a name," I said to Metal. He looked at me strangely. "But everyone has a name," he said. I thought about giving myself a name, but it just didn't feel like the time. It's like it should be important. I mean, it's how people will know me in this world. And just picking it like that feels wrong. I just looked at Metal and said, "I did have a name, but it does not feel like it fits me anymore." Metal just looked at me more strangely. He shook his head. "You sound like a fairy. Mother says they treat their names like gold, rarely ever tell others." That sounded right to me for some reason. There were many stories on Earth about how someone's name had power over them. Just as I was about to respond to Metal, he said, "You shouldn't think that way. You may be a half-dragon, but you're still a dragon." Forgetting what I was about to say, I just asked Metal, "What do you mean half-dragon? I'm human!" I asked/yelled at him. Metal just kept looking at me even more strangely. "You are half human, half dragon," he said with 100% confidence, like it was the most obvious thing in the world. "What do you mean? I don't have any scales or claws," I said, wanting to know where he got the idea that I'm half-dragon. "But you have the aura of a dragon. I don't know what a human's aura is like, but there are parts of your aura that I can't tell, so that must be your human aura," he said.
"What does that mean? What is an aura?" I asked. "It means that you have the same aura as every dragon type. There are differences between individuals, but I'm not skilled enough to tell," he said. "But that doesn't make sense. I'm human. How could I have the aura of a dragon?" I asked. "Not sure. You are the first human Metal has talked to, but Father should be able to tell. He's very skilled in aura," he said. I nodded at that. I'm dissatisfied with the answer, but hopefully Metal's father will be able to clear up the situation. "But back to the name, Metal needs a name to call you," Metal said. I nodded. It would be awkward for him not to have any word for me. I thought of what to do about it, then Metal spoke up again. "Metal got it. Metal will call you brother." I was taken aback when he said that and just gave him a look of why. Picking up on my look, Metal continued, "Father says that men that fight life and death battles together are brothers." Okay, that should work until I have a name I can tell him. "Alright then," I said and pulled out two water bottles from the bags. Metal looked at me confused as I handed him one, then locked my arm with his. "This is a ceremony from my homeland. We both drink from the bottle together, and then we become brothers," I said. Metal looked into my eyes and nodded. We both drank from the bottles, emptying them.
After that, we continued the comfortable silence that had taken over us before we made our way down to the forest, and a question popped into my head. "Metal, how long will it take us to get to your father?" I asked. He answered, "It should take us about 8 sun cycles to get there." "8 sun cycles?" I asked. He nodded, not getting my question. "What is a sun cycle?" I asked more directly. "A sun cycle is when the sun goes down and comes up again," he answered. Okay, so a sun cycle should be more or less a day, so 8 days. That works. The water and food should last until then. Hopefully, Metal's dad will be able to spare some food and water. As we made our way down the mountain, we came across more wild Pokémon, mostly Geodude and Aron. They seemed scared of us and ran off when they saw me and Metal. I looked at Metal and asked, "Metal, why are they acting so scared of us?" "Mother hunts them for food," he said. That's what I thought. Metal said he was a Steel and Dragon type, so him and his mother hunting and eating Rock and Ground types make sense.
"Are they the only Pokémon that live here?" I asked. "No, the Sky Dragon cubs and Cloud Dragons used to live here. But the Cloud Dragons went and teamed up with the fairies to attack the Sky Dragons. The Sky Chief moved the cubs to other areas so that the Cloud Dragons don't attack them." So that's what happened. No wonder there aren't many Pokémon around this area. "Will we come across any Pokémon on the way to your father?" I asked. Metal nodded. "Yes, when we get closer to Father's clan, we'll come across the Grass and Bug types, but there are too many of them to list. The strongest of them is the Grass Drum Clan and the Red/Green Bug Clan," he said. I nodded, not having any idea what the Grass Drum Clan could be. Even the Red/Green Bug Clan doesn't sound like any Pokémon I know. As I continued to ask Metal about the island and the clans, I noticed that we had been walking for a few hours, so I asked Metal if he wanted to stop and eat. He nodded, and we sat down and began to eat. Just as I was about to get some food for me, he ran back the way we came. Not sure what to do, I sat there in shock. I was about to run after him when he came back carrying two large rocks. Understanding that he was used to eating rocks and Rock types, I didn't question it and just dug into the jerky.
We ate together, and Metal began to ask me about how I got onto this island. "Bro, how did you get on the island?" he asked. "Not sure. I woke up here in front of the Sky Chief," I said and told him about how I woke up in front of the dragon with no idea of how I got there and how I found him, leaving out the part of the new body and this world being a game. It felt wrong lying to him, but I felt that kind of information was not something you just dump on someone.
