Chapter 2 - Brave new world

M.C P.O.V

As I made my way to the exit of the cave, my mind finally caught up with the rest of my body and began to understand my situation. I had somehow woken up in another world, a world that was a game in my old life. The thought should have shocked me to the point where I should be in a state of shock and questioning everything, but my mind is calm. I still have questions, but it's like the questions are about a story I'm reading and not my life. It seems to be the same reason why I'm not shocked by the change in my body.

I'm not sure how I know, but I'm shorter than I should be; it's like my brain got pushed into a smaller body. I'm also lighter than I should be. I know this because my hand ran over my stomach, and it was flatter than it should be. As these thoughts ran through my head, I came across what should be the exit that the dragon told me about. The large hole in the side of the cave was my first look outside in this world, and it was beautiful. The sun had just begun to set, dyeing the forest in a golden light, making the green leaves look even more vibrant. It was the most amazing thing I had seen in my whole life; it felt like the world was welcoming me.

As I was about to get lost in my thoughts, I heard more explosions going off behind me, bringing me back to reality. I began to look around for a way down, finding a small path that looked to lead down the mountain. I began to jog down the path, hoping not to run into any of the fairies or could dragons that the mother dragon told me about. As I was running down the path, making sure to hug the wall to keep as much distance between me and the cliff, I noticed that I was in much better shape than I was in my old world. Counting the time I started running from the cave, I had been running at full speed for 20 minutes.

The thought passed from my mind as I came to a stop and threw myself behind a large rock, trying to hide my body. I didn't know why my body did that and began to question myself when I saw two massive blue birds with the purest white wings fly past me. My heart almost jumped out of my chest when they flew past me. It took a second for my heart to calm down, and then I began to run down the path again. More thoughts began to run through my head again: how did my body move before my mind, or how did it know the birds were there before my eyes saw them? With those thoughts pushed to the back of my mind, I ran to keep myself focused on what was ahead of me. It took me about an hour of nonstop running before my body started feeling heavy and short of breath. My stomach also started growling, slowing me down. My eyes scanned the area ahead of me, finding a cave.

I stopped in front of the cave, looking back at the sky and seeing that the sun was almost fully set. Knowing from my time in the Boy Scouts that moving during the dark is a bad idea, I pulled out a flashlight from the smaller bag and began to make my way into the cave with caution. As I slowly made my way into the cave, it began to become eerily quiet, the small sounds of outside fading the deeper I went. Just as I began to question myself and go back, I heard the voice of a child, "HELP!" Any thought I had of going back went out of my mind as my feet began running towards the voice. It only took me about a minute to find the source of the voice. I came to the most bizarre sight I had ever seen: a large pink dog biting down on a tall bipedal dinosaur whose body looked like it was made of steel. It roared at me when our eyes met, "Help!" it yelled in its childlike voice.

The pink dog looked at me, a growl escaping my throat as my eyes locked onto its, and I was taken over by bloodlust. My body moved faster than ever before as I dropped the bags to the ground and grabbed a hunting knife from the top bag. I charged at the pink dog with a roar, closing in on it and jumping towards it. The pink dog let the metal dinosaur go as I dodged my knife; the child dinosaur, after being freed, got behind me. "Thank you," it roared towards me. I nodded to him and kept my eyes locked onto the pink dog. "Can you fight?" I asked the dinosaur and started to think of what to do. "I can," he said. I nodded to him again and then charged towards our shared foe. As I was closing in on the dog, it also charged towards me. As we got closer, the dog's claws began to glow and elongate.

I dodged the first slash by lowering my body into a crawl position as his second attack came from the left, which I deflected with my knife. Using my position to put my weight onto the arm, I launched a kick into its face. My kick landed, and I used its face as a foothold and launched myself backward. My kick did no damage to it as it barked at me and charged at me. Just as I was about to charge at it again, "get down," I heard from behind me. I did as told and hit the ground. Less than a second after I hit the ground, a glowing yellow orb flew past me and hit the dog square in the face. I got up and looked to my metal battle partner and got what I assumed was a nod; it was hard to tell with his neck and head being integrated. Taking the hint, I got up and charged at the dog, seeing me charging, the dog's mouth started glowing red with fire and charged at me. As we closed in on each other, the dog's flaming mouth began to bite towards me.

Jumping to the left in order to dodge the flaming bite, I stabbed my knife into the eye of the pink beast. As my knife passed into the eye, I twisted and pulled it out and jumped back, pulling the eye out of the socket as I did so. The beast cried out in pain and anger, and its one good eye locked onto me as another orb of yellow blasted into the side of the beast. This one was larger than the one that came before, exploding into bright yellow light, causing me to have to cover my eyes. After the light faded and I was able to open my eyes again, I saw the burned corpse. The pink body was now half black and the other half a bloody mess. I was glad that I hadn't eaten today because I would have thrown up. I turned to look at my metal partner, shocked to see that he had collapsed.
