Chapter 1 - chapter - 1

Ava Grant walked down the road, her eyes fixed on the pavement as she navigated through her daily routine. The loneliness was suffocating, a constant companion she'd grown accustomed to. As an introvert, Ava preferred keeping to herself, but sometimes the silence felt like a scream. She wore baggy clothes that swallowed her whole, making her almost invisible to the world around her.

As she walked, Ava's mind wandered to her favorite fictional books and the characters that inhabited them. She loved getting lost in their stories and daydreaming about her own fictional boyfriend, a perfect, charming, and handsome man who would sweep her off her feet. The thought brought a faint smile to her lips, a brief respite from the monotony of her day.

As she approached the signal, Ava noticed a new bookstore that had opened up. The sign above the door read "Moonlit Pages," and the window display showcased a tantalizing array of books. Ava's curiosity was piqued, and she felt a spark of excitement. She hadn't been to a bookstore in ages, and the prospect of getting lost in the shelves was too enticing to resist.

Ava pushed open the door, and the scent of new books and old paper wafted out, transporting her to a different world. The store was quiet, with only a few shelves and displays. Ava's eyes adjusted to the dim lighting, and she spotted an old woman sitting behind the counter, reading a book.

The old woman looked up, and their eyes met. "Welcome, little girl. What kind of book are you looking for?" she asked, her voice warm and gentle.

Ava hesitated, her shyness getting the better of her. "I'm just browsing," she mumbled, her eyes darting around the store.

The old woman nodded kindly and returned to her book, leaving Ava to explore the shelves. As she wandered deeper into the store, Ava's fingers trailed over the spines of the books, feeling the texture of the covers. Her eyes landed on a shelf covered with a faded red silk cloth, and her curiosity was piqued.

She approached the shelf cautiously, her heart beating slightly faster. What could be hiding beneath the silk? She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should ask the old woman's permission. But her curiosity won out. She gently pulled back the cloth, revealing a single book on a shelf.

Ava's breath caught as she gazed at the book. It was ancient, with strange, glowing copper symbols etched into the cover. She felt a shiver run down her spine as she reached out and picked it up. The cover was worn, but the pages were pristine, and a faint, metallic warmth radiated from the binding. Ava's curiosity was hooked, and she knew she had to buy it.

As she walked towards the counter, the old woman looked up and smiled kindly. "Did you find something to your liking?" she asked.

Ava nodded, feeling a bit more confident. "How much is this book?" she asked, placing the book on the counter.

The old woman's expression turned knowing, almost somber, and she named a price that made Ava's eyes widen.

Ava blinked several times, unsure if she had heard correctly. "Forty-seven dollars?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

The old woman repeated the price, and Ava's face fell. It was expensive, and she wasn't sure if she could afford it. But she couldn't bring herself to put it back. She handed over her entire pocket money, trying to ignore the feeling of unease in her stomach.

As she left the store, the book clutched tightly in her hand, Ava felt a sense of excitement and trepidation. What secrets lay hidden within the pages of this mysterious book?

Ava hurried home with the book, the fading light of day urging her to quicken her pace. As she entered her empty house, the silence enveloped her like a shroud. She even noticed the echo of her own footsteps on the wooden floor as she headed to the kitchen. Her parents, both doctors, were often away on shifts, leaving Ava to her own devices.

She changed into comfortable clothes and made herself a simple meal in the kitchen, setting the plate down on a table that felt too large for one. The evening drifted by in a haze of TV and quiet thoughts. As night fell, Ava settled into her bed, the book beside her a tantalizing presence.

As she drifted off to sleep, her gaze lingered on the book. Curiosity got the better of her, and she decided to read a few pages before bed. Tomorrow was the weekend, after all. Ava snuggled into her pillows, the book's cover creaking as she opened it. Her fingers traced the embossed letters, and she read the title: "Supernatural's." A warning was scribbled beneath in fading script, but Ava ignored it, her attention already captured by the sheer energy emanating from the paper.

Time lost all meaning as she read. She cursed characters, laughed maniacally, and cheered on her favorites. The hours flew by unnoticed, and before she knew it, morning light was creeping into the room. As her eyes grew heavy, Ava tried to fight the sleep, but it was no use. She closed her eyes, the book still clutched in her hands, a faint, tingling sensation remaining on her skin.

When Ava wakes up, will the fictional reality she was so engrossed in have crossed the boundary into her life, and if so, which characters will be waiting?
