The Marvel Universe.
Inside the Mutant Academy, tension hung thick in the air, pressing down on the room like an invisible weight. Liam Hayes lay on the bed, his entire body burning with fever as sweat soaked through his clothes and sheets. His breathing came uneven and shallow, as though something unseen was bearing down on his chest, making every inhale a struggle.
The drowsiness gnawed at him relentlessly, dragging his consciousness into a heavy, suffocating haze. It wasn't just exhaustion—it felt like something deeper, something invasive, stirring beneath his skin. Every nerve in his body screamed in discomfort, yet he couldn't fully wake, trapped between awareness and darkness.
Beside the bed, Professor Charles Xavier sat in his wheelchair, dressed in his usual black suit. His calm demeanor was marred by a faint frown as he reached out and pressed a hand gently against Liam's forehead. The heat radiating from the young man's skin was unmistakable, and it only deepened the concern in his expression.
"Professor," Scott Summers—Cyclops—spoke from behind him, his red-lensed visor reflecting the dim light of the room. His tone carried a mix of curiosity and unease. "Is this… the awakening of his X-gene?"
Charles withdrew his hand slowly and gave a measured nod. "Yes," he said, his voice steady but thoughtful. "And more than that… something unusual is happening. I cannot access his mind."
Cyclops stiffened slightly. "You mean… your telepathy isn't working on him?"
Behind him, Ororo Monroe—Storm—folded her arms, her sharp eyes narrowing as she processed the implication. Both of them knew exactly what that meant. Professor Xavier's telepathic abilities were among the most powerful in the world. For someone to block him completely… that was no small matter.
Charles shook his head, his gaze returning to Liam with a hint of intrigue. "Not at all. It's as if there's a barrier—something innate, something I cannot bypass. I can't even begin to teach or guide whatever ability he possesses."
Cyclops and Storm exchanged a glance, the shock between them unmistakable. That kind of limitation wasn't just rare—it was almost unheard of.
"And yet," Charles continued, his tone shifting slightly, now carrying a trace of anticipation, "that may be precisely what makes this so extraordinary. His power… whatever it is… holds immense potential. It may even surpass both mine and Erik's."
That statement landed heavily.
Cyclops exhaled slowly, trying to steady himself, while Storm's expression hardened with disbelief. The weight of those words was impossible to ignore. Erik—Magneto—stood as one of the most powerful mutants alive, rivaled only by Charles himself. To suggest that this unconscious boy could one day exceed both of them…
"Professor," Storm said quietly, though her voice betrayed her astonishment, "are you saying he could be… a Level Five mutant?"
Charles gave a small, deliberate nod. "That is my assessment. If he grows without interference, without losing control… he may become a guiding force for mutantkind. Perhaps even fulfill Erik's long-held vision."
For years, Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr had walked different paths toward the same goal: securing a future where mutants could exist openly in the world. Charles believed in coexistence, in guiding mutants to live alongside humanity peacefully. His school stood as a sanctuary and training ground, helping young mutants understand and control their abilities.
Erik, on the other hand, believed in dominance through strength. The Brotherhood of Mutants he led sought to impose their will, silencing opposition through force if necessary.
Two ideologies. Two methods. But one shared dream.
Cyclops and Storm stood in silence, absorbing the implications. Neither of them had expected Charles to place such staggering expectations on Liam. Their gazes drifted back to the young man lying on the bed, now seeing him in an entirely different light.
Meanwhile, inside Liam's mind, something else was unfolding entirely.
A translucent progress bar hovered in the darkness of his consciousness, flickering faintly as it advanced in steady increments.
10%… 11%… 12%…
Liam Hayes was not originally from this world.
Half a year ago, he had arrived in this dangerous version of reality—a Marvel Universe filled with gods, monsters, and beings capable of wiping out entire civilizations without effort. Back then, he had been nothing more than a drifting soul, on the verge of becoming homeless, struggling to survive in a world that could crush ordinary people without even noticing.
Then Charles Xavier had found him.
The revelation had been shocking at first. A mutant? It sounded absurd, something straight out of fiction. But the reality of this world made it easier to accept. If anything, being a mutant was far better than remaining an ordinary human in a place like this.
Power meant survival.
And if he could awaken some kind of overwhelming ability, then maybe—just maybe—he wouldn't just survive. He could stand his ground.
But six months had passed, and nothing had happened.
No signs of mutation. No emerging abilities. Nothing.
At one point, Liam had even started to doubt whether he truly had any power at all.
And yet, today, everything changed.
It wasn't the awakening of his X-gene.
It was something else entirely.
[Ding! The god-level sign-in system is fully charged. Binding with host…]
[Ding! System binding successful.]
The mechanical voice echoed clearly within his mind, cutting through the haze like a sharp blade. Liam's fading consciousness snapped to attention, and a surge of excitement rushed through him.
Of course.
A system.
If transmigration was real, then this was practically guaranteed.
Maybe it was late—but it had arrived.
"System," Liam thought urgently, his mind racing despite the heaviness dragging at him. "Explain your functions."
[Ding! The god-level sign-in system allows the host to sign in once per day. Signing in at special locations grants special rewards. Signing in on specific individuals may also grant rewards, but carries a chance of failure. Unused sign-in attempts do not accumulate.]
The explanation was concise, but Liam immediately began breaking it down.
First, a daily sign-in—simple enough, but no stacking. Miss a day, and it's gone.
Second, location-based bonuses. Special places could yield better rewards, though how "special" was defined remained unclear.
Third, character-based sign-ins. Potentially powerful, but risky.
His thoughts sharpened as realization hit.
He was in the Mutant Academy.
If that didn't qualify as a special location, what did?
A flicker of anticipation surged through him.
"System," he said without hesitation, "sign in."
[Ding! Congratulations. First sign-in successful. Reward obtained: Super Ability—Vector Manipulation.]
Liam's eyes snapped open within his mindscape, shock flooding through him.
Vector manipulation.
He knew exactly what that meant.
That ability wasn't just powerful—it was absurd. The capability to control the direction and magnitude of forces, to manipulate kinetic, thermal, and electrical energy at will. Anything that touched his body could be redirected, nullified, or reflected entirely.
It was the kind of power that broke rules.
"System," Liam pressed, unable to contain his urgency, "how do I use it?"
[Ding! Would you like to integrate the super ability 'Vector Manipulation'?]
"Yes," he answered instantly.
There was no hesitation.
[Ding! Warning: Initial integration may cause adverse reactions. Please remain calm.]
The moment the message ended, a violent wave of dizziness crashed over him. His consciousness spun, his senses collapsing inward as if the world itself had been pulled out from under him.
Then everything went black.
If he had been fully aware, he would have cursed the system for not giving him even a second to prepare.
But as his body went limp and his condition worsened, the people outside could only watch as the situation unfolded—completely unaware that, within him, something extraordinary had already begun.
