Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: I Died

### Chapter 1: I Died

Konoha Year 49.

Kyouko's expression was grim.

He was probably going to die.

He looked at the mission scroll in his hand repeatedly. No matter how he looked at it, the content remained the same: Reinforce Team Minato. The location: Kannabi Bridge!

He was actually a transmigrator. Ever since he arrived and regained his past memories, Kyouko had been cautiously lying low, just wanting to live a little longer.

He didn't expect to receive this "suicide" mission.

How was he supposed to complete a mission on a battlefield teeming with such intense vitality and danger?

The Battle of Kannabi Bridge was, for him, a situation with a ninety percent chance of death.

From start to finish, this mission reeked of strangeness.

The enemy configuration consisted of three battle-hardened Elite Jonin, one of whom was the Iwagakure Jonin, Kakkō, known as a top-tier powerhouse.

The Konoha side consisted of a newly promoted Jonin, Kakashi, along with Chunin Rin Nohara and Obito.

During this process, Minato Namikaze would need to leave to support the front lines, meaning the subsequent battle would be one Jonin leading two Chunin against three Elite Jonin.

Is this... reasonable?

Kyouko going there would only add one more piece of cannon fodder.

Even Kakashi, who developed an S-rank Lightning Release ninjutsu at age twelve, couldn't handle the depths of these waters.

And right now, Kyouko was merely a Genin.

As everyone knows, the gap between people is sometimes wider than the gap between species.

When some Genin fight, the aftershocks can shatter the Valley of the End.

Then there are Genin like him, who are just responsible for filling the lines as cannon fodder on the battlefield.

"What's wrong, Kyouko?"

Rin Nohara asked with a puzzled look.

Her short black hair swayed as she spoke, a few strands brushing against the purple markings on her cheeks.

Why did Kyouko look so unwell after receiving the mission to reinforce them?

This mission was being led by the Shinobi World's fastest, Teacher Minato; it should be a guaranteed success.

"No, it's nothing."

Kyouko shook his head.

He looked up at the girl with the lovely face. She wore a light pink skirt tied at her waist, a black top, and tight over-the-knee socks.

"Don't worry. I will protect everyone on this mission."

A blond young man walked over with a gentle smile.

"I believe in Lord Minato."

Kyouko nodded.

Could he say he didn't?

Right now, Minato Namikaze was at the height of his power. Even ninja from other villages were ordered to abandon their missions immediately upon seeing him, without facing any punishment.

But even the man known as the Yellow Flash of the Leaf, who spent his life being faster than everyone else, ultimately couldn't catch up to anything and was always one step behind disaster.

"Exactly. With Teacher Minato here, this mission will definitely be fine."

Obito walked over with his hands behind his head, standing next to Rin with a goofy grin.

Behind them stood a white-haired boy wearing a black mask, his indifferent eyes seeming uninterested in everything.

Kyouko quietly watched this scene of a benevolent teacher and filial students.

It was after this battle that Rin Nohara would be captured by Kirigakure ninja, leading to Obito's corruption. Obito would then stage a performance of "filial piety" in Konoha, personally gifting Naruto a present of explosive tags.

So, how was he supposed to survive now?

The joys and sorrows of humans are not connected; Kyouko only found them noisy.

After exchanging a few pleasantries with the others, Kyouko left the area.

Just as he was pondering whether to write a will in advance and plan out his inheritance, a voice suddenly sounded in his mind.

[Testament has been opened.]

[Testament: Using you as a time anchor, countless possibilities will extend from the future.]

[Please check your Will and Cremation Urn, and bury the legacy properly.]

An electronic synthetic female voice echoed in Kyouko's mind.

"Wait, I die in the future?"

Kyouko couldn't hold back his shock.

He knew he shouldn't go to Kannabi Bridge, and now they were even sending him a cremation urn!

"Cremation Urn?"

Just as Kyouko wanted to ask where the urn was, a phantom image of a cremation urn suddenly appeared in his mind.

It bore the Konoha symbol, which had been crossed out with a horizontal line.

Kyouko felt something was wrong.

Wait... doesn't that look like a Missing-nin symbol?

"When you hear this sentence, I am already dead. What follows should be my last words..."

Suddenly, a familiar voice rang out.

Startled, Kyouko discovered that a phantom spirit had floated out of the cremation urn in his mind.

The spirit looked seventy to eighty percent like him, appearing as a middle-aged version of himself.

His face was weathered, and on his forehead, he wore a ninja headband with a horizontal scratch across it.

A Missing-nin!

"You are... the dead me? And you defected?"

Kyouko thought of the description on the Testament.

Using him as a time anchor, extending countless possibilities from the future.

Becoming a Missing-nin was one of his future possibilities?

"More or less. As you can see, I am just a Missing-nin now."

The Missing-nin Kyouko pointed to the ninja headband on his head.

"When did I... no, when did you defect?"

Kyouko asked.

This was only one of infinite future possibilities; it didn't mean he would definitely defect.

"A few years after this war ended."

The Missing-nin Kyouko spoke with a sigh.

"Why?"

Kyouko asked.

"Naturally, to go further. In the Ninja World, clans rely on bloodlines, and commoners rely on mutation. I could only become stronger by joining Orochimaru."

The Missing-nin Kyouko said.

Faced with these words, Kyouko fell silent.

That was very true to the Ninja World.

They say gold will always shine, but unfortunately, as a civilian ninja, he was just a piece of scrap iron.

Everyone knows that in the Ninja World, powerful strength is only transmitted through maternity, inheritance, and blood.

If you have none of that, you can only pray for good luck and burn more incense for the Sage of Six Paths.

"Then how did you die?"

Kyouko asked the question he cared about most.

"Blown up by explosive tags."

"..."

A very hasty death.

Kyouko estimated that quite a few people died that way.

"At least it proves I survived the Kannabi Bridge mission. Can you give me some intelligence?"

Kyouko said.

Although he had foreknowledge of the plot, any butterfly effect could bring about a different development.

"No, I never received this mission back then."

The Missing-nin Kyouko said.

"I spent most of my time in logistics."

"?"

Kyouko's eyes widened.

Didn't that mean his future was like the people in the "Limited Tsukuyomi"—not only would he change, but other people or events would change too?

Could an "Anbu Kyouko" or "Hokage Kyouko" appear in the future?

"Then what is your legacy?"

Kyouko remembered that the cremation urn came with a legacy, and he was curious about what was inside.

Was it just a spirit?

"As for the legacy... it's probably me. I can still exist for a period of time and can teach you some ninjutsu."

The Missing-nin Kyouko spoke.

"However, I probably won't last too long. I also had the 'Testament,' but I awakened it too late. After I died, I was packaged and sent to another version of myself."

The Missing-nin Kyouko explained.

He described his understanding of the "Testament" to Kyouko: it seemed that by fulfilling the deceased's dying wish, one could obtain a certain boost from the dead.
