Chapter 1 - The Arrival (Prologue)

It started ten years ago, that was about two hundred years since the wasteland was created, and the world certainly had seen better days.

The radiation had long caused severe mutation in plant and wildlife, but nothing too severe all things considered, but when compared to outside the wasteland, there certainly are way more predators.

Even mice started hunting, albeit only in groups, but still, impressive, some people that were born after the wasteland was made also developed more predatory adaptations, like sharp teeth or claws.

But nobody expected that someone could completely destroy the social hiearchy that had developed back then, a whole hundred and ninety years completely down the drain at the hand of the Devil.

Inside a bar there was the usual scene, people drinking, either coffee or alcohol, playing cards, but also a few people mugging others without even anyone batting an eye.

That's how it always was there, some takes somethings, then it's stolen, then another steals it again, then it's used or lost, repeat.

However that day something was clearly wrong, everyone could feel an odd sense of dread wash over them, and that culminated in the door opening and a girl wearing a mask and black jacket came in.

Everyone turned to look at her, they had never seen someone that looked like that, so it was easy to figure out that she was at least from another side of the wasteland, and that was enough for people to try and be sly.

"Hey there girlie~" A guy said while approaching her from the right, "How about we get away from this slum and I show you a good time?" He suggested with a smirk.

The girl glanced at him with the side of her eye, and extended her left hand at him, "Sure why not?" She said, seemingly agreeing.

This made the guy smile, and he grabbed her hand, but instead of feeling warmth, he felt the cold bite of metal, "Wha-" He tried saying, but got interrupted as the girl yanked him, making his hand land on the counter, and then she slammed the side of her other hand into his temple with enough strength that it left an imprint.

After pushing the unconscious idiot to the floor, the silence got so thick you could hear a pin drop, "So what do you have that's tasty to drink?" The girl asked the bartender, who snapped out of his stupor.

"Oh right! Ahem! If you want flavor than I reccomend a Bloody Mary." The bartender managed to say, getting a thumbs up from the girl, prompting him to get to work.

As the drink was being made, another guy approached the girl, but he had less 'kill you and sell your organs' intentions, "Well that was a welcome change of pace, usually no one stands up like that." He commented, taking a seat beside the masked girl, "So what's your name?" He asked curiously.

The girl gave him a glance, although significantly less cold than the previous one, "...It's Reveil." She replied simply and then looked back at the bartender.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Sort, but people call me Chess." The guy introduced himself, prompting Reveil to get a good look at him, seeing he was wearing a mask sort of like her, but white, and also wore what looked to be military clothes.

Once she had a full look over, Reveil narrowed her eyes at him, "You're being awfully friendly... What's your game?" She asked suspiciously.

Sort smiled under his mask and slipped a paper to Reveil, "I run a corporation that deals in... contracts, lets call them that, and you seem to fit the bill." He explained, and then pulled out a wad of cash, "And don't worry, the pay is quite high~" He added, hoping to sweeten the deal.

This new information actually peaked Reveils interest, so when her Bloody Mary arrived, she took a moment to look the paper over, and once she was sure nothing was up, she dipped her finger in the blood and wrote down her signature.

"Got style!" Sort complimented, holding out a hand for a handshake, which was returned, a bit hesitant, but still, "Hope we'll have a long working relationship." He told her, grabbing an empty shot glass and clinking it against hers in a sign of good will.

Later That Day.

To make things clearer, Sort brought Reveil to a teleport pad and typed a specific code on it, "Remember this code, it's the only thing that'll give you access to the headquarters." He told Reveil.

After pressing send, the two were teleported into the remains of a giant ship that still had water in them, "I wasn't expecting this when you said headquarters." Reveil told Sort, who just laughed in response.

"What can I say?" He asked sarcastically, "Who would in their right mind thing the headquarters of an organization would be a place like this?" He mused.

Reveil rolled her eyes at the good point that was made, but she didn't mind it much, "So are you going to give me a job already or what?" She questioned.

Sort raised a finger, but then lowered it as he said "No..." and that made Reveil frown slightly, "First! You need to meet the rest of your unit! Otherwise how would you call for support if needed?" He questioned, making Reveils eyes relax a bit.

A while of navigating the corridors later, they got to a room that had the label 'Breaker Corps', "This is where they are, get yourself aquaintad, I'll get you the equipment." Sort instructed before leaving.

Left alone, Reveil looked at the door before knocking on it, "Come in!" Came in response, and she entered the room, ready to face this new business venture.
