It was the middle of the night.
"Ding! Ding!"
The phone rang suddenly and persistently, with an air that it wouldn't give up until its purpose was achieved.
"Mmm…"
An arm struggled out from under the covers, grabbed the phone, flipped it open, and precisely pressed the call button.
"You have ten seconds to give me a reason, or I promise, your car will never get another part from me," the muffled voice from under the quilt said. Feeling this threat was a bit weak, he added, "And don't even think about me helping you with any more modifications."
It still didn't sound very threatening.
But to anyone who knew him and had come to him for car modifications or repairs, this was a very powerful threat.
"It's Dom," the bald, muscular man on the other end said with a broad, cheerful grin. "Hey, Morin, I need your help."
"Damn it, Dom, don't you know what time it is?" The man, called Morin, struggled to sit up. It was tough—not because the two girls lying on him were heavy, but because as a gentleman on the surface, he had to be considerate… at least with his slow and gentle movements.
"I know, I know, but it's urgent," Dominic Toretto said, sitting on a table. "I need you to help me with some cars."
"Then you remember my rules," Morin said, finally freeing himself from the two girls who were clinging to him like octopuses. He let out a sigh of relief and shook his head. "I trust you remember?"
"Of course, Morin, how could I forget? What's that saying of yours… 'Good fences make good neighbors'?" Toretto said in a poor, almost incomprehensible accent, quoting one of Morin's "creeds." "Don't worry, this time, it's a big job."
"How big?" Morin jumped out of bed, put on a tank top, and went to the living room couch. "Have you decided to rob a bank?"
"No, of course not," Toretto said. "Banks are too low-end. Besides, this time, we're robbing the rich to give to the poor."
"Sounds good," Morin poured himself a glass of clear, fragrant, historically rich, and profoundly plain… water. He lay back on the couch. "But this robbing the rich and giving to the poor… the poor you're giving to aren't yourselves, are they?"
"Hahahahaha!" Toretto laughed loudly on the other end of the phone, then his voice became serious. "Seriously, my sister's pregnant."
"What?" Morin's eyes widened. "Are you sure?"
"Of course. Would I lie about something like this?" Toretto asked.
"Damn it," Morin stood up. "I'm warning you, Dom, I never touched your sister!"
"What?" Toretto was stunned, then immediately became furious. "F**k, I know it wasn't you!"
"Good," Morin sighed with relief and lay back down on the couch. "Even though I originally decided to be your brother because of your sister, I'm a man of my word."
"Really? Didn't you say it was because you thought I was a great driver?" Toretto mercilessly exposed Morin's reason, which seemed to change every time.
"Alright, let's just say that was also one of the reasons," Morin said nonchalantly. His thick skin and suave charm meant he didn't have to worry about such small slips. "So, is it that young punk… Brian O'Conner?"
"Yeah," Toretto said. "So…"
"I get it. You want to settle down for good and pull one last job for some living expenses?" Morin interrupted.
"Yes," Toretto nodded.
"Actually, if it's just about money, you know, I can…" Morin offered.
"Morin, you know me," Toretto interrupted. "I'm not at that point yet."
"Alright, when?" Morin shrugged, giving up his plan, and asked, "And the location and your target?"
"Rio," Toretto said. "Soon, we're going to rob Hernan Reyes, Rio's biggest drug lord. One hundred million in cash!"
"That really is a big one," Morin said, shaking his head in amazement. "You're planning to take on the local snake there…"
"Isn't that my style?" Toretto laughed.
"Yeah, I guess it is," Morin said. "The best?"
"Of course, the best," Toretto said. "Money is no object this time!"
"Interesting. You're already talking big even before you have the money," Morin said, shaking his glass of water with the practiced hand of a connoisseur. "But, you know I rarely take jobs outside of the city. If I have to travel…"
"I know, I know," Toretto said, helplessly stroking his bald head. He was obviously frustrated thinking about one of Morin's "rules." "I've also brought in some help this time. She has a great body and looks, and as far as I know, she doesn't have a steady boyfriend. Plus, the beaches in Rio are a great place."
"Perfect," Morin whistled. The image of a woman with long legs, a slender waist, and a pretty face came to his mind. "Give me the address. I'll be there in… hmm… two days with what you need. By the way, how many cars do you want?"
"Four? Alright, wait for my good news!"
Hanging up the phone, Morin tossed the Nokia aside, drank the glass of water in one gulp, then lay back on the couch, closing his eyes and thinking.
"Finally…" Morin "looked" at the interface in his mind and sighed. "It's finally time to open up a new world?"
On the interface, a full-body 3D projection of Morin, with his perfect physique and handsome face, was spinning. Above the projection was a title.
[Auto Mechanic • Intermediate (990/1000)]
Title Bonuses:
[Physical] • 110 (As an auto mechanic, you need a strong body to move cars for repairs! Don't ask me why you need to move cars instead of using a jack!)
[Intelligence] • 110 (As an auto mechanic, you need a good brain to know how to make cars achieve the performance you or your client wants!)
[Automotive Master] (You can quickly understand all the conditions of a car.)
[Dimensional Wrench] (As an auto mechanic, isn't it normal to carry a wrench with you? What about it disappearing and appearing at your will? What does that matter? Didn't you see it's a dimensional wrench?)
[Intermediate Driving Skills] (That's right, you didn't read it wrong. You might be wondering why an auto mechanic would get driving skills. Haha, I'll tell you why… I won't tell you!)
Morin ignored the slightly neurotic descriptions and focused on his projection. With a thought, another interface popped up from his projection.
[Morin:
Number of Job Titles Held: 1
Opportunities to Open a New World: 0 (You get one chance by leveling a job title to Advanced or higher.)
Current World: Fast & Furious series
[Physical]: 191
[Intelligence]: 193
[Magic]: 100
"Hmm…" Morin looked at the interface in his mind. "I've been in this Fast & Furious world for a few years, and now that the plot for the fifth movie is starting, I can finally open up a new world soon…"
