Chapter 1 - Episode 1: The stranger from my dream

Here I am, stuck in a battle between that huge whimsical monster and the three-eyed snake. What am I doing here again? Where is it going this time? I just have to fight for my life and die without any of my parents knowing about it. No big deal.

Suddenly, I saw a very cute guy approaching me, pulling up a sword and fighting so professionally that my eyes hurt from his shine. He had a frown on his face. Why? Did I do something? I stared long into his eyes as I felt something weird. Suddenly, I started hearing someone screaming:

"Emily! Emily!"

Oops! Seems like I'm late to school again. I tried talking about my dream, but mom interrupted again:

"Emily! This is the second day of your senior year and you still slack off and drown in your own fantasies! Do something useful for once and focus on your studies."

You know, for most, studies were important so they could show off their grades to other students. As for me, it was only my mom's opinion that actually mattered, which is why I focus in class—so I can slack off later, no?

All the girls in school would group themselves and create gossip rooms. They'd talk about their dates, their girl dramas, their family issues. It was different for me. How should I fit in? The handsome boys had awful personalities and nothing was pleasing other than the outside. If only the guy from my frequent dreams showed up one day from a mystical world. But Emily, wake up from your fantasies. Mom must be right…

I arrived at school. Another day I wasn't looking forward to. Here I am, walking towards the school locker with my best friend Vera. Vera's just so perfect and nice. Only, our bond was actually real—or at least I assume. I am that genuine person who actually works on myself to fill up whatever I lack. However, my mom thinks I'm working to impress someone, so she always tells me:

"Be aware of boys so that you don't become like me."

There was no flaw in her except her low opinion of herself and her protectiveness. But I couldn't tell her that, obviously. I was the good girl, who sat quietly and observed. At school, I was reserved, seen as timid by some popular freaks, but to my friends and family, I brought real joy and liked to joke all the time.

I opened my locker while the famous Veronica approached me. She put up a hypocritical smile on her face as she patted my shoulder:

"My dear Emily, how's your second day at school? I'm sure you had trouble living up to others' expectations. We will always look after you no matter what, so feel free to tell us any of your troubles."

The other girls from her crew elbowed her and started with their dumb comments:

"Veronica, stop your kind heart from approaching freaks! Did you forget how she threw water on you back in middle school?"

That other girl bumped into me and threw me onto the floor. I pulled myself up angrily, preparing to throw fists, as Vera stopped me once again.

"Don't bother with them. Let's not interfere and create a mess."

"They messed with me first," I frowned. Life is quite unfair sometimes. Just because of Veronica's strong followers and good acting skills, she got to rule the school after ruining my life. Here I am, on the floor, cleaning the dirt from my school uniform while Drake approached and offered me his hand to help me up.

Does he think I'll just let him off if he plays all cool and nice? Drake used to be my best friend, until he turned a blind eye when things got rough for me and went to fit in with the cool kids. I brushed off his hand and looked right into his eyes.

"I don't need your help, but really—thanks for remembering."

But to myself, I knew it was too late for him to make it up. I walked away as Vera stared right into him, fangirling over "the most handsome boy in school." Ha! He didn't even come close to the guy in my dream! How did I even use to like him back then!?

She then came to her senses and followed me to our class. While walking away, I felt dizzy. Something was obviously weird. I would feel as if my body was here but my soul was elsewhere. Again—let's walk out of fantasies, I thought. Must've drowned myself in too many books lately.

Feeling kinda guilty about the way I pushed Drake away, I walked back to apologize for my behavior, but damn—my heart doesn't deserve this! I just saw him joking with his friends about me, as if he didn't feel bad about all the mess he caused.

I went to the restroom to wash my face. I closed my eyes again and pictured the same mysterious boy I had been seeing so often in my dreams. I tried to approach him, but he just vanished into the air as Vera shook me.

"EMILY! What happened? You seem strange today!? Are you okay?"

I opened my eyes. Am I daydreaming about some random guy now? I just nodded briefly, which made her more worried, insisting on taking me to the nurse. I thought that feeling was just temporary, but I suddenly started to see the weather getting dark. My friend's eyes were opening so wide it was frightening. Her voice started to lower as if she had transformed into another creature.

Am I drugged? Am I seeing things?

I washed my face again, and there was Vera—as normal as she could be—standing and looking at me with a worried look. I just took the day off and left, frightened.

As I was walking back, there was a strange old man standing while we were all sitting on the bench waiting at the bus station. So I got up and gave him my place on the bench, and he politely thanked me. When we were getting on the bus, the driver was so rude and agitated! He started to yell at the passengers because he was tight on time. The old man was taking time to get in, so I got off the bus to help carry him. I was extremely strong and was finally able to get the old grandpa into the bus.

A small voice whispered from the old man not knowing where it came from telling me: "Don't worry little girl, every kindness you share will find its way back to you, if not on this earth, then surely in heaven."

But, as soon as he set his foot on the bus, the driver just drove off and left me in the middle of the street! I was already feeling tired and confused, so it was not the right time. This had been a really hectic day for me!

I just sat on the floor and started crying, covering my face. Then, a strange silhouette approached me and gave me a set of tissues. I couldn't see his face properly as I was looking up and the sun was covering it. The silhouette was very familiar though. He looked… He looked just like… Well, he had the same hair as the guy I saw in my dream!

I quickly wiped the tear off my cheek to take a good look at his face, only to see him walking away. What a strange guy, I thought!

Well, I always had a feeling I'd have, in the future, some strong duty to fulfill. I just never expected it to be that big…
