Chapter 1 - Prologue

On a hot sunny evening in Los Angeles, the streets were filled with people panicking and running around like headless chickens. The city much like the rest of the world at the moment was in chaos.

Unlike the past events in recent memory, it wasn't because of riots or a fire outbreak. Instead the city was being invaded by otherworldly monsters.

Many people were hiding in their homes or any buildings that they could enter as national guards and local police were doing their best to contain the monster outbreak. At the very least the national guards were deployed before hand because of a controversial livestream a week earlier, but the guards themselves weren't properly equipped to deal with hordes of monsters flooding the streets especially when small arm fire barely penetrated the monsters' hides.

The sounds of screaming, gunfire, and otherworldly roars filled the air in the city. One family in particular, was rushing down the street from the ensuing chaos. Yet they were slowed down by their youngest child who was no older than 14 years old. It wasn't her fault for slowing them down as earlier, a small tree-like monster gripped her right foot tightly with its claws before her parents and older sister were able to knock the creature away. Now she was limping while wrapping her arm around her older sister's neck for support. While her father was carrying a metal bat protecting their front and her mother who usually carried a small revolver was protecting their rear.

So far, the family was able to survive together despite their circumstances. Her father was silently blaming the government for not preparing enough even though they were warned, but he was also to blame too as he didn't take the warning seriously and decided on a family outing to try to repair their relationship. It was natural to ignore the idea of their world being invaded by monsters from another world even if 'that person' took extreme action to prove their point. Now, the world was facing the consequences of that choice.

The young girl kept herself from tearfully breaking down from both the situation and the gashing pain on her injured foot. Yet, the moment the young girl saw the flood of monsters in front of them, she knew what she had to do but it took every bit of courage to say it.

"G-guys...y-you should leave me. I'm de-"

"No sweetie, we're not doing that."

Her stubborn father interrupted her like always to refuse her one selfless request before saying something that brought tears to her redden eyes.

"We live as a family so we'll die as a family. I rather die than abandon my little princess."

"M-me too."

"I agree with your father wholeheartedly sweetie."

Her older sister and mother surprisingly agreed with that sentiment because her family usually argue over mundane dumb things and this was the one time they agreed on something. Heck an hour ago, she openly shouted how much she hated this family over something she forgot about before monsters came out of nowhere to ruin her day.

Now...

"Honey, do you have enough bullets for all of us?"

Her mother checked her revolver as she answered.

"....yes...."

'So this is it huh'

The young girl thought. There was so many things she wanted to do and say but in the end she was glad to die with her family.

"I'm sorry for acting like a brat earlier and I'm sorry for being an awful daughter....I h-hope we'll see each other soon wherever that is...sniff"

The young girl finally broke down in tears as she poured her heart out into the apology. Yet her father remained silent only letting a tear drop from his eye as if reassuring her that everything will be alright. Her older sister just hugged her tightly expressing her love the best she could in this situation.

Meanwhile her mother acted as coolly as possible to force out the thought of committing such a heinous act of mercy.

"Don't worry, it'll all be over soon."

Yet before the mother performed the dark deed, an explosion happened in front of them wiping out the monster horde then a silverly flash passed by them to slay a tree-like gremlin that snuck behind her father.

Her father's savior revealed himself as a dashing young man in half-plated silver armor with short hair and eyes that matched his armor color which perfectly complimented his pale skin.

Before anyone could react, the young man spoke.

"Hey uh is everyone okay? Oh wait let me see your foot...no wait. Sir and ma'am, do I have permission to heal your daughter's foot?"

The way he saved them was straight out of the movie but the way he spoke was as if this was his first time on the job.

Regardless he was their savior so the whole family collectively nod their head in agreement. They were too stun by the chain of events to verbally answer him.

The young man then crouch down as the young girl showed her injured foot. The deep gashes on the foot were enough to require intense surgery to even save the foot yet all logic went away as the young man hovered his right hand over her foot and emitted a small light over it.

At first, her foot itched like crazy before a soothing feeling overcame it then the pain and even the gashes disappeared before everyone's eyes. The young man then stood up and explained safety routes and precautions to them, yet the young girl couldn't pay attention as her eyes were glued on his perfect handsome face and his...

'He's around my height making him short and handsome which is cute. Wait how old is he and does he have a girlfriend?'

A teenage girl's first crush was born right in front of her. But alas, it was simply a one-sided crush as before the young man finished his explanation, a third party called out to him.

"Darling, can you finish already? We have more beasts to hunt in this dastardly hot weather."

The source of the lovely female voice came from above them forcing everyone to look at her standing on the rooftop above them only for the sun to be shown brightly behind the mysterious woman masking her appearance. Yet they could make out the shape of a witch hat that she was wearing and her accent was...

'A British accent?'

Was the young girl's thought, yet now her first crush died as fast as it was born possibly beating a world record. Still she was happy that her and her family were saved by them.

The young man sighed before replying.

"Then why did you decide to wear black? Huh Belle?"

"Because its fashionable and comforting, who knew your ugly world can make such stylish comfy outfits."

"Who cares about fashion right now."

"Tsk, this is why you're single. Only your good looks can save your fashion sense."

"Excuse m-"

"Ahem"

They continued bantering before the father cleared his throat interrupting them.

"Umm...thank you young man for saving my family but can we get your name before leaving?"

The young man scratched the back of his head feeling embarrassed before replying.

"Oh it's Ian...at the moment I'm still not sure what to choose between my last names so its complicated. Anyway just call me Ian and make sure to follow my directions to keep your family okay?"

The family did as he instructed and move toward where they were originally running from which was now cleared of monsters. The banter from earlier released a lot of tension in the air but it also caused an awkwardness among the family as before, they collectively agreed on a dark escape from a even worse fate. Of course, now they had time to sort out those thoughts and feelings amongst them later. The young girl, now able to walk normally, turned her head back to burn the image of a knightly figure waiting for his witch friend to descend from the rooftop.

The witch was floating down with levitation-like magic yet the girl couldn't help but notice Ian was holding out his hand for the witch to hold in mid-air as if he was making sure she landed safely.

The sight was so beautiful in such a chaotic environment that the girl silently wish for them to survive together and have a happy ending.
