JOSH SILVESTER POV
Entering the study and taking my seat behind my desk, I waited for my wife and son to get seated so that my son could finally speak his mind.
Rey had been acting abnormally since his fall yesterday afternoon and when we asked him this morning he postponed speaking about it till now.
'Seeing how he required us to speak privately it might be something serious to him.'
As my thoughts wandered I focused back and gestured for him to speak.
"Dad, have you activated the privacy formations?"
"Is that necessary?", I asked as I wondered what he was being so secretive about.
"Yes.", answered Rey with a serious expression.
I wanted to tease him a bit, but seeing my wife glaring at me for procrastinating, I gave up arguing and got to work.
"Fine."
I said as I inserted mana into the privacy wards.
'I don't know what goes on in the minds of kids these days. Sigh~'
After confirming that the formations were active and the wards were working I said to Rey
"We are secure, you can speak now."
After hearing me Rey made a serious expression and said words that nearly startled the life out of me
"Dad, I recovered memories of my previous life."
"What did you say?" I asked back instinctively.
"I recovered the memories of my previous life." said Rey as he repeated himself.
"No, I heard you the first time. Is it some kind of prank?" I asked as I sent my consciousness into the depths of my mind and examined the five glowing groups of fire that were supposed to be there burning as they were meant to normally.
Finding no abnormality I quickly returned my consciousness back even before a moment passed, as my presence of mind returned to my body I heard my wife speaking
"Are you alright son?" she asked.
"No Mom and Dad, you don't understand. I am not joking, I have recovered the memories of my previous life after falling from the tree. I don't know how but I remember my previous life."
Said Rey looking me straight in the eyes.
"Son it not good to make a joke like that-"
As my wife was about to continue admonishing him I raised my hand to stop her from speaking any further, I knew from the determined look in his eyes that he was serious.
'That explains his actions since yesterday.'
"Tell me everything," I said fully focusing my attention and reconfirming the privacy wards.
"You believe me?" asked Rey surprised by my actions.
"Not completely, but I trust you enough. So I am willing to listen, and judge it myself."
As I explained to him the reasons behind my statement, I saw him sigh in relief and become visibly more relaxed.
"Great," said Rey.
"So tell me, how do you know that it's your previous life?" I asked, seeing that he was comfortable enough for what might be a long talk.
"Because the final memory I have is of an incident which I believe caused my death in that life." and Rey answered with a surprising revelation.
"What!? Are you alright?" asked Mira as she stood up and checked him for injuries.
"Yes? Ah, yes. I am fine, Mom. I am talking about death in memories of my last life." said Rey looking relaxed.
"Then tell me everything from the beginning." seeing that Rey was not uncomfortable speaking about it, I asked him for the whole story, an interesting yet monotonous one at the same time.
"Yes, in my last life, my name was Rey Stalon....
.
.
.
....and so due to a distraction during the experiment caused a mistake which led to my death." Rey said finishing his words.
As I listened to my son's story without interruption, I could not help but be astonished by the world he described.
How the humans of his world built vessels of metal that could fly or machines that could communicate from one end of the world to another without even the presence of mana.
Or maybe it was that absence of mana that compelled them to seek different alternatives and achieve such progress.
As soon as Rey finished his story Mira asked
"Your name was previously Rey too?"
"Yes," Rey answered with a nod of his head.
"That's such a coincidence," Mira said with an expression of surprise as she wondered at the marvellous coincidence.
"I think so too," said Rey agreeing with his mother.
.
'Coincidence or Destiny?'
I mused as I watched the mother and son talk to each other.
"How are you feeling now, do those memories cause any discomfort?"
Asked my wife Mira.
"No, mom. I don't feel any discomfort but I think my thought process and way of thinking has changed a little." Rey answered as he told us what he believed to be the aftereffects of receiving those memories.
'Now that he mentions it he appears much calmer and steadier than before.'
As I observed Rey I started to notice the obvious changes in his ways that I previously ignored.
"It's good that you're fine, you really have no problem right?" asked Mira.
"I am fine, Mom," Rey said as he repeated those words.
"That's good," I said.
"Wait! You don't have any more questions about it?" Rey turned to me and asked.
"Yes. While I would like to know more about the technology of that world, I don't have any other questions." I said to Rey as I told him about what I found intriguing in his story.
"What!? Aren't you worried that my soul was taken over by someone else?" Rey asked with a shocked face.
"What kind of weird thoughts are you having? If something happened to your soul I would be the first to know." I answered instantly.
"How?" asked Rey surprised at my Revelation.
'Now that I think of it, he doesn't know about it.'
"Hmm, I won't tell you." I decided to let him be in the dark a little while longer.
After I finished my words Rey went silent and kept looking at me, like he wanted to ask for something but was hesitant to speak.
Seeing his look I asked him
"What is it that you need?"
"I need resources to build a lab."
He answered instantly at the opportunity.
I stared at him as I saw him constantly shifting in his seat as if troubled by something, seeing his uneasiness I said after a moment.
"Consider it done, make a list of whatever you need and send it to me."
"Yes! Thank you, Dad."
Rey said as he let out a breath.
"You can leave now, I have something to talk about with your mom," I said as I told him off.
"Yes. Good night Mom and Dad."
Rey instantly got up and went out of the study.
After Rey left the room I asked my wife
"What do you think?"
"About the story or about Rey?" asked Mira.
"Both." (Josh)
"Rey is still himself, while his thoughts seem more mature his unconscious habits haven't changed and about the story he told, I believe him but I have a feeling that something about his actions right now does not add up," Mira said seriously as she left her doting mother state becoming the proper noble lady.
'Sometimes I wonder if she has a split personality'
"It's his sense of urgency like he is in some trouble," I told her my findings while inwardly complimenting her observations for being sharp as always.
"Yes, that's the feeling I got too. So let me confirm, is he still himself?" she asked.
"Yes, he is still Rey. There no change in his soul flame." I answered despite knowing she already had an answer in her heart.
"That's good to hear. What do you think is the cause of his urgency?" She asked.
"I don't know. I feel like he did not tell us everything." I answered.
"Then why did you agree to his request?" she questioned me, I know she wanted to know why I didn't question Rey.
'Sigh~ woman. If I questioned him, you would've blamed me, for being the doting mother you are. Now that I didn't question him, you ask me why I didn't question him?'
"Because he is my son, I will support him no matter what and if I refused you wouldn't let me off," I said as I put on the front of a righteous father and loving to ward off future troubles in the house.
"You know me well, darling. But aren't you curious about what he left out?" she asked with a smile.
"I am, but I will wait for him to tell me," I answered not falling for her attempt at making my act falter.
REY SIVESTER POV
Getting out of the study room I let out a sigh of relief, still surprised at how smoothly the talk happened.
'Though I certainly didn't expect Dad to agree to my request for the lab so easily.'
I thought to myself, while I also wondered why Dad was not worried about my soul being changed.
'Whatever, as long as it all worked out.'
Letting go of the thoughts about the talk, I focused them on my plans for the upcoming future.
"I'll need to prepare for all kinds of possibilities in the novel world. No matter what, I will survive my death," I muttered to myself as walked towards my room.
