Kael Mercer awakens in a white void with no memories and a terrifying truth: He is a Dungeon Core. Hidden deep within a massive prehistoric rainforest dungeon, Kael must build a living ecosystem of dinosaurs, expand his territory, and defend his core from invading adventurers. With only a handful of weak creatures and a mysterious system guiding him, survival is far from guaranteed. Because if the dungeon core is destroyed… Kael dies permanently. As his dungeon evolves and stronger enemies appear, Kael begins uncovering secrets behind the system, and the true purpose of living dungeons.

Chapter 1 - The White Room

Pain pulsed behind the man's eyes.

A dull ache dragged through his skull as consciousness slowly returned to him. He groaned softly and pushed himself upright, only to freeze.

Everything around him was white.

Not painted white.

Not brightly lit.

Just… white.

The floor stretched endlessly beneath him without seams or cracks. The walls blended into the ceiling until it became impossible to tell where one ended and the other began.

The man's breathing quickened.

"How did I get here…?"

His voice echoed strangely through the empty void.

He pressed both hands against his head, trying desperately to remember something.

Anything.

But there was nothing there.

No memories.

No past.

No name.

Only an awful emptiness.

Panic slowly tightened in his chest.

"Who am I…?"

Movement caught his eye.

A black cube floated silently several feet away.

It was perfectly smooth and roughly the size of a basketball. Thin silver lines pulsed faintly across its surface like glowing veins.

The cube hovered motionless.

Watching him.

The man frowned uneasily.

"What is that supposed to be?"

No answer came.

Still, it was the only thing in the endless white void.

Swallowing nervously, he slowly climbed to his feet and approached it. The cube drifted upward until it hovered directly at eye level.

The silver lines brightened.

The man hesitated for a moment before sighing.

"Well… things probably can't get any stranger."

He reached out and poked the cube.

Instantly, a glowing blue screen exploded into existence before him.

The man jumped backward.

[DUNGEON MENU]

[STATUS] [DUNGEON STATUS]

[DUNGEON STORE] [DUNGEON EXPANSION]

[MONSTERS]

"…What?"

The floating screen remained perfectly still.

It looked exactly like something from a game.

Cautiously, the man reached forward and pressed [STATUS].

The menu shifted.

"Dungeon core…?"

More text appeared beneath it.

[WELCOME, NEW DUNGEON CORE.]

[YOUR PURPOSE IS TO GROW.]

[EXPAND.]

[SURVIVE.]

[ACCUMULATE ENERGY.]

A cold shiver crawled down his spine.

"I'm not a dungeon…"

The system ignored him.

Another message appeared.

[INITIALIZING CORE IDENTITY…]

The cube flashed brightly.

Lines of text rapidly scrolled past before finally stopping.

[IDENTITY GENERATED]

Name: Kael Mercer

The man blinked.

"Kael…"

The name felt unfamiliar.

Yet strangely correct.

"…Kael Mercer."

The system continued.

[CORE CHAMBER CREATED]

The white void suddenly trembled.

Space itself distorted before part of the room peeled open like tearing paper.

A second room appeared beyond it.

Kael's eyes widened.

Dark stone walls curved into a circular chamber illuminated by glowing blue crystals embedded in the ceiling. Floating screens surrounded a raised platform in the centre of the room.

The black cube drifted toward the platform before sinking into it.

The entire chamber hummed softly.

Kael cautiously stepped inside.

The moment he crossed the threshold, instinctive understanding flooded his mind.

This was his Core Chamber.

A hidden space connected directly to the dungeon.

Safe.

Hidden.

The true location of the dungeon core.

Another screen appeared.

[CORE CHAMBER FUNCTIONS]

• Observe Dungeon Floors

• Command Monsters

• Monitor Energy Production

• Access Expansion Systems

• Emergency Recall Within Dungeon Territory

Kael slowly looked around.

"So I control the dungeon from here…"

The screens shifted again.

Kael studied the choices carefully.

If survival depended on creating a stable ecosystem, then food and cover mattered most.

"Tropical Rainforest."

[BIOME SELECTED: TROPICAL RAINFOREST (F)]

GENERATING DUNGEON FLOOR…

One of the floating screens expanded outward.

Kael watched in amazement as a massive jungle formed within it like a living world.

Huge ferns burst from the ground. Thick trees twisted skyward while rivers carved through muddy terrain.

The dungeon had been born.

Another screen appeared beside it.

[DUNGEON FLOOR — FLOOR 1]

Biome: Tropical Rainforest (F)

Floor Size: 3km × 3km

Core Position: Central Region

Status: Stable

Kael stared at the scale of it.

The rainforest stretched endlessly in every direction. Massive trees towered above thick undergrowth while cliffs, rivers, and rocky hills divided the terrain naturally.

At the exact center of the biome sat a tangled mound of gigantic roots and moss-covered stone.

Hidden beneath it rested the black cube.

His core.

Nearly invisible beneath layers of jungle growth.

Another screen materialized.

[SELECT STARTER DINOSAURS]

YOU MAY CHOOSE FIVE F-RANK DINOSAURS

Five creatures appeared before him.

This time they were much smaller.

1. Troodon (F)

Small intelligent carnivore.

• Strong hunting instincts

Kael crossed his arms thoughtfully.

These dinosaurs were weaker, but easier to sustain early on.

He needed survival more than brute force.

"Two Troodons."

The intelligent predators seemed too useful to ignore.

"One Microceratus."

A breeding herbivore would help stabilize the ecosystem.

"One Dimorphodon."

Scouting was important.

The final choice took longer.

Eventually Kael nodded.

"One Compsognathus."

[STARTER SELECTION CONFIRMED]

2x Troodon

1x Microceratus

1x Dimorphodon

1x Compsognathus

The jungle display shimmered.

Movement appeared moments later.

A feathered Troodon emerged cautiously from thick foliage, golden eyes scanning the rainforest intelligently.

Another followed behind it.

The pair chirped softly to one another before slipping into the undergrowth.

Kael suddenly felt something strange.

Connection.

He could sense their emotions faintly.

Curiosity.

Hunger.

Alertness.

Soon a small Microceratus wandered into view while a lone Compsognathus darted between ferns nearby.

High overhead, a Dimorphodon launched itself between towering trees with a sharp screech.

Kael stared silently.

"They're real…"

The system chimed again.

[FIRST OBJECTIVE GENERATED]

Survive Seven Days

Reward:

• Dungeon Expansion Token ×1

• +50 Energy Points

• Random Dinosaur Egg

Failure:

• Core Destruction

• Permanent Death

Kael frowned.

Permanent death.

So even hidden inside the Core Chamber, he could still die if the dungeon core itself was destroyed.

Before he could think further, one of the Troodons suddenly froze.

Its feathers puffed outward.

The second immediately lowered its body into the undergrowth.

Kael focused on the screen.

Movement appeared at the southern edge of the rainforest biome.

Not near the core.

Far away.

A section of cliffside concealed by vines suddenly glowed faintly before opening into a cave entrance.

Three human figures stumbled out into the jungle.

A blue screen automatically appeared beside them.

[ADVENTURERS DETECTED]

Rowan Pike

Rank: F

Class: Swordsman

Mira Holt

Rank: F

Class: Archer

Derren Voss

Rank: F

Class: Rogue

Another screen unfolded beside the map.

[INTRUDER LOCATION]

Southern Entrance Zone

Distance From Core: 2.8km

Kael exhaled slowly.

"They haven't found the core…"

The trio looked exhausted.

Sweat covered their faces while insects buzzed endlessly around them.

"This doesn't look like a normal cave dungeon," Mira muttered while brushing thick leaves aside with her bow.

Rowan tightened his grip on his sword.

"Doesn't matter. We map the area, find the core, destroy it, get paid."

Derren crouched near the muddy ground.

"…Tracks."

He pointed toward several small footprints near disturbed ferns.

"Something lives here."

Kael's attention sharpened immediately.

One of the Troodons had passed through the area minutes earlier.

The system chimed softly.

[ADVENTURERS HAVE ENTERED DUNGEON TERRITORY]

CURRENT OBJECTIVE UPDATED:

Defend The Core

For a moment Kael had imagined the adventurers would instantly rush toward the center.

But the dungeon was enormous.

Dense rainforest, rivers, predators, darkness, and distance all stood between the invaders and the core.

Which meant he had something precious.

Time.

Time to observe.

Time to prepare.

Time to hunt.

The Dimorphodon screeched overhead as it glided through the upper canopy.

Suddenly Kael's vision shifted.

He saw the jungle from above.

The adventurers appeared tiny beneath the endless sea of green.

Kael's eyes widened.

"I can see through them…"

The flying reptile circled silently high overhead while remaining hidden by the canopy.

Below, the two Troodons stalked through the undergrowth several hundred meters away from the intruders.

Patient.

Watching.

Learning.

Near the center of the dungeon, the Compsognathus remained hidden among the giant roots protecting the core while the lone Microceratus grazed quietly beside a riverbank.

Kael slowly sat down at the center platform inside the Core Chamber.

The floating screens surrounded him like a command center.

This wasn't just a dungeon.

It was a living ecosystem.

And somewhere within his rainforest…

Three humans had begun hunting for its heart.
