Today is the day I've been waiting for my whole life, my first day as a cop. I'm a little nervous but excited at the same time, everyone is texting me wishing me good luck on my first day. I check my messages and see a message from my mom
"Hey Ant, good luck on your first day, be careful"
"I will mom thank you"
Then my dad texts me
"Ant you did it man, you're making your dream a reality, just don't be a dick out there like the cops I dealt with when I was younger"
"lol I'll try my best"
Then my brother but it wasn't for the job
"Can you check if I left my lunch in the fridge?"
"Yeah you did it's mine now"
"You bitch"
"😂😂"
I get my stuff ready and then head out me and my brother's apartment and hop in the car and drive down the station. I pull up to the station and read the sign
"Cedar Cove Police Department, here we go"
I park my car and walk into the station and head to get dressed. I walk into the locker room and get to the locker where my uniform is, I stand there looking at it for a moment just taking it all in before changing into the uniform. I check myself out in the mirror and everything looks good, the all black uniform looks good on me. I go into the office for briefing and I'm assigned to a patrol car with a older officer for my first day, he comes up to me and shakes my hand
"You're Sanchez the new rookie right?"
"Yes sir"
"I'm officer Torres, you ready for your first day?"
"I've been ready sir"
"Yeah we'll see"
Fucking díck, I already tell today's going to be a long day with this guy. We get to the patrol car and head out to the area where we were assigned to, not too bad of an area mostly just older people and stuck up rich assholes. As we're driving he starts asking me the basic questions
"So where are you from?"
"California"
"No shit we're in California, what part, what city?"
"I'm from the southern part"
"Hmmm what made you become a cop?"
"A lot of my family members were in law enforcement so it made me want to be apart of it also"
"Typical… how old are you?"
"I'm twenty five"
"Jesus you're young, every year you rookies get younger and younger"
"Isn't that what you guys want though"
"Yeah but most of you young guys are dumb fucks and always on a mission to prove yourselves, until you get shot or your ass beat"
"That's not me sir I promise you that"
"Yeah we'll see. Anyways I'm only a few years from retiring myself, just got to hold on a little bit longer"
"Don't worry I got your back out here"
"I hope so, but we're going to a low crime area right now so we shouldn't be too worried, probably mostly giving out speeding tickets"
"Hmmm alright not too bad"
"You got any kids rook?"
"Nope"
"A girl?"
"Naw im single, mostly just flings for the most part"
"Flings?"
"Yeah like just hooking up"
"So you just fuck is what you're saying?"
"I mean it's not like the girl ain't trying to fuck me too"
"Man to be young again, listen don't get married kid trust me I've been married for close to fifteen years now."
"That's good though no?"
"Yeah I guess so, but she complains all the time, I get a day off and she wants to go out to some bullshit play or movie"
I laugh
"What you don't like plays sir?"
"I'd rather stay at home and watch the game and maybe get some head but that definitely ain't happening"
"That's tragic"
"You're telling me, so like I said don't get married"
"Copy that sir"
Just as we arrive we catch a corvette speeding and pull them over
"Alright you're up kid, I'll be right behind you"
I get out the patrol car and approach the corvette and see a blonde white girl inside, I get to the window and do what I have to do
"License and registration"
She gives me her documents
"Do you know why I pulled you over?"
She looks at me and gives a seductive look
"Hmm I don't know but I'm not complaining that you did it"
"Do you know how fast you were going?"
"No I don't officer"
"You were going twenty miles over the speed limit"
"Oh no I'm so sorry"
"Is there a reason why you were speeding?"
"Im kinda late for work"
"Well now you're going to be even more late"
I head back and run her plates and documents, everything is fine and I head back to her car
"Alright everything is good but I'm going to write you a ticket"
"Ok officer"
I hand her the ticket
"Please slow down before you get hurt or hurt anyone else"
"Yes sir, hopefully I see you again"
"Hopefully you don't, have a good day"
I walk back to the car and Torres looks at me
"Damn you have some professionalism and restraint, a lot of guys would've folded and let her go with a warning"
"Yeah well, a girl ain't gonna flirt her way out with me anytime soon"
"Good, now let's keep doing our patrols"
We drive around a little bit longer and I break the silence
"Sooo does anything exciting happen in this city ever, it's like ever since I moved here nothing happens here"
"Naw not really, biggest thing that's ever happened to me was a drug bust but no shooting or nothing"
"Man, so we just drive around most of the time?"
"Pretty much"
"I guess that's alright"
"Yeah get ready for the most boring time of your life, but at least you get paid good"
"Can't argue with that"
"Anyways before we clock out later I want to introduce you to some of the dispatchers"
"They're chill?"
"Well you're going to meet two girls, one is engaged and the other is mostly quiet, always working out in the gym after the shift is over"
"Sounds like I'm going to get to know her more because that's what I was planning to do after every shift"
"Good luck rook, she hasn't gave any one the time of day, what makes you different"
"Maybe because I'm not going to be trying to fuck like the others and just try to be friends and workout together sometimes"
"Yeah sure kid, anyways you like sports?"
"Yeah I watch usually football, baseball and boxing mostly"
"Not bad maybe we'll get along after all, you a rams fan?"
"Hell no"
"But you're from California"
"So…"
"So what team do you like?"
"Jets"
He starts laughing
"Oh hell no"
"Whatever man"
"At least tell me your a dodger fan"
"Oh yeah obviously"
"Ok good finally we agree on something"
For the rest of the shift we just drive around talking and getting to know each other better. He seemed like a díck at first but after this shift he doesn't seem too bad, just an older vet who's ready to retire and get away from all the bullshit it seems. First day has been easy but let's see how these two dispatchers are
