Chapter 1 - Ch 1 : The Power that Corrodes the World

[Loading system... Opening personal panel... Opening dimensional channel... Deploying Dragonfang Soldiers…]

[Selecting top-tier native lifeform... Selection complete: Human. Beginning class draw…]

"Hm?"

Bai Qiu, who had just finished working the forge, looked around in confusion.

Suddenly, a glowing panel appeared before his eyes, displaying a line of text.

[Drawing your base class…]

Saber Class, Lancer Class, Rider Class, Caster Class, Archer Class, Assassin Class, Berserker Class…

At last, the pointer stopped on the Lancer Class icon.

The screen flashed, and his personal panel appeared—

Bai Qiu Lv.1

Strength: E+

Magic: E

Endurance: E-

Agility: E

Luck: F-

Class: Lancer

Lancer Class Blessing: Minor Strength Boost, Moderate Agility Boost

Noble Phantasm: Unlocked – None

Weapon Card: Steel Spear (Grade E-)

Equipment Cards: None

Item Cards: None

Skill Cards: None

"???" Bai Qiu was completely dumbfounded.

Then, the system's voice echoed once again—

[Deploying corresponding class weapon and starter items…]

After confirming he wasn't hallucinating, Bai Qiu began carefully examining this so-called "system."

To his disappointment, he discovered it wasn't some exclusive cheat system.

Instead, it was a public system, distributing the same basic starter gear and items to everyone.

"Interesting…" he muttered, rubbing his slightly sore arms before pulling out the steel spear and giving it a few test swings.

Hmm, a bit heavy.

He could lift it one-handed, but swinging it felt clumsy and soft.

He couldn't quite gauge the exact weight, though his muscle fatigue from earlier training probably had something to do with it.

He continued experimenting with the storage card function and found that he could convert the spear into a card and store it inside.

With a simple thought, the storage card appeared before him—just like the system panel.

"Whew—"

A creature that looked like a fruit bat with fangs suddenly flew in through the window, diving straight at him.

Reacting on instinct, Bai Qiu threw a sharp elbow strike, smashing it into the wall.

With a thought, his steel spear reappeared in his hands—he gripped it tightly and thrust it forward with all his strength!

The spear pierced clean through the fang-bat, embedding itself several centimeters deep into the plastered wall behind it.

[Ding! You have slain a Dragonfang Soldier. Gained +10 EXP.]

"Dragonfang Soldier?" Bai Qiu realized at once—this must be one of the monsters deployed by the system.

But he didn't have time to ponder.

He quickly retracted his spear, shut the window tight, and pulled the curtains closed.

No matter what was going on, staying hidden came first.

He took a deep breath and turned his attention back to the system's intel.

Next to his Level 1 indicator, a new line appeared: EXP 10/50.

That meant he only needed to kill five Dragonfang Soldiers to level up to Level 2.

On the floor lay a [Dragon Fang], an ordinary material — a clean, white fang.

Bai Qiu exhaled deeply.

He decided to rest a bit before trying to farm monsters for experience.

While he was asleep in his dorm room, chaos broke out in the same building.

Other residents ran downstairs in panic — some were chased down and torn apart by Dragonfang Soldiers, while others managed to escape by car…

Two hours later.

"Mm…"

After waking up, Bai Qiu washed his face and ate some fruit to fill his stomach.

Then he pulled the curtain aside just enough to peek out at the world beyond the window.

His eyes narrowed.

Not far away, he spotted another Dragonfang Soldier — and immediately, an information panel appeared before his eyes:

Dragonfang Soldier Lv.1

Strength: E-

Magic: F-

Endurance: E-

Agility: E-

Trait: Flies faster than it runs.

Skills: None

Bai Qiu compared the monster's stats to his own.

After a brief glance between the two panels, he grinned.

"The advantage is mine. Let's do this!"

He stepped out of the dorm, cautiously opening the door just a crack first to observe his surroundings.

Seeing only one Dragonfang Soldier wandering about twenty meters away, he took a deep breath, slipped outside, and left the door slightly ajar — just enough for a quick retreat.

Moments later, the Dragonfang Soldier turned its head, spotted him, and shrieked as it swooped down.

Having dealt with one before, Bai Qiu didn't panic.

He calmly summoned his steel spear from the storage card and thrust straight ahead.

The strike pierced clean through the creature's body again — instantly killing it.

It dissolved into experience points and dropped another Dragon Fang.

Just as Bai Qiu was about to look for his next target, he noticed —

a whole swarm of Dragonfang Soldiers was now flying toward him!

Sensing danger, he quickly retracted his spear and dashed back toward the dorm.

He flung the door open and dove inside — but he had underestimated their speed.

As he tried to shut the door, one of the creatures crashed through, forcing him to clamp it tightly between the frame and the door.

The rest tried to squeeze through the gap, screeching madly.

"Damn it!" Bai Qiu gritted his teeth, pulling hard on the iron door handle with one hand while summoning his steel spear again with a thought.

Gripping the shaft near the blade for more control, he thrust forward with all his strength — straight into the head of the nearest Dragonfang Soldier!

[Ding! You have slain a Dragonfang Soldier. Gained +10 EXP.]

[Ding!]

[Ding!]

[Ding! Gained +10 EXP. Level Up!]

Bai Qiu successfully leveled up to Level 2.

The fatigue that had been weighing on him moments ago vanished, replaced by a surge of strength.

With a powerful tug of his right arm, the three remaining Dragonfang Soldiers caught in the door crack had their eyes bulging out from the pressure!

Three quick thrusts of his spear finished them off.

Bai Qiu then realized that using the door handle as a trap point was surprisingly effective.

Grinning, he decided to repeat the same tactic — turning it into a full-blown "door-handle monster-pulling strategy."

With a crack, the door handle suddenly snapped off in his hand.

Fortunately, there were only two Dragonfang Soldiers left, and with one sweeping strike, his spear pierced through both at once.

"Phew…" Bai Qiu panted heavily, exhausted.

After collecting a few more Dragon Fangs, he climbed back up to his room.

He took a long, satisfying hot shower, scrolled through his phone for a few minutes, then dried his hair and went straight to bed.

As for why he wasn't using his phone for long — the signal was gone.

No Wi-Fi, no data.

Completely offline.

Still, after an afternoon of nonstop monster grinding, his level had reached Level 4.

The next morning.

Bai Qiu awoke to the sound of chaos outside, though he didn't seem particularly bothered.

He pulled the curtain open — and saw the sky filled with massive bat-like creatures, so dense they almost blotted out the light, like a storm of wings.

They hovered and circled like flies, watching every human below who tried to hide or flee — then dived down all at once.

"Ahhh!!!"

Screams echoed through the streets, mixed with the sounds of crashing cars and shattering glass.

Vehicles caught fire, smoke billowed upward, and those hiding inside were forced to flee — only to be immediately swarmed and torn apart by the low-flying monsters.

Dragonfang Soldier Lv.2

Strength: E-

Magic: F-

Endurance: E-

Agility: E-

Trait: Flies faster than it runs.

They had leveled up, but their stats hadn't improved at all.

Clearly, their growth potential was minimal.

Despite the name "Dragonfang Soldier," they were really just oversized bats with multiple fangs.

Stat-wise, they were weaker than the average adult human — though their flight speed was much faster than a person could run.

When the monsters saw humans fleeing from cars, they swarmed and tore into them, blood and flesh splattering everywhere.

The victims screamed for only a few seconds before falling silent.

Bai Qiu watched the carnage below with a calm, expressionless face.

In his hand was a gray-black spear — and a glowing card.

"…Time to hunt," he murmured softly.

"By tomorrow, I bet Level 3 Dragonfang Soldiers will start showing up everywhere."

Bai Qiu Lv.4

Strength: E++

Magic: E

Endurance: E

Agility: E++

Luck: F-

For humans of the same level — taking an average adult male as the standard — anyone who made good use of the starter equipment cards could easily slay Dragonfang Soldiers.

Even bare-handed, these monsters' base stats were still inferior to an ordinary man's.

After sorting through his supplies, Bai Qiu packed everything neatly into his starter storage card.

Once he confirmed everything was in order, he stepped out of the dorm.

In this world now being eroded by mysterious powers, Bai Qiu was among the first ordinary people to adapt.

He had quickly understood that, alongside the descending catastrophe, the world had also granted its people a strange system of gifts.

Using nothing but the iron door downstairs and his own wits, he had slain countless Dragonfang Soldiers — and risen steadily to Level 4.

The Dragonfang Soldiers were incredibly fast in the air.

Even though Bai Qiu's Agility stat was higher than theirs, their straight-line flight speed still outpaced him.

However, he knew their weaknesses well.

At the very moment a Dragonfang Soldier lunged toward him, he would sidestep and swing his spear in a sweeping arc, avoiding the attack while using the creature's own momentum to deal massive damage.

The spear struck hard — one Dragonfang Soldier was knocked out of the air, one of its wings severed clean off.

Blood spattered across the pavement as it writhed in pain.

But that didn't last long — Bai Qiu's next thrust pierced straight through its head.

The creature's body twitched for a moment, spraying blood everywhere, before dissolving into glimmering light particles, leaving behind only a white fang on the ground.

These Dragonfang Soldiers were creatures brought into the world after its mysterious transformation.

Upon death, their bodies would vanish by some unknown mechanism — and those who slew them would obtain loot drops and experience points.

Unlike the frightened masses hiding indoors, Bai Qiu actively hunted them.

One or two were easy prey; three at once put on a bit of pressure — but against five or more, even he had to retreat temporarily.

Amid the maze of high-rise streets, Bai Qiu moved swiftly, stalking isolated Dragonfang Soldiers and taking them down one by one.

With every level gained, his physique strengthened — by now, he estimated his body surpassed even world-class athletes from the old world.

The improvement was so drastic that even he found it hard to believe.

"Not enough… still not enough!"

After hours of relentless hunting, Bai Qiu finally reached Level 5 — yet the power boost from leveling up was still far from enough to take on an entire swarm head-on.

He knew there must be other humans like him out there — battle-hungry, determined survivors.

If he ever stopped pushing forward, he'd soon be left behind, overtaken by those with greater talent or drive, and fade into mediocrity.

The experience gained from slaying Dragonfang Soldiers was diminishing, while the required EXP for each level kept increasing.

Bai Qiu realized that relying on level-ups alone would never make him strong enough to face a horde — not anytime soon.

After clearing out dozens of blocks worth of Dragonfang Soldiers, his level finally reached Level 6.

But the real opportunity before him wasn't from leveling up — it was the card floating in the air at his feet.

Enhancement Card (Rank E)

Description:

A basic enhancement card dropped by Dragonfang Soldiers.

Increases Strength, Magic, Endurance, and Agility by 10%.

(The percentage applies to maximum base stats — as your base stats increase, the card's effect scales accordingly.)

This card can be upgraded in quality using identical cards or a certain number of Dragon Fangs.

Note: You can use up to three Enhancement Cards per tier, and they cannot be replaced once equipped. Choose carefully.

To reach Level 6, he had killed at least a hundred Dragonfang Soldiers, yet this was the only card that had dropped.

Could it be because of his abysmally low Luck stat?

Bai Qiu frowned.

He doubted the card was actually rare — more likely, he was just unlucky.

Still, since he had nothing else, there was no reason to hesitate.

He immediately used the card — and upgraded its quality using the Dragon Fangs he had collected.

Enhancement Card (Rank E++)

Base Stat Boost: 10% → 16%

After raising his enhancement level by two "+" ranks, Bai Qiu had almost completely used up all the Dragon Fang in his backpack.

If he wanted to upgrade further to D-rank, it would require three rare-quality Dragon Fang and one E-rank enhancement card—materials that the Dragonfang Soldiers at his current level no longer dropped.

With this level of improvement, Bai Qiu's jumping height was now nearly two meters, and his strength and agility had risen to D-.

He could now completely crush Dragonfang Soldiers.

Without hesitation, he dashed out of the street and onto the highway, launching a surprise attack on a group of Dragonfang Soldiers.

With his current speed and power, he could take them down before they even reacted—instant kills.

The Dragonfang Soldiers, who had been searching the highway for their targets, noticed someone approaching them and immediately rushed toward Bai Qiu one after another.

But such small groups could no longer threaten him.

Before they could surround him, he would always tear open a gap and cut them down one by one.

While killing the Dragonfang Soldiers, Bai Qiu also sprinted toward P City's central square.

It was only natural that there would be more monsters there since it attracted more people—but his true destination was the Era Tower that stood beside the square…
