Chapter 1 - Chapter one: am alive...right?

"Stella, if you so much as walk out of this room, we are finished. You walk away you'll make this impossible to come back from."

My voice cracked before I realized it.

My legs shook like someone ready to collapse.

My eyes redder than beetroots as I stared at her ugly smirk on her face. Then she laughed, a cold, brittle sound. "Hee… hehe… heh."

"What has gotten into you, Brandon?" she asked, voice flat, like she already decided the verdict.

I swallowed. My throat felt like sandpaper. "Come back begging." I didn't mean for it to escape, but I said it anyway like a challenge to the empty room.

For a moment, silence. Then I exploded:

"COME BACK BEGGING! You think you can throw words around like they're shields?

I gave up everything.... for you! My friends who cared, my dreams left gathering dust, double shifts so you could have what you want! Two years, Stella... two freeking years and for what!

And this is what I get?"

She leaned forward.

"Second chances? You don't even see what you lost. Me. Everything. And now I'm done."

My fists went limp. My heart pounded so loud I thought I'd hear it in her silence. As she turned toward the door, I realized: I may have already lost it all.

As Stella reaches the handle, her phone buzzes.

She glances at it, then back at me with a smile I couldn't understand.

one that didn't belong to her.

"You were never the only one," she says, and the smile becomes a knife.

you were never the only one. you were never the only one.

Her words kept playing over and over on my head as if they were ancient records on a vintage tape.

Each spin infusing rejuiced series of pain

I looked at my tear socked blazer then to my dust filled bag as the sharp pangs kept attacking my heart simultaneosly.

looking up at the star filled night sky...

"Am in pain mum.."
