"Sing praises~"

"Thank the Goddess for the light bestowed~"

"Marvels of life~"

"At the great radiance of the Goddess~"

"Rejoice~"

"The beautiful world created by the Goddess allows us to live happily~"

The pilgrims sang with the unique melody of religion.

Light and color, vibrant hues, swirled and inverted before the young man's eyes.

Noise and whispers chattered incessantly, as if a grand ritual was taking place.

"What is this commotion?"

The young man grumbled discontentedly.

Suddenly!

Everything, absolutely everything, disappeared!

Everything around him became eerily quiet!

"W-what's wrong?"

It was like being called upon in class, all eyes now fixed on him.

The sudden silence brought Yulian great discomfort.

Yulian instantly regretted it; he still opened his eyes.

Inside a resplendent palace, he now sat high on a luxurious throne, with handsome men and enchanting women below the hall bowing in unison.

"Welcome, our King's ascension."

Ascending as King in another world?

Inside the wooden house, Yulian opened his eyes, slightly resisting the dazzling sunlight. After adjusting, he stared blankly at the ceiling.

Yulian, a young man of the 21st century, became valedictorian during his school years. After graduating from university and entering society, he worked diligently, a typical excellent employee.

Finally, during an all-night document sorting session, he died suddenly and transmigrated to another world – Frieren: Beyond Journey's End.

He was very "lucky" to have transmigrated into the Big Boss, the Demon King.

Frieren the Slayer, waiting for his death...

Hiss!

Yulian didn't consider himself a great intellect, so waiting to die in the Demon King's Castle was naturally something he wouldn't do.

Thus, before the Hero and his party attacked the Demon King's Castle, Yulian had already changed his appearance and entered the human world to live in seclusion.

By now, it had been almost ten years, but in these fifty years, the scene of his ascension had been dreamt of countless times.

Speaking of dreams, Yulian was more inclined to believe that his five hundred and ten years of life since transmigrating were more like a dream.

He had seen vast changes over time and experienced things no longer being the same.

He had been a Demon King, living in extravagance and indulging in pleasures, and also a vagrant, living aimlessly with no fixed abode. Yulian felt both gains and losses, yet was content with the present.

A wonderful life, sometimes triumphant, sometimes melancholic. Yulian couldn't tell for a moment what was illusion and what was reality.

"Brother Yulian, time to get up~"

A sweet girl's voice rang out, and a playful figure flashed by the window.

Then came the "knock knock knock~" sound of knocking on the door.

"Coming."

Yulian rolled out of bed, casually put on his outer clothes, and opened the door to see a small girl with pink hair.

"Nico, why are you here?"

"Did something happen?"

As he spoke, Yulian's eyes involuntarily looked at the sword placed by the bed.

"No, no!"

Nico waved her hands repeatedly, her eyes constantly glancing into the room.

"Grandma asked me to bring some fruit to Brother Yulian,"

"She said, thank you for helping chase away the mountain bandits yesterday."

Nico said as she walked into the room. Her eyes lit up for a moment, then she pretended to discover the sword's existence by chance and cried out in delight.

"Brother Yulian, this is the legendary Hero's Sword, right!"

"Let me see!"

Unfortunately, Nico's little trick was seen through by Yulian.

Yulian grabbed Nico like a little chick and placed her outside, then carefully locked the door before explaining.

"That's just a replica, a gift from a merchant I helped on my travels."

"But I saw it with my own eyes yesterday!"

"I saw with my own eyes that I used it to chase away the mountain bandits."

Yulian continued Nico's words, then rolled his eyes as Nico nodded vigorously.

"That only proves that I am a chivalrous Hero, not that it is the legendary Hero's Sword, okay?"

"But, but..."

"Alright, silly child."

Yulian stroked Nico's hair, a smile on his face.

"Let's go find Granny Anneliese. Aren't we still harvesting pumpkins today..."

Yulian's house was at the foot of the mountain, on the edge of the Village. Since settling here as an adventurer, he had taken on the important task of protecting the Village.

His powerful strength meant that the occasional wild beasts or mountain bandits from the mountain who wanted to take advantage of the Village couldn't get past Yulian.

In return, the villagers would deliver some food to Yulian every so often.

As for other daily necessities, Yulian would occasionally accept requests from the Village doctor to collect herbs in the mountains, fetch water at home, and so on. The copper coins earned were enough to sustain his life.

Yulian's house was not far from Granny Anneliese's house, which was also at the foot of the mountain. Crossing a few field paths, a small wooden house slightly larger than Yulian's appeared before Yulian in less than a few minutes.

However, Yulian squinted his eyes at the figure in the wooden house's small yard, a slight sense of unease rising in his heart.

"Little Yulian, you're here!"

In the small yard, Granny Anneliese was chatting with a visitor. Seeing Yulian arrive, she couldn't help but wave to Yulian, greeting him happily.

Yulian noticed a cart full of pumpkins already piled high in a corner of the small yard.

"Grandma!"

Yulian pursed his lips and smiled after greeting her, then looked at the woman beside him.

White twin tails, wearing a white robe with gold trim. Yulian muttered under his breath, a bad feeling rising in his heart.

"Grandma, who is this Miss?"

Nico hopped over to Yulian and sized up the woman.

The woman's expression was cool and serious, her lack of smiles making Nico put away her playfulness.

"Mm-hmm, this is Miss Frieren."

"Thanks to her, this autumn's pumpkins were collected in no time."

Granny Anneliese's smile was very bright. She then introduced Yulian and Nico.

"This is Yulian, the guardian of the Village. He used to be an adventurer."

"This is my granddaughter, Nicole. You can just call her Nico."

"Yulian?"

Frieren nodded to Granny Anneliese, then looked at Yulian, her eyes cold.

Did she figure it out?

Yulian held his breath, secretly preparing his defenses.

Frieren was always merciless towards the Demon Clan.

However, there was no mana leakage, nor any Demon Clan characteristics. How did Frieren discover him?

"I heard Granny Anneliese talk about you. You chased away the mountain bandits yesterday."

"Thumbs up for you."

(=ω=)

Frieren was momentarily stunned, then a smile of admiration appeared on her face.

Yulian, on the other hand, breathed a sigh of relief and waved his hand, silently complaining in his heart: So she was thinking about how to praise me. I thought I had been very careful about keeping my identity a secret, so how did I get exposed?

"Did this big sister pick all these pumpkins?"

"So amazing!"

Nico pointed at the pumpkin cart loaded in the corner of the yard, little stars in her eyes.

Frieren smiled slightly and nodded.

"It was done with Magic."

The next second, Frieren seemed to remember something, her emerald green eyes couldn't help but look at Yulian, her gaze sharp.
