Chapter 1 - Chapter 1. The first light

The savage war that lasted for decades and eventually even a century finally came to an end.

The war broke almost every law of the world, Many of the heavenly principles that were known as the undying gods of the world met their fateful end at the hands of land-dwellers during the century-long war.

The land-dwellers, also known as the mortals of the middle-world who were known as the powerless life forms all across the world of Zephandor, received powers that matched even the so-called gods of the world. With their newfound powers, the mortals fought to their deaths to protect the place they once called home.

During the century-long bloodshed between the gods and the mortals, the hellhounds surprisingly stayed silent and didn't participate in the war at all. Well, it may sound irrational at first but given the backstabbing nature of the hellhounds, they liked attacking their enemies only when their victories were guaranteed and the situation called for the perfect opportunity for the hellhounds to end their eternal nemesis, the heavenly principles. But they, for some unknown reasons refrained.

The world of Zephandor wept as its rain fell to the mortal realm, landing on the battlefield alongside the last drop of blood from the final standing mortal. This brave soul had fought against the gods of the world, leaving a mark on the battleground as their presence faded.

The ones who fought back, the ones who emitted courage were brutally killed at the hands of the gods until the very last of the ones who had attained powers were wiped off the face of the world, completely. It was when the tyranny of the gods started and to this very day, 777 years later, the god's tyranny still reigns in its parade on the mortal world.

/In the mortal world, the Nation of Alexandria/

It was when the heavens rested, that the mortal world would see the sunrise.

The nation of Alexandria was the first one to be struck by the first sunlight of the day but it had been so long since the mortals came face to face with the sunlight that it momentarily blinded them.

The middle-world world which had been consumed by darkness for who knows how long had been finally embraced by light.

When the people of the nation of Alexandria finally regained their vision, the world seemed completely different from just yesterday. The nation wasn't in any way massive as it was one of the smaller nations so, the whole nation lit up in more ways than one in just a matter of minutes.

/In the central city, Mourndell/

The first sunlight of the day shined brightly across the nation and eventually reached the central or also the main city of the nation of Alexandria known as Mourndell.

In the main city, followed by the sunlight different voices of many individuals in the city could be heard. Their voices were filled with joy as the warmth of the first sunlight gently caressed their pale skin after a very long time.

"Mother!! What is this!? This thing that shines like the fire in our house. But it is very much brighter than the fire in our house. It's..... Scary!"

Among the many voices that could be heard across the main city, the voice of a young child stood out more than the others as it sounded very distressed.

"Ohh my child — Her voice was shaky, almost on the verge of tears — These damned gods of this world who took everything from us and made middle-world a living hell. I curse you-"

Her words were put to an abrupt end as the hand of her husband sealed her mouth tightly as if he was preventing her from saying something she shouldn't.

"Don't!! Layla, get a hold of yourself! You already know what will happen if we were to get caught speaking ill of the gods. Divine Mercy will strike us down, alongside our child!"

Almost whispering, but not quite exactly. The husband spoke quietly and in a shaky voice as well.

Upon hearing his words, Layla came to her senses as she glanced towards her child. Her eyes filled with tears while tightly hugging her child.

The couple and their child had just departed from their house to feel the first sunlight after such a long time but it almost became their last. The other people besides the couple who had similar reasons as the couple to be outside were staring at them nervously because if the husband hadn't prevented it, another pair of couple would have been the unfortunate victims of the divine mercy.

Distracting the focus of the people from the couple, their focus shifted toward the sound everyone had been dying to hear. The sound came from inside the prime cathedral, it didn't sound perfect, more like a sound that was decaying and was barely audible but still, the moment this sound blessed the ears of the people of the main city, specifically the ones who had gathered outside their houses to feel the sunlight Felt comfort and relief.

The sound went something like this.

"Fear... Don't fear it! Darkness lingers only for so long because even the- the darkest night will eventually turn into a warm embrace of the first sunlight, led... Led by the knight... Who doesn't smile."

/Inside the prime cathedral/

The sound that brought comfort and relief sounded louder and echoed all over inside the cathedral. The cathedral was completely empty and dead silent, excluding the comforting sound.

The cathedral hadn't been used for a very long time and the cobwebs and dust that could be found all over the place hinted towards the fact. Only a small portion of little strings of light entered the cathedral because most of the windows were blocked by all the dust and cobwebs.

The small portion of the light that entered the cathedral made it very hard to view the cathedral from the windows and since going inside the cathedral was not allowed, every time this mysterious sound which brought a sense of relief and comfort to the people of the main city was heard, they enjoyed the sound without prying further about it.

A young boy who had been attracted to the sound and was very curious about the origin of the sound came close to one of the many windows of the cathedral. Curiously, he peeked inside the window in hopes of locating the thing that had been producing the comforting sound but unfortunately, he couldn't see anything inside.

A curious mind can't be stopped, this young boy was one of the examples of that sentence. He kept changing windows, one after another in hopes of seeing at least a little bit of what was inside the cathedral, and eventually, he ended up finding a window where a small portion of the window was broken, allowing the young boy to peek inside.

He had hopes of seeing something magical and otherworldly which had been producing this comforting sound the entire time but the moment his eyes saw the dark room, he immediately backed off as quickly as he could.

His body started trembling and cold sweat dripped down his forehead while trying to process just what horror he had witnessed.
