Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Goodbye All My Fortune

Nice to meet you all. My name is Suzuka Jozenji.

The Nikkei average stock price is plunging

I turned thirty this year. I never really cared much about my age, but reaching the milestone of thirty, I am just surprised at how fast time flies, wondering if I am already this old.

The rate of this decline is historically unprecedented, with momentum surpassing the Lehman shock

Even after turning thirty, my living environment has not changed much. I go to the office, and when I come home I play games, watch videos on streaming services, or fiddle with my smartphone, living the same uneventful days.

Along with this, the yen appears to be accelerating its appreciation. Recorded a year on day gain of 18 yen compared to the previous day

Oh yes. Just when I thought this unchanging life would continue, life suddenly changed completely.

Aha aha My balance ended up like this

A man losing his sanity with tears streaming down his face yet somehow wearing a smile. Yes, that is me. I am Suzuka Jozenji.

The morning news on TV was reporting a crash surpassing the Lehman shock, the smartphone on my desk was sounding alerts about the risk of forced liquidation due to market fluctuations, and my computer screen displayed a profit and loss situation too painful to look at directly. Everything surrounding Suzuka tightened his stomach and gave him an unpleasant feeling of acid rising.

A single man with no expensive hobbies. Left alone, his savings had grown considerably. It all started when he began asset management simply because he did not want to work. At first he left it to mutual funds because he did not understand things well, but gradually watching his assets fluctuate became interesting, and before he knew it he had started day trading and ended up with FX.

In the beginning his trades were small. But he got heated trying to recover his losses, increased his leverage, and that happened to work well resulting in a big win that was the start of everything or rather the beginning of the end.

Piroorin

His smartphone rang and a new notification appeared on the screen. It said Your position has been liquidated. This meant Because your FX losses have exceeded your balance, we are forcibly closing your position. Simply put, you lost so much on FX that we are setting your balance to zero.

He shifted his gaze to the screen and saw that the balance column, which had once shone with over ten million yen, now displayed a hollow 334 yen, a figure below four digits.

He could not think of anything. Days of being tossed around by recent market movements, trying to cover losses only to have them pile up. For the first time he experienced the world warping and his blood running cold. It is still okay. I can still do this. I just need to win it back next time. It is definitely going to rise from here. He believed that and was betrayed. The market moved opposite to his bets. He seriously wondered if someone was watching him and manipulating the market, and he felt like he was going insane.

And then today s liquidation.

He lost everything.

Despair.

He had been so giddy thinking he might even achieve early retirement through FIRE, so now he was hit by deep lethargy.

But strangely, there was also a part of him that felt relieved. He was forcibly shut out of a life that had been dominated by FX, a life where he had stared intently at charts, woken up multiple times during the night to check the market on his smartphone, and suffered tunnel vision. The mixture of lethargy and relief was probably why tears kept flowing while his mouth inexplicably turned upward.

Without wiping away the freely flowing tears, he picked up his smartphone and called his workplace.

Good morning. This is Jozenji. Is this the section chief?

Oh, Jozenji. What is it? You haven t come in yet. Are you feeling unwell?

Yes, that s it. I don t have a fever, but I feel a kind of lethargy or severe fatigue. Please let me take the day off.

Are you okay? I approve your leave. Were there any tasks that needed to be handled today?

No, work is fine.

Got it. You have seemed off lately. Rest well. Take care.

Thank you very much. Goodbye.

Even though it was a sudden day off, he kindly agreed. I am grateful for this white company and my boss.

He placed his smartphone on the desk, put his hands on the armrests, and raised his body. He really had no strength and somehow managed to stand up while staggering and headed to the bed.

I am so unsteady. I haven t been able to sleep properly lately either. Maybe after I wake up I will play a game for the first time in a while.

Not only sleep, but due to worsening stomach pain he had lost his appetite and had not been able to eat properly. Suzuka s body was at its limit. He lay down on the bed as if collapsing, thought about his game that had started gathering dust, and quietly fell asleep.
