February 4th, 2024 — the date of one of the most horrific and devastating crimes ever committed worldwide: the bloody massacre that took place at Península High School in Porto Alegre, Brazil.
It was the deadliest school massacre of the century, with over 900 victims, including students, teachers, and staff. The impact of this atrocity sent shockwaves around the globe.
The perpetrators behind such brutality were never identified. The only survivors were five high school students — four of whom had been in the restroom at the time of the attack. According to their accounts, everything happened suddenly and without warning: when they stepped out of the restroom, located at the far left end of the first floor, they found only lifeless bodies and a horrifying amount of blood smeared across the school's walls.
The only survivor who was directly present during the massacre was a young man named Louie Kaede. Before the tragedy, Louie had black hair and blue eyes; now, his hair showed streaks of white, his right eye had turned red, and his skin had become unnaturally pale.
Doctors attributed the white streaks in his hair to the intense stress and trauma experienced during the event. As for the change in his right eye, it was diagnosed as ocular damage that developed into heterochromia.
His testimony was considered the key to any potential investigation. However, surviving such a tragedy without lasting consequences would have required a miracle. Louie was diagnosed with post-traumatic amnesia, a condition in which the brain blocks memories related to a traumatic event.
For Louie, this meant losing... everything.
