Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Secret of Troll Regeneration

Gale Morninglight had never thought that he would one day conduct human experiments.

Although the subjects of his research were not humans!

They were still intelligent beings; they were Trolls.

"Despicable Dark Trolls, have you forgotten the glory of your ancestors—"

The Troll roared and lunged at Gale, his hands chained, but he still strained his neck, aiming his sharp fangs at Gale's throat.

However, Gale was not afraid in the slightest, nor did he even desire to use magic to seal the Troll's foul-smelling mouth.

Guided by magic, a small knife flew over and cut a piece of flesh from the Troll's body. Before the meat could fall to the ground, it was caught by a floating copper plate and transported to a nearby experimental table.

Gale walked to the experimental table and began the experiment according to the steps.

He sliced the meat into thin pieces, placed them on a glass slide, then dripped a staining solution on them, and observed them under a microscope. The stained Troll cells showed incredibly strong vitality; they continuously reproduced and regenerated.

Gale picked up a pair of tweezers and sprinkled some powder onto the meat slice.

The active cells under the microscope immediately slowed down and completely stopped after a few seconds.

Gale joyfully grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down his experimental notes.

A few days later, a paper titled "The Secret of Troll Regeneration" was freshly published:

Through ten thousand experiments, I discovered that the cells cut from Trolls still possessed incredibly strong reproductive capabilities, but the cells quickly lost their vitality when sliced into thin pieces. When two pieces of devitalized slices were brought close, they would regain vitality and burst forth with even stronger reproductive capabilities.

Clearly, there is a substance within the Troll's body that gives their cells an incredibly strong regenerative ability. And the more cellular tissue aggregates, the stronger this regenerative ability becomes.

Through magical analysis, an energy, temporarily named Regeneration Factor, was discovered within Troll cells.

I implanted the Regeneration Factor into injured experimental subjects and found that the effects produced were not the same across different organisms.

In ordinary organisms, the effect of the Regeneration Factor was very small.

In organisms with strong self-healing abilities, the effect of the Regeneration Factor was more pronounced, and the stronger the self-healing ability, the more obvious the effect of the Regeneration Factor.

However, all organisms could not compare to the effect observed in Trolls.

I used the Regeneration Factor to heal Trolls, instantly curing their wounds. Even if their heads were cut off or their hearts pierced, they could be instantly healed. As long as not too much time passed, Trolls could be completely revived.

This effect, however, could not be achieved in other organisms. The Regeneration Factor could only heal other organisms, not revive them.

To find a substance that inhibits the Regeneration Factor, I successively tried 1246 plants and minerals and conducted 4836 experiments. Finally, I found a metal called Carbon, and after 100 more experiments, proved its ability to inhibit the Regeneration Factor.

Delianna, a mentor at Nathalas Academy, was reviewing students' graduation theses one by one. These theses would determine the future development of these students, so she had to be cautious.

Because she also needed to verify the correctness of the theses, her review was very slow.

Some experiments she had done before, but for the sake of rigor, she would redo them. However, these familiar experiments were quickly completed, and she would assign scores based on the difficulty of the experiment and the thesis's viewpoint.

These students had stable personalities, choosing experiments that predecessors had done, which guaranteed graduation. Of course, there were also some more outstanding arguments, such as Sethonisproposing a new rune combination that could enhance the properties of weapon-making materials.

Therefore, Delianna gave Sethonis a high score.

There were also some students who liked to challenge themselves, choosing cutting-edge fields that predecessors had not explored. Delianna greatly admired such students, and as long as their experiments could be verified, she would give relatively higher scores.

However, Gale's "The Secret of Troll Regeneration" made Delianna a bit perplexed.

Gale's argument was extremely novel and currently very helpful to the Empire.

Due to territorial expansion, the Kaldorei Empire and the Trolls had been in constant conflict. Relying on their incredibly strong regenerative ability, the Trolls forced the Kaldorei Empire to commit tens of thousands of troops. For the Kaldorei Empire, which had only a few hundred thousand people, this was already an immense burden.

If a way to counter the Trolls' regenerative ability could truly be found, it could completely free the Kaldorei Empire from the quagmire of war.

The moment she saw the paper, Delianna wanted to verify its authenticity. But when she saw the steps in Gale's paper, she couldn't proceed.

She didn't know what equipment the slides and microscope mentioned in Gale's paper were, nor did she know what body tissue Gale was referring to as cells.

Having no other option, she could only go to Gale's laboratory.

Gale was discussing weapon enchanting with Sethonis. The reason Gale chose to write this paper was to create weapons to fight the Trolls. As a transmigrator, he knew too well the importance of peaceful development.

Although war can drive technological advancement, when a country falls into the quagmire of war, its economy will decline. War is fought with economy, and without an economy, the Kaldorei Empire could only fill the void with lives.

And what the Kaldorei Empire lacked most was population.

Gale found the material to inhibit the Trolls' regenerative ability, while Sethonis found a rune set and enchanting method that could enhance material properties. Combining the two could allow for mass production of weapons to fight Trolls. This would give ordinary soldiers the ability to kill Trolls, thereby defeating the tenacious Trolls.

Delianna's arrival interrupted their discussion. "Gale, I need to use your laboratory to verify your paper."

"Of course!"

Gale introduced the experimental equipment he had made to Delianna, and then explained the terminology in the paper to her.

He had deliberately not marked these in the paper to attract Delianna's attention.

This way, the experimental equipment he made could quickly become popular in Nathalas Academy, and he could also make a fortune from it.

How could one conduct experiments without money?

Sethonis gave Gale a look, and Gale nodded, signaling him to rest assured.

Delianna repeated the experiment three times before finally breathing a sigh of relief.

She said with satisfaction, "Gale, your paper is flawless. I will report to the Dean. I believe the Dean will definitely introduce you to Prince Farodis."

Prince Farodis was the highest leader of Nathalas Academy and Queen Azshara's most trusted advisor. If he approved Gale's paper, then Gale's idea of creating weapons to fight Trolls would be realized.

In fact, Prince Farodis might even recommend Gale to Queen Azshara. Once Azshara accepted Prince Farodis's recommendation, Gale would have the opportunity to become a Royal Mage and own a magic tower in the Empire's capital.

Owning a magic tower was the dream of all ordinary mages, and all mages who owned a magic tower had another dream—to study the Well of Eternity.

The magic towers of Sin'dorei were located around the Well of Eternity.
