Synopsis
Blood is overflowing in Shanghai. The city has been rocked by an increase of heinous killings and high-profile thefts. An underground syndicate, headed by a vicious mastermind who aspires to take complete control of the city, is hidden behind the mayhem. Here comes Shadow Death, a secret strike force put together to find murderers, take down gangs, and prevent Shanghai from descending into chaos. Li Wei, a young but combat-experienced leader in his twenties, is at its head. He is tall, strong, and unwaveringly determined; he carries the weight of authority along with its strength. Despite being the team's youngest member, he leads the battle thanks to his strategic thinking and unwavering determination. At his side: Quick with her hands and sharp with her wit, Zhang Mei is the medic who saves lives in the field. Chen Hao is the unwavering warrior who is devoted to the end and has steely fists. Lin Xia is a strategist whose intellect is more acute than any weapon. The bomb expert Wu Jian is rash, intelligent, and lethal when it comes to explosives. The weapon master, Yin Yue, is composed, deadly, and unrivaled in battle. They form the last line of defense for the city. However, their adversary is not your typical gang; rather, it is a horde of murderers, bandits, and hired guns who are all enslaved by a single, vicious boss whose shadow hangs over every Shanghai street. Shadow Death responds when innocent people's blood spills. Failure is also not an option.

Chapter 1 - Shadow Death is formed

The rays from the sun have dawned upon the skyline of Shanghai. Following the sunrays, they entered a huge building, which had a police logo embedded on top of the building indicating that it's the headquarters of Shanghai Police, wherein in the top floor office there were two high-ranking officers; one was sitting in the commissioner's chair, and the other was the head of the police department of Shanghai. "There has been another murder, and again the logo was found near the site," said the head of the police department. "Is it another Scorpion logo?" asked the commissioner. "Yes, sir, and we need to get some answers to the public; the people of Shanghai are getting impatient."

The commissioner sighed in his chair, and then after thinking for some time, he suddenly sat upright, and he looked at the police department head and asked, "Han, I forgot to ask you, when is he returning back from Japan?" Han answered, "He will reach by afternoon, sir." The commissioner spoke: "Perfect, send him to me as soon as he enters the building." Han nodded and left the room.

Time passed, and it's now noon. The door of Han's office flew open, and a 6'2" broad-shouldered man with a muscular build, jet-black hair, a sharp jawline, and piercing steel-gray eyes walked in. "Mission complete, Mr. Han," said the man who entered. "Li Wei, how many times have I told you to call me 'sir' and not 'Mr.'?" Han said. Han continues, "Anyways, forget about all this and go to the commissioner's office; he was calling for you." Li Wei nodded and left Han's office.

Li knocked and entered the office on the top floor. "Ah Li, you are finally here. I have called you for an important case. Do you know about the Scorpion logo left on the recent murder and theft cases in Shanghai? We are having no results. You are our best detective. I am giving you permission to make a squad of your choice. The name of the squad and members of the squad will be of your choice. Everything is your decision; even I cannot interfere, and you will be assigned to all of the cases, and you will take up all the cases as soon as they find a scorpion logo on the crime scene, understood?" "Yes, Mr. Chen, understood. Well, I have the exact people in mind for this job." Li replied.

"Who are they, Li?" Asked Chen, Li answered, "There are 5 people. First is Zhang Mei; she is a former military field doctor, now running a small clinic. Second is Chen Hao, a police officer who is an ex-martial artist champion. Third is Lin Xia; she is specialized in criminal profiling and is an excellent strategist. Fourth is Wu Jian; he is a bomb specialist but was dishonorably discharged for disobeying orders to save a civilian. Fifth is Yin Yue, daughter of an infamous weapons dealer who turned her back to fight crime."

"Are you sure about them? They don't seem special and are known to not obey orders, and they probably won't take orders from a 25-year-old leader." Said Chen, to which Li replied, "Don't worry about them; they will listen to command. I have fought together with them while I served for a year in the army."

"Anyways, I will take my leave, Mr. Chen, and will send you the location of our base, and you can meet our team there." Li said that and left.

After getting out of the office, Li went straight to Zhang's clinic in a small alleyway in the outskirts of Shanghai. As soon as he entered the clinic, he could see small children to old people, and everyone was waiting for their turn to get treated. Li waited till the clinic was empty and entered. He was greeted by a slender but strong-built posture with long black hair, which was tied in a braid, and she looked at Li with her sharp green eyes.

She told her assistant to leave the clinic and sat opposite of Li and said, "If you are here, that means you want me to participate in some mission. Let me tell you my answer: I have left that in my past, and I won't be taking any part in your mission." Li smiled and said, "You didn't tell me to leave, so you want to hear what the mission is, so I will get straight to the point: it's the Scorpion gang. We are taking them down, and I cannot do it without your help."

Zhang sighed and said, "Let me guess, you are bringing everyone else too. Fine. "Fuck it, I am in. When and where do I meet you?" "I will send you the location and time via text; I need to go meet everyone else." Li said that and left the clinic and went straight to a martial arts dojo.

Li stood in front of a martial arts dojo named Blade Hall. Li entered and could see around 60 small kids practicing martial arts. As Li noticed the office, he started moving towards it. He was stopped before he could reach the door; a tall, huge-build man stopped him and asked him, "Where do you think you are going?" to which Li answered, "To your master's office." The man started laughing and said, "Our master doesn't meet anyone like you, so turn around and get back, or fight with me, and if you win, you can meet the master."

He said that and took a stance ready to fight. Li just smiled, and as Li was about to take a stance, the door of the office opened, and out came a huge man with a scarred face and a shaved head. He came forward, looked at the man, and said, "Fan, don't try to fight this man; you will lose instantly before you even lift a finger." Li smiled and hugged him and said, "How are you? It's been long, Chen Hao."

Chen Hao smiled and said, "Indeed, Captain." He waved a hand, and everyone emptied the area they were standing in. After everyone left, Chen Hao spoke, "Is it about Scorpion Gang?" to which Li just nodded, and Chen spoke, "I am in; let me know when and where we meet." Li nodded, smiled, tapped his shoulder, and left the dojo. After he left, Fan came back and asked Chen, "Who is he, master? He is so young, but you showed him respect," to which Chen replied, "Let me say it in simpler terms: he is the strongest man in China. He knows every martial art, every fighting style; heck, he can even defeat me in under a minute."

Outside the dojo, Li sat on his motorcycle and left for the National University of Shanghai. As he parked his motorcycle and went inside, he saw young individuals, some of whom were of his age, and he found his way to the staff room. He knocked and entered where there were different teachers of different subjects. He spotted the person he was looking for; on his way to her desk, he grabbed a paper and pen and wrote, "Scorpion Gang is back; we are back to finish it once and for all." He reached her desk, where he saw a coat and an ID hanging, which read Lin Xia. She was the brain of the squad, an elite strategist who looked elegant, wore glasses, and had sharp features and always dressed formally.

He put the note down; she looked at the note and then looked at him, stood up, hugged him, and said, "Good to see you after so long, Captain." Li smiled and said, "You too, Xia. Let's talk later; I will text you the location and time." Xia nodded and smiled. Li left again on his motorcycle, and he headed towards downtown, where there were tall buildings and offices. He headed towards a tall building and entered it on the 120th floor.

He stopped in front of a house and rang the bell. The door camera could see who it was at the door, and suddenly the door opened, and out came a woman running, and she hugged Li and said, "You are finally here. Where were you?" Li smiled and answered, "Well, I was on a holiday, and now I am back, or should I say we are back." Li came inside to the living room and hugged the women and said, "I am so sorry about before, Yin Yue. I had to leave, and it is a long story, which I would tell you all about later. I just want to say I missed you way too much." Li came closer and held her face and went in to kiss her, but before he could, Yin Yue moved away.

She said, "You were gone for 5 years, Li. I couldn't find you anywhere, so all I did after waiting was to move on." She put her hand forward and showed him a ring and said, "I am sorry, Li; I am now engaged, and my wedding is next month." Li stumbled back and smiled and said, "I am sorry, Yue; I didn't know. Anyways, I came to tell you that we are back and will be meeting soon; I will text you the location and address later." Li said that and left. As he was leaving, Yue spotted a tear forming in his eyes and thought to herself, "Li, what were you doing for the last 5 years? You now have tears in your eyes."

Li left the building and sat on his motorcycle and sighed hard and left downtown for the outskirts of Shanghai, to the area with broken and old buildings. He stopped his motorcycle in front of a broken shop; he banged on the shop door only to have it opened by a lean, weary-looking man with messy hair. He also had gloves in his hand, which he never removed. The man saw who was at the door, removed the gloves, and hugged him and said, "Captain, you are back." Li came inside and said, "Yes, and I am here to end the war with the Scorpion gang, Wu Jian." Wu Jian went inside and told Li to follow him and said, "Let me guess, this is our base?" Li nodded and said, "For some time, until our real base is ready." Wu nodded and said, "Let me guess, I need to send messages to everyone for tomorrow, this place, and 7 AM?" "Yes, and also send a text to the commissioner. Till tomorrow, I am going to crash on your bed." Li went to his bed and slept till the next day.

Li was woken up by noise; he stood up from the bed to find everyone had arrived at the spot. Li went ahead, got freshened up, and came out. Zhang Mei told Li to sit down as she brought breakfast. As they sat for breakfast and ate, they laughed and remembered old stories. The door flew open, and they found the commissioner standing. He came inside and asked Li, "Are we ready now, Li?" Li took a bite and answered, "Yes, Mr. Chen, and as I said, this is the squad, and the name of the squad to defeat Scorpion Gang is Shadow Death."
