Chapter 1 - Getting Tossed into Deep Waters

When I died, I expected peace or maybe nothingness. I was even excited to know whether or not heaven was real at all. I expected a lot of things, so to my surprise, all I got was this searing pain.

Blinding, searing agony was all I could feel as what felt like my flesh and body twisted into odd angles. Ever nerve felt like it's burning, as if it was trying to burn away what was there and then replace it.

My bones were next, as I could feel them being melted off and then bursting out of my skin, hardening almost instantly as they replaced my skin.

This took about god knows how long, as I waited in sheer agony for it to end. I pray and beg to who knows what to stop what was happening, finally. I wasn't even mad or surprised that nothing answered back.

Why was I even doing this? Of course, in sheer despair and agony, anyone would do the same, be they good or bad. But what came next made me fall even deeper.

Memories that were precious and not slipped out of my mind like grains of sand as each one slowly faded away.

During that time, I had been forced to forget everything I had ever known about myself.

My name, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, friends, everything that used to be there is gone. All that's left is who I am and how I should act.

I would have cried right there and then, but all I could muster was to cry in anguish in my mind. I had lost everything that I once held dear.

I cursed whoever sick mind it was to have left me able to realize this.

No sooner than that, I began to go insane...until I became bored with it. But I still curse whoever did this to me.

There I was, finally accepting what had happened to me, only to be slapped in the face by something I was not expecting at all.

Water, and not just any water, it was seawater/ocean water, as the taste of it all suddenly forced its way into my mouth. This jolted my brain to spit it all out as my arms and legs thrashed about in the water.

It took me a while to realize a couple of things as I was supposedly drowning. One, I was not affected by the water flowing down my throat at all; two, I finally felt something was awfully wrong with my arms and legs, and last but not least, something was wrong with what I am finally right now.

It felt like my whole body was now rock hard and stiff, almost like I was wearing a suit of armor. Even though my arms felt stiff, they felt like they were more powerful than ever. As for my legs, as in plural as I finally felt that I had more than the usual pair. I could feel about 3 pairs of legs, but it felt like they were longer than they should be.

The same goes for my hands as same as my hands, they felt stiff yet held more strength than they used to have.

Lastly, something that I now realize as I look around now that my vision seems to have come back to me. For some odd and weird reason, I could see in perfect 360 degrees. I was also able to see a few parts of my body, as well as what had happened to me.

What I had described as what has been happening to me seems to be accurate, a bit, since my hands did turn into claws, my legs did turn longer and pointier. Skin became something I knew was a carapace, a steel grey carapace that is that look similar to rusted iron.

My body, on the other hand, looked a bit rigged oval, lined with spikes at the sides.

This was when I finally realized that I wasn't human anymore, no, I became something way different than that.

I was reborn into a demonic-looking crustacean, or crab, in other words.

This caused me to feel so many emotions of pain, hate, sadness, and yet bits of amazement and joy that I didn't notice that by the time I was checking my new form out, it suddenly turned darker as the minutes passed. Yet it might have been something with my eyes or the fact that it's possibly because of it being the ones like a crustacean's. But I was sure that it was slowly getting darker and darker until I finally noticed a was beside me.

That was when I finally remembered that I was underwater in a sea or ocean. The lowest depth was about a couple of feet taller than some of the tallest buildings in the world.

Fear soon forced its way up front as I once more trashed about trying to think of a way to stop my descent, as I didn't know if I could take it or not.

My eyes looked around, trying to find a way until I remembered that I was close to a wall.

Looking at it now, I hesitated a bit since it looked gagged, filled with spikes on it.

After a couple of deep breaths or what passed as doing so as a crab, I gathered up my courage and used my hands/claws to stop myself from falling even deeper into the abyss below me.

I could feel my claws rubbing against dense rock. But the thing was, I wasn't affected by it. Not one bit, as if I were wearing gloves, I was not harmed at all.

My fall slowed down a bit as I was submerged underwater, which seemed to cancel out my momentum. Wait, I remember a certain detail, something about water being able to stop the momentum of certain things. So I was lucky to have been falling underwater rather than I was falling towards the ground.

Welp, with luck at my side, I was able to stop a couple of meters. I even stabbed my claws against the wall so that I was secure and wouldn't accidentally fall again.

My trip up to the surface began right after trying to I try to get used to my new limbs and alien anatomy.
