Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

—Musutafu, Japan—

It was a bright, sunny day in the most secure city in Japan. Birds were chirping, and the clouds parted ways to let the sun shine its rays into the city below.

Despite all the heroes patrolling the city, and with U.A. High School located right around the corner, there were always chances for something wrong to happen. Not that anything would happen these days.

Most villains couldn't afford to risk getting sent to prison, especially in a high-risk area like Musutafu. Having the top high school located in Shizuoka Prefecture did wonders for increasing the amount of heroes patrolling the scene.

That's why a thin, plain-looking Japanese man was able to make his way over to a small park in his neighborhood without worrying, wife and son in hand.

The wife's head peaked over her husband's, her pale features and blond hair marking her as a woman of foreign descent. An unnatural pair, but in a world filled with superpowers and the supernatural, little could be said.

The moment the family reached the entrance of the park, the young boy rushed over to the playground nearby, animatedly jumping around and immediately playing with the other kids.

"I really appreciate you doing this," the mother said, tightening the grip on the man's hand. "It's not often that Renji gets to see you."

The father looked over at his offspring. His sharp jawline and faint eyebags were pronounced, but the look in his dark brown eyes were anything but stern.

A light shimmered in front of his eyes. Neurons fired in bursts of impossible clarity. The world reduced itself into equations across his vision.

"Yeah," the man finally spoke. "I figured it was necessary to spend more time with him. Most kids benefit well from exposure to different stimuli; this is just another one of them."

She slapped her husband's shoulder lightly, pushing him as a loud laugh echoed through the air.

"Oh, stop talking like that, honey," the wife laughed, happy tears floating slowly down her brilliant blue eyes. "You know better than I do that you want to be here. You're not here because your quirk told you to be here, silly."

The wiry man let out a small sigh. "Maybe you're right."

"I know I am," she laughed, tugging his sleeve. "Your quirk may make you super smart, but don't underestimate my own intelligence, Hideo."

Hideo watched as the young woman let go of his hand and quickly waltzed her way toward their son playing in the sandpit. Renji had a focused look on his face, as if he was designing a new standard for sand-made buildings.

In reality, it was just a tall mound of sand not quite resembling anything, but no doubt a massive skyscraper in his imagination. That was until Evelyn crouched down on the opposite side of the mound and started talking eagerly with her son, smiling widely and clapping her hands at the boy's achievement.

She patted the dark brown hair littered across Renji's head and pointed excitedly to the side, straight toward Hideo.

As Renji followed her hand and noticed who she was pointing at, he let out a childish grin and waved his hand rapidly.

Seeing this, Hideo's eyes softened. The shimmer from his quirk left his brown eyes, and a familiar smile echoed on his face. Today's my day off. May as well make the most of it.
