"Hey! Wake up!" Robert heard the soft melodic voice in his sleep and quickly opened his eyes, only to close them again. "Ah it's too bright." Robert said. Robert could see the bright light through his closed lids. After a few seconds, he saw the light dim a little. He then opened his eyes again and looked around. He saw that he was in a white and gold room. He saw the sides of the room had several white and gold pillars, they looked to be in the Roman style. "Oh! Good you're awake now." the soft melodic voice said. Robert turned his head towards the sound of the voice and saw a beautiful woman sitting on a throne made of gold. He couldn't really make out her features as the light surrounding her was still too bright, but he could see that she was dressed in long flowing white robes with gold and silver trim.
As soon as Robert saw the woman sitting on the throne, he stood up and slowly walked over to her. As he got closer to the throne, the light around her dimmed and her features became clearer. He saw that she had long golden hair, it was so long that it reached the floor even with her sitting on it. Her eyes were the brightest blue eyes that he'd ever seen, he could see that she had a smooth, very pretty face that would make almost any man fall for her as soon as they saw her. He could see that she would be about five feet six inches tall, and that she was of a nice medium build.
When Robert stood before the woman on the throne he asked. "Where am I? Who are you? What's going on here?" The woman smiled, and it was a sweet smile that caused the light around her to get a little brighter. "You're in the realm of the Gods because you died in your last life. I'm a Goddess of death and reincarnation. You may call me Seren. As for what is going on, you're here to see if you are deserving of being reincarnated in a new world or not." Seren answered. "I died! What do you mean I died? The last thing I remember is working at my computer, and all of a sudden, feeling extremely tired, I got up from my computer to go to bed, and the next thing I know I'm here with you asking me to wake up." Robert said indignantly, looking at Seren.
Seren looked at Robert sympathetically, before saying, "I know it's a lot to take in at once, and I'm sorry to say, but that life is over, and if I'm right you will be starting a new life, one where you can be whoever you want to be. Now let's continue with the assessment, as I don't mean to be rude, but I do have a lot of others to see today." Robert closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths to steady his nerves, or the equivalent of nerves in his current state of being. "Yes you're right. Seren, I'm sorry for overreacting. Okay, I am dead, there's nothing I can do about it now. I'll just have to accept it and move on. So what do I have to do for this assessment you mentioned?" Robert said, and asked after he had calmed down.
Seren smiled at Robert before saying. "I'm glad you're taking it so well. You'd be surprised at some of the things others have done and said at this point. I do like it when I get someone like you, who sees the bigger picture, and accepts what's happened. As for the assessment, all you need to do is stand there and let me look through your mind and memories to see what sort of life you have led." Robert nodded his head. "Okay then, and I can imagine what some of the others have said or done while standing in front of you." Robert said before closing his eyes again, thinking that it would take Seren a few minutes to look through his mind and life.
After a minute, Seren said "Okay Robert, you can open your eyes now." Robert did as she said and saw that Seren was smiling broadly at him. He then said "I take it that it's a good sign that you are smiling so broadly." Seren's smile widened as she said "Oh yes it is a good sign, Robert. From what I've seen, you have led a good life, not the best life you could've led, but still a good one. It's a life that allows me to grant you three requests, besides receiving the standard reincarnation package for anyone who comes from a world like yours, a world that has no magic left. Now I would like to tell you a little about the world you will be born into. It is a world that you would know a fair bit about, as in your memories, I saw that you call such places fantasy worlds. Worlds of magic and monsters, this is where you will be reincarnated." Seren explains, and Robert nods as a big smile spreads across his face.
"I see, that sounds great to me, Seren, so I take it that you would like to know what my three requests are." Robert replied while smiling happily. Seren nods her head and waits to hear what he will request, even though she had an idea of what his first request might be. Robert looked at the floor as he took some time to think about what requests he would make. After a few minutes of thought, he looked back up at Seren, and said. "I do not know if I am going to be able to explain this very well, but for my first request I would like to have a system like the ones I have seen and heard in many anime's, and audio-stories, but I would like this system to be an interactive A. I. system that has its own personality, I would also like it to be able to integrate all the skills, knowledge, and memories form all of my past lives. This is still only my first request. I would like the system to fully activate when I reach the age of adulthood in my new world, if that is possible."
Seren thinks about it for a little while before nodding and saying. "Yes, that's fine, and it's a good thing you said about the system activating when you become an adult, because if you had not said it, it would have been a requirement of you being able to have the system you asked for. But as you did say that, it's completely fine. However, you will not have access to all of your skills and knowledge from your past lives, as there are quite a few of them, and it would not be good for you to be too overpowered from the start of your life, so the system will be leveled, and once you meet the level requirements your skills and knowledge will be unlocked for you." Robert nodded in agreement to what Seren said, when Seren saw Robert nod she waved her delicate hand, and a silver orb of light the size of a tennis ball flew from her fingertips towards Roberts head, when it got to his head it was absorbed into him.
A short while after the silver orb entered Roberts' mind, he heard a computerized voice say. "Scanning Host." after a few seconds, the voice came back saying. "Scan complete, integrating current skills and knowledge. Skills: Basic Archery, Basic Swordsmanship, Basic Hunting, Intermediate First Aid, Basic Staff Combat, Intermediate Science, Basic Keen Sight, Basic Keen Hearing, Basic Keen Smell, Intermediate Psychic Skill, Basic Knife Combat, Intermediate Acting, Basic Stealth, Basic Spy, Intermediate Assassin, Basic Survival, Intermediate Cooking, Intermediate Crafting, Basic Woodworking, Basic Combat Sense, Basic Danger Sense, Basic Memory, Basic Herbology. Attributes: Strength, zero, Stamina, zero, Agility, zero, Magic, zero, Vitality, zero, Intelligence, two hundred thirty, Level, zero, Rank, soul."
As the system was scanning and integrating the skills it found in Roberts' mind, Robert fell to his knees clutching his head. Robert lies there while he listens to the system, telling him what skills he has and what grade they are. After a few minutes, Robert got shakily to his feet and stood before Seren again. "I didn't expect that to hurt so much, is that going to happen every time I regain my skills and knowledge?" Robert asked her. "I think it might, yes. But then you did have a lot of skills and knowledge for the system to work with. Oh! And I almost forgot I have not given you the basic reincarnation package. But seeing as you have most of what is in the package, I will give you what you are missing." Seren replied. And with another wave of her hand a small silver orb flew at Robert and absorbed into his head. The system then told Robert. "Basic magic all elements, Basic all Languages, Basic Inventory, Basic Charm of the Gods. Added."
Robert braced himself for the pain, but there was not any pain. "Hm. That wasn't so bad this time. I guess it depends on the amount of information that's being absorbed. Anyway, I know what my second request is going to be." Robert said. Seren looked at him with an expectant look, and waved her hand for him to continue. So Robert continued saying. "My second request is that until the system fully activates I would like to not get ill or severely injured in any way. I would also like to be able to heal from any injuries that I do get at a quicker rate." Seren smiled widely at Robert and waved her hand for a third time. This time a small green orb flew at Robert and was absorbed into his chest. Robert felt a warmth flow through him from where the orb entered him, the warmth flowed out to the tips of his fingers, toes and to the top of his head. "Mmmm that was quite pleasant." Robert commented.
Seren smiled at Robert. "I'm glad. So do you know what your third and final request is going to be?" Seren asked. Robert thought for a moment before answering with. " Yes, my third request. Hmm, I would like a companion, like you, to be with me, someone I can talk to about anything, someone who knows about my past lives, and helps to keep me on the right path. Yeah, that's my last request." Robert didn't actually mean what he said, and Seren was about to refuse the request when another voice was heard. This voice was light and warm. "Granted! Seren, you will be his companion, you will be fused with the system you gave him, but be aware your powers will be very limited, so be careful how and when you use them." as the voice spoke, Robert saw Seren become an orb of gold and white light. The orb then floated from the throne and into Robert. "Now you will be sent to your new life, live well and enjoy everything you can." the voice said, and everything started fading around Robert, as his vision started to darken, he could hear Seren's voice in his head screaming and yelling. "NO! NO! NO! YOU CAN NOT DO THIS, I DO NOT WANT TO BE HERE. LET ME OUT!"
Roberts' vision went completely black, and everything was quiet, it was as if Robert was floating in a sensory deprivation tank. However, as he was in this black space, the occasional sound or voice was heard. As time passed, he could hear more and more sounds. After some more time passed, the surrounding darkness started to slowly get lighter, and the sounds got louder. All of a sudden, Robert started to feel a pressure, it wasn't a pressure on him, the pressure was flowing around him, and he felt himself moving in his mother's womb. He knew that was where he was, and he also knew that he was about to be born. He then suddenly felt a much larger pressure pushing him out of the dark space he was in.
The next thing Robert knew was that it was very bright again and that he was having a little trouble breathing. He then felt a slap on his back and a small amount of liquid came out of his mouth. He felt his tiny lungs expand as he took in his first breath of air. Just as he was letting out his first cry into his new life, the place he found himself in was engulfed in flames and the sound of an explosion drowned out the sound of his cry. Before his vision went black again, he saw a quick flash of a man and a woman before they were gone, then his vision went black. A while later he heard the sounds of wood being moved accompanied by a man's voice. As a piece of wood was removed from his tiny body, a very strange face appeared. The face had a concerned look on it, but Robert could tell that it was also a gentle face. The strange thing about the face was its ears. The face had the ears of a golden retriever. That was the last thing Robert saw before he passed out from exhaustion.
