Chapter 1 - Prologue

....PROLOGUE....

....EZRA'S POV....

Ezra Thorns; she did it, she pulled me in, she smiled in the face of death.

I surveyed the area, a little skeptical as I made my way through the empty street. The street was too quiet, that kind that makes you feel like you stepped into the wrong place. I approached the house I had chosen, the flashiest one on the block.

I have a thing against flashy people, everything about them just screamed stupid.

After ringing the doorbell a dozen times with no answer, I was getting impatient, I just wanted to be basking in the agony of my victim right now.

Anything to drown out the noise screaming in my head right now.

I peered through the window, there was no sign of life, nor does it look like anybody had lived there in a while, a model house if you will.

Fuck.

I just had to choose the wrong house.

The lights were on and there had been mails delivered but not checked, the house seemed odd, something seemed off. But I wasn't the neighborhood police now, was I?

I clutched my hand beside me, jaw clenching, anger simmering inside

The smell of blood and the sight of red gives ne the exact dose of drug I needed, the pump and the adrenaline all in one.

The disappointment sank through my vein. My jaw ticked as I bit down on the slice of pizza I had planned to deliver to them.

I gathered my stuff ready to leave when shouting caught my attention, and I turned towards the source of noise.

Finally. Something alive.

A tall bulky man was yelling at a girl, she looks about my age. The way she stood there, completely unbothered, eyes blank like she had already left this world.

It surprised me.

The man turned around and I saw his face clearly.

It was Mr. Savvron, Just my luck again, I had to find an option in someone I knew.

I watched him tower over her, his voice booming as he pointed out yet another silly reason for yelling at her, and the way she looked unphased, like she experienced that everyday, like she wanted out of life, like she wanted to be anywhere but there.

Interesting.

I found myself marveling at the scene.

He was finding more reasons to prolong the abuse, I watched in awe at how not a single tear fell from her eyes as she went through it.

Behind her, a younger girl peeked out, and a woman, probably their mother stared blankly at the TV, attention undivided, almost as if none of this was happening.

The whole scene was wrong. So wrong it was almost beautiful. Too beautiful to turn away from.

Then, for the first time, her eyes flicked toward the window, toward me. Then she smiled.

A small knowing smile.

After he was done, it felt like it never happened, the girl went to take her seat near who I assumed was her little sister, took the book the girl had in her hand and just proceeded to help the girl with whatever she had been doing.

Her father went to sit next to her mother who was still very focused on the TV.

What kind of dynamic was I staring at?

They sank back into their routine like nothing ever happened.

With Mr. Savvron being so huge, setting my unplanned plan in motion was going to be tough work. But that made it more exciting that I couldn't control the ecstasy I was feeling.

A human trash that needed to die.

The one that looked away.

The bitch that wouldn't stop screaming.

And the girl that needed assistance dying.

she looked tired of the world.

Ah, the perfect victims.

I had the perfect place to hide, the house across theirs, my initial location.

I watched till the light in every room went out, until only the soft glow of the bedroom lights remained.

I was going to ring the doorbell, I was going to make the father come to me first.

And that was exactly what happened, he answered the door, with the look of anger plastered on his face "you ordered a pizza?" I said smiling with my eyes.

His eyebrow furrowed and his defense stance went down, He yelled a name "Sapphire." His voice boomed, it felt like the world echoed around us.

Sapphire was the girl, her eyes met mine "I told you to make sure your sister stops ordering things in the midnight." What?

Where was the logic in that?

As soon as his back turned, he faced Sapphire handing over the pizza box that held only two slices, I'd eaten the rest while waiting.

I plunged the knife into his neck. Before he could react, I struck him with the blunt side of the hammer. He turned slowly to face me, refusing to fall, I smiled, this time feeling the happiness as he slowly slid down the door.

Sapphire stayed rooted in place, never tried to run nor was she surprised, her expression just mirrored mine as we watched Mr. Savvron writhe in pain.

Mr. Savvron wasn't giving up but I had already invaded his home, I stepped over him and closed the door behind me. Sapphire never moved an inch.

I walked toward her then suddenly I was thrown against the wall.

I chuckled as I stared at the man now crouched down in pain "call 911." he croaked but couldn't move. She only looked satisfied, watching the scene unfold.

Resting on the chair was the same book and pen Sapphire and her sister had used. I did what I had to do, I picked the pen up and walked towards Mr. Savvron, He grabbed my pant, but I kicked his hand away. My hand closed around the fountain pen, and I plunged it into his neck.

I laughed out as blood gushed, watching him take his last breath.

When I turned to Sapphire, her face was the smoke detector blank now, devoid of any emotions. She remained frozen in place. As I walked past her up the stairs, she never said anything, she never left.

I finished off the rest of the family. When I came back downstairs, she was exactly where I had left her, this time with a knife in her hand.

I walked past her again, but something stopped me.

Her hand.

Her hand wrapped around mine, a desperate little pull I could feel.

"don't leave me alone." she said "Kill me too." I looked back to her, her eyes slowly met mine, I couldn't read them, there was no emotion behind them. It was just empty.

She placed the knife in my hand. "You wouldn't want me snitching, would you?" she asked, her eyes hopeful.

Isn't she supposed to be pleading for her life?

she was interesting. But no matter how interesting she was I couldn't leave her alive, afterall she had witnessed my crime.

We shouldn't make catching me easy for the police.

I did exactly what she asked, I stabbed her with the knife, she never broke eye contact even as blood filled her mouth.

When she finally collapsed to the floor, she smiled at me before the light faded from her eyes.

Why didn't I feel the ecstasy I normally would?
