Sylvian always thought he would be left alone in the corner while the other orphans played in the garden. He just stared at his empty hands - nothing but dust. He wished, at the very least, for a friend to play with. But it seemed like everyone had already found their own match.
"I wish I had someone to play with me…"
He sighed softly. A child barely five years old shouldn't feel so heavy inside, yet loneliness weighed him down. With nothing else to do, he trudged to his little bed and lay down. Slowly, his eyelids fluttered shut, and he drifted into sleep.
The next morning, to his surprise, a couple arrived at the orphanage. They were looking for someone. Sylvian didn't even consider it might be him—how could it? They looked so sweet together, but surely they would never pick a boy like him.
Just as he zoned out, a finger pointed directly at him.
"Huh… me?"
His eyes widened as he turned, realizing it was really him. The couple walked toward him, their smiles warm and genuine. His emotions tangled in a storm of disbelief and hope.
Could it be true? Was his dream of being chosen, of finally having a family about to come true?
Would he finally not be alone anymore…?
