Chapter 1 - The Calm Before the Storm

Agbarho, Delta State, Nigeria 2027

Title: Black Crisis

An alien invasion wipes out half of Earth's population. Nigeria is in total chaos. The President declares a state of emergency.

In a small town in Delta State, a young man named Dickson becomes the unexpected protector of his siblings after their father dies.

As humanity turns on itself for food and power, Dickson must face alien threats, human betrayal, and the rising darkness within.

With only his instincts and a dog who understands every word he says can he survive the Black Crisis

The sun had barely set when power returneda rare miracle in our little "face me I face you" apartment in Agbarho. For a brief moment, life felt normal. My siblings Fejiro, Mercy, Blessing, and Miracle were all huddled together on the old sofa, eyes glued to the sci-fi movie playing. The parlor was small, the air stale, but the sound of laughter made it feel like home.

I'm Dickson. After we lost our father, I became the head of the family. No mansion. No compound. Just a room and parlour in a building filled with struggling families. Romeo, my stepbrother, wasn't around he had traveled to Warri for work. But he'd always promised he'd return if anything ever went wrong.

That night, everything did.

Without warning, the movie was interrupted. The Nigerian coat of arms appeared on-screen, followed by a tense silence. Then came the face of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. His voice shook.

"Fellow Nigerians," he began, "an unidentified threat is approaching our world. We have done everything to stop them, but all attempts have failed. Effective immediately, a state of emergency and total lockdown are declared. Stay indoors. Stay calm. God help us all."

The broadcast ended. The screen turned to static.

Then total blackout.

I stepped outside to see if the entire neighborhood was affected. It was. The streets were quiet, too quiet. Then my phone buzzed.

Marvelous my girlfriend. Or at least, she had been.

Her message read:

I can't do this anymore. You're not capable of giving me the life I need. I need someone who can take care of me... emotionally, financially, everything. Goodbye."

My heart stopped.

The smile vanished from my face. Tears welled up but didn't fall. My chest felt like it was caving in.

And then… I looked up.

There was a bright, unnatural flash of light in the sky too big to be lightning, too strange to be anything man-made.

Then silence.

Every phone, car, and generator stopped working. The national grid collapsed. Satellites went dark. Panic erupted. People screamed. Some ran. Others dropped to their knees and prayed.

I rushed back inside, gathered my siblings, and turned on the old shortwave radio I had built from scratch using scrap wires and what my father had taught me. Static. Then voices scattered signals from around the world. Everyone was under attack.

Hours passed.

Later that night, I met up with some of my closest friends John, Destiny, Frank (we call him One Blood because of his strength), Collins, and Oreva. We found each other near our old hangout spot, trying to make sense of it all. Jean, Blessing's girlfriend, tagged along. She and Blessing were always inseparable, always touching, always making out like the world wasn't crumbling.

As we began talking, trying to share updates and fears…

BOOM!

A deafening explosion ripped through the night. The ground shook violently.

We all ducked.

Then another blast. And another.

Bombs.

We looked up to the sky and saw it a massive alien mothership, blocking the stars, releasing smaller crafts and bombs across the city.

Screams filled the air. Buildings collapsed in the distance. Flames lit up the skyline.

The invasion had begun.

And in that moment, we all knew... this was no longer just about survival.

This was a wipe out
