Just then, footsteps sounded, and a middle-aged man wearing a baseball cap, with a full beard, and dressed in casual clothes, walked over. "Can I help you?"

"Hello," Ethan said amicably. "I'm here to challenge the Gym Leader, Sabrina. Is she available?"

The man nodded, his gaze falling on Kirlia. "You also like Psychic-type Pokémon? But you yourself don't seem to have the potential to awaken psychic powers."

"Huh?" Ethan asked, puzzled. "I don't need to perform magic tricks. Why would I need psychic powers?"

"What!? Magic tricks!?" The man felt a breath catch in his chest. After a few coughs, he turned and walked deeper into the Gym. "Follow me. But don't say I didn't warn you, those without psychic powers cannot unleash the full potential of Psychic-type Pokémon!"

Cannot unleash full potential, huh? Ethan stroked Kirlia's head, not bothering to refute him on the spot. He just meant that without psychic powers, a Trainer couldn't fully connect with their Pokémon. For other Trainers and their Psychic-type Pokémon, this would indeed affect the Pokémon's strength, but for Ethan and Kirlia, it was no problem at all!

Through a long corridor, Ethan arrived at the battle arena. The floor was laid with marble tiles, and two rows of stone pillars reached up to the ceiling. Torches burned at the sides of the arena. It looked less like a Gym and more like a temple.

On the other side of the arena, a beautiful woman with long, straight black hair, a tall figure, and fair skin, dressed in a tight red leather dress with a skirt and long black stockings, sat calmly on a chair, observing him. This was the Gym Leader of the Saffron Gym—Sabrina.

"Sabrina, someone else wants to challenge you," the middle-aged man said, then walked to the center of the arena, acting as referee.

Sabrina's body slowly floated up, gently flying to the Trainer's command area. The fact that she could achieve this purely with her own psychic powers truly left Ethan both envious and impressed.

"I have foreseen your arrival," Sabrina's voice was calm and detached, seemingly without much emotional fluctuation. "And on you, besides psychic energy, there is also a disturbing aura of mischief."

Truly worthy of a woman with powerful psychic abilities; she can even see Gastly hidden in my shadow!

Because her story had left a deep impression on him, Ethan still remembered it quite clearly. When Sabrina was young, she had awakened powerful innate psychic abilities. Unfortunately, her over-obsession with psychic training gradually led Sabrina to close off her heart. She made no friends, destroyed her own home, drove her father away with her powers when he tried to stop her, and even turned her mother into a doll. And it was from that time that Sabrina split into two personalities: one, a powerful Sabrina unmatched by anyone, and the other, a prank-loving Sabrina who longed for friends and felt lonely inside.

However, Ethan had arrived at a very opportune time. A few days prior, Ash had used a Haunter brought from Pokémon Tower to successfully help Sabrina return to her normal self. At this moment, though she still appeared cold and lacked emotion, she was at least no longer withdrawn. She had reconciled with her family, and occasionally, a smile would grace her face.

Thinking of this, Ethan quickly glanced at the middle-aged man. He must be Sabrina's father, right?

"Excuse me…" Ethan collected his thoughts and asked, "What are the battle rules?"

Sabrina said, "It's a one-on-one battle. If you defeat my Pokémon, your challenge is successful."

Saying this, Sabrina slowly took out a Poké Ball. With a flash of red light, a Pokémon with whiskers, resembling a golden fox, appeared in the arena.

It's indeed the Kadabra that accompanied Sabrina in the anime!

Pokédex: "Beep. Kadabra, the Psychic Pokémon. Psychic-type. An evolved form of Abra. Strange phenomena like clocks running backward occur around Kadabra. It can also emit special alpha waves from its body, causing pain to approaching enemies. Furthermore, it has high demands for its Trainer; Trainers without strong mental power will not be acknowledged by it. Additionally, it is said that without its spoon, it can only use half of its usual psychic power."

Ethan put away his Pokédex, stretched his hand forward, and at his feet, Kirlia slowly walked onto the battlefield.

"Aren't you sending out your Ghost-type Pokémon?" Sabrina asked.

Ethan shook his head, offering no further explanation. After all, Gastly was too powerful and had a type advantage. Using it against Kadabra would neither train his own Pokémon nor give the opponent any chance to fight back.

Just then, a Haunter flew out from the side. It first circled Sabrina, then seemed to spot Gastly in Ethan's shadow and quickly flew over. Ethan's Gastly, seeing it, also floated out of his shadow. The two Pokémon flew together, making faces at each other, looking utterly delighted.

Haunter was Gastly's evolved form. The fact that they could be so close upon first meeting indicated that this entire family line indeed enjoyed playing tricks.

But… this must be the Haunter Ash brought from Pokémon Tower, right? As expected, it didn't return to Pokémon Tower but followed Sabrina!

Seeing that both Pokémon were ready and Sabrina showed no intention of striking first, Ethan finally shouted, "Kirlia, use Confusion!"

Kirlia raised its hands, and Confusion instantly activated, attacking first. An invisible force surged towards Kadabra. Sabrina did not speak, but Kadabra raised the arm holding its spoon, also emitting Confusion.

The two Confusion attacks clashed in mid-air, erupting in a brilliant flash of light. However, as both sides continued to pour out power, Kirlia's expression gradually became strained. Although both had evolved once, Kirlia's psychic power was inevitably suppressed by Kadabra!

Finally, Kadabra's Confusion struck Kirlia hard, causing Kirlia to lose its balance and stumble back a few steps. Fortunately, both shared the same type, so their respective Psychic moves caused little direct harm to each other.

"Kirlia, use Magical Leaf!"

At Ethan's command, a green light formed in Kirlia's hands. Following that, a continuous stream of Magical Leaves shot towards Kadabra at extreme speed. Sabrina's expression remained unchanged, but Kadabra, in a critical moment, suddenly used Teleport, dodging the attack.

Without speaking, she could use telepathy to communicate with Kadabra, relaying her commands. And this was Sabrina's true strength!

Ethan is in the thick of a Psychic-type battle against Sabrina and her formidable Kadabra! He chose not to use Gastly, acknowledging its type advantage. The battle is a test of skill against Sabrina's telepathic communication and Kadabra's speed and power. Kirlia's Psychic abilities are being pushed to their limits.

How will Ethan counter Sabrina's telepathy and Kadabra's evasive maneuvers? Will he find a way to break through their psychic defenses and secure his fourth Gym Badge?
