The Master Ball? That's indeed their objective!
At this point, Sabrina shifted uncomfortably. She had been maintaining the same posture for a long time, and her body was inevitably stiff. However, her movement, while providing slight relief, made her contact with Ethan even closer. Noticing a few soft spots, Ethan's heart rate involuntarily sped up, and even Sabrina's breathing became heavier.
Fortunately, those Team Rocket Grunts only rested for a short while before leaving the recreation room. Once their voices completely faded, the two quickly emerged from the locker. Having been cooped up for so long, Ethan took a deep breath. He wasn't sure if it was his imagination, but perhaps because they were so close, he thought he could still detect a hint of a girl's scent on him. To avoid awkwardness, Ethan didn't look at Sabrina's expression. Instead, he walked to the door and cautiously peeked out.
A shadowy, round face met his gaze… Ethan was startled before realizing it was his own Gastly.
"Why are you outside!?"
"It's because you two were too slow," Gastly floated in from the side, its suspicious gaze shifting between Ethan and Sabrina. "Strange, what were you doing just now? Why is her face a little red?"
"Hey, hey, don't talk nonsense!" Ethan quickly tried to cover Gastly's mouth, but his hand passed right through Gastly's body. "We were just hiding from Team Rocket's search!"
"Don't worry, Team Rocket has already left," Gastly chuckled mischievously, clearly taking Ethan's explanation as a cover-up. "Since everything's clear, let's hurry up and go."
Leaving the recreation room, the two entered the stairwell and began ascending. Unfortunately, there were too many Team Rocket members in this building. They hadn't gone far before encountering several Team Rocket Grunts head-on.
"Who are you!?" one of the Grunts shouted upon seeing Ethan and Sabrina, whose attire was distinctly different from the researchers. However, before he could act, the next second, all of them were enveloped in psychic energy and transformed into small dolls by Sabrina! This move was one she had used against Ash and Misty during Ash's Gym challenge. Those affected had no means of resistance and could only be manipulated.
However, even though these Grunts were dealt with, their shouts had alerted others. Many Team Rocket members who heard the commotion rushed toward their location.
"Things aren't going as smoothly as expected, after all!"
The two took off, running up the stairwell. Below them, more and more Team Rocket Grunts were giving chase.
"Intruders!"
"What's going on? Didn't the surveillance room notice!?"
"Damn it, how did they get in? Report to the executive quickly!"
After running up a few more floors, their path was quickly blocked by another group of Team Rocket Grunts. Now, with pursuers from behind and a blockade in front, their path was completely sealed. Seeing this, Ethan decisively took out a Poké Ball and released Kirlia.
"Gastly, use Hypnosis! Kirlia, use Confusion!"
Both Pokémon unleashed their moves simultaneously. The Team Rocket Grunts, who hadn't even had time to summon their own Pokémon, fell to the ground like bowling pins. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Ethan and Sabrina continued to run upwards.
Silph Co. Building, top floor, President's Office.
As Team Rocket's ultimate boss, Giovanni, dressed in a black suit with immaculately combed hair and a stern face, stood in this office. He looked down upon an elderly man seated on a sofa. The old man, though past his prime, was full of spirit. Despite his predicament, his face remained unchanged, showing no sign of panic.
"Old man," Giovanni's voice was low and slow, sounding incredibly oppressive. "For the sake of your employees' lives, tell me quickly, where have you hidden the Master Ball!"
"You can give up on that idea. How could I ever give such a dangerous Poké Ball to you!" the old man said calmly. "I just never expected that the notorious leader of Team Rocket would personally lead an operation to occupy my company today. It's quite astonishing."
Giovanni was completely unmoved by the old man's sarcasm. In fact, after thoroughly searching the building and failing to find the Master Ball, this old man had become his last hope. And due to his age, Giovanni wouldn't resort to violence against him.
Just then, a Team Rocket Grunt approached Giovanni and whispered a few words to him.
"Intruders?" Giovanni coldly glared at the Grunt, his displeasure evident without anger. "Why are they only discovered now?"
Cold sweat immediately trickled down the Grunt's forehead: "This… this is because they first broke into the control room, knocked out our men, and destroyed the equipment, that's why…"
Unexpectedly, even a meticulously planned operation could encounter variables.
"Who are these intruders?"
The Grunt quickly said, "There are two intruders. One has been identified as Sabrina, the Saffron Gym Leader! The other is a male, similar in age to Sabrina, but his identity has not yet been confirmed!"
"Sabrina!?"
A murderous glint flashed in Giovanni's eyes. Other people were one thing, but as an official Gym Leader of the Pokémon League, Giovanni had naturally met Sabrina several times. His identity as the Viridian Gym Leader served as a good cover for him. If Sabrina were to learn his true identity, it would indeed be a significant loss.
Thinking this, he looked back at a Team Rocket executive who had been leaning against the wall.
"Lance, I'm leaving things here to you. Don't let them leave alive."
The executive, named Lance, was a man wearing a standard Team Rocket black hat and had short, bluish-long hair. Hearing the command, he bowed elegantly and, with a frivolous tone, respectfully said, "Rest assured, sir. Everything will be over soon."
As Ethan and Sabrina, panting, finally managed to reach the top floor, they suddenly heard the loud roar of helicopter blades outside the window. A helicopter, in an instant, departed from Silph Co. and vanished into the distant sky.
They entered the floor, locked the stairwell door behind them. Just as they were about to breathe a sigh of relief, they heard applause from in front of them.
Lance, clapping, walked towards the two, praising them, "To break through our Team Rocket's heavy encirclement and reach this far, I must say, you two are truly impressive."
Around Lance, many Team Rocket Grunts surrounded them. And behind the two, with a violent crash, the pursuing Team Rocket members also broke through the stairwell door, flooding into the long corridor.
Ethan and Sabrina have reached the top floor of Silph Co., only to find themselves completely surrounded by Team Rocket, led by the executive, Lance. Giovanni, the leader, has already made his escape, likely with the Master Ball or its schematics. The stakes are incredibly high, as Lance has been ordered to ensure Ethan and Sabrina do not leave alive.
How will Ethan and Sabrina deal with Lance and the overwhelming number of Team Rocket members? Will they be able to defeat them and perhaps retrieve what Giovanni took, or will they have to fight their way out of a desperate situation?
