Kadabra, having reappeared, struck again with another Confusion attack on Kirlia, lifting it into the air. However, when Kirlia also used Confusion to resist, it broke free after only a slight struggle.

"Kirlia, use Magical Leaf!"

Magical Leaf shot towards Kadabra again. But just like before, Kadabra continued to use Teleport to dodge the attack. This time, however, Ethan was prepared. With a thought, though unspoken, Kirlia understood his intention and used Confusion on Kadabra the moment it reappeared.

Caught off guard, Kadabra's body jolted. Although it also used Confusion to break free, it still sustained minor damage. At this point, the two Pokémon were evenly matched.

Sabrina's tone was calm: "Though you yourself possess no psychic abilities, you can still connect with your Pokémon telepathically. This truly surprises me. It seems your Pokémon are exceptionally well-trained."

"You and your Kadabra are truly amazing!" Ethan returned the compliment. "In terms of psychic power alone, my Kirlia is no match for it."

Sabrina's lips curved slightly upwards, her expression showing no change. Even she, when praised directly by another Trainer, would feel a hint of pleasure. Nevertheless, her attacks showed no mercy.

Kadabra's eyes suddenly turned red, emitting waves of linear light that enveloped Kirlia. This was Psybeam, a Psychic-type move that could cause damage and had a chance to inflict confusion!

"Kirlia, use Teleport!"

Kirlia's body suddenly vanished, dodging Psybeam. Ethan's mind raced. Now that both Pokémon shared the same type, relying solely on Psychic-type attacks wouldn't be enough to decide the winner. As he thought, he suddenly found a solution and shouted loudly, "Kirlia, use Confusion!"

"Still planning to use Confusion?" Sabrina said dismissively. "Have you forgotten what you just said? Kirlia's power is no match for my Kadabra!"

Saying this, she mentally commanded Kadabra via telepathy. Kadabra used Confusion, intending to clash directly with Kirlia again. However, just as its Confusion was launched, it realized the incoming move wasn't Confusion at all, but Magical Leaf!

"What!?"

Not just Kadabra, but even Sabrina was momentarily stunned.

"Ah…" Ethan feigned surprise. "Kirlia, why aren't you following my commands?"

The invisible Confusion and the continuous Magical Leaves collided. Ultimately, Magical Leaf prevailed and swept over Kadabra. As a Grass-type move, with no type advantage or disadvantage, it finally inflicted full damage on Kadabra.

Kadabra cried out in pain, kneeling on the ground. Sabrina looked at Ethan, surprised. "You actually used deceitful words to confuse your opponent?"

"No, no!" Ethan quickly shook his head, denying it outright. However, seeing Sabrina's slight frown, clearly not believing his evasiveness, Ethan cleared his throat and re-explained, "Alright, actually, this is one of my Trainer moves. I've named it 'Verbal Discrepancy'... hmm, or 'Saying One Thing, Meaning Another' works too, but if I had my way, I'd prefer you call it—Tactical Deception!"

Tactical deception? Sabrina scoffed inwardly, ignoring him.

The next second, Kadabra's body emitted a golden glow. The scratches inflicted by Magical Leaf were rapidly healing at a visible rate!

Oh no, it's Recover!

Ethan quickly shouted, "Kirlia, use Confusion!"

His words hadn't even finished when Kirlia raised its hands and unleashed a Confusion attack, striking Kadabra. This Confusion knocked Kadabra to the ground. Although it didn't cause much damage, it interrupted its Recover and knocked its spoon to the floor.

"Now's our chance!" Ethan's eyes lit up, realizing he couldn't miss this opportunity, and decisively ordered, "Use Magical Leaf!"

Magical Leaf spun like a small tornado, striking Kadabra. Kadabra could have simply used Teleport to escape, but it couldn't abandon its spoon. It endured the full damage within the green flurry of Magical Leaves, then bent down to retrieve its spoon.

When Magical Leaf dissipated, Kadabra was already panting and covered in scratches.

"Excellent!" Ethan shouted, "Finish it off! Use Draining Kiss!"

Kirlia let out a charming cry. Following this, waves of pink sound spread outwards, passing through Kadabra's body. Draining Kiss, replacing Double Team, was a Fairy-type move that, when it hit, would definitely cause spiritual damage!

With this attack, Kadabra's body swayed and swayed, finally collapsing to the ground, unable to move. Seeing this, Sabrina's father sighed lightly, raised his right hand, and loudly announced, "Kadabra is unable to battle! Kirlia wins!"

Sabrina took out a Poké Ball, recalled Kadabra, and slowly walked in front of Ethan. Although she had lost the battle, her expression remained calm and detached; she showed no other emotions.

"You won. This is your well-deserved reward."

Saying this, she waved her hand, and a Badge flew from the side, gently floating into Ethan's hand. And this Badge was, of course, the Marsh Badge.

The Marsh Badge was shaped like a round button, and its color, as its name suggested, shimmered with a golden glow like gold itself.

Placing it into his Badge Case, with this Badge, Ethan had now obtained four Badges, meaning he had defeated four Gym Leaders. He was halfway to his goal of eight Badges needed to enter the Indigo League Conference.

Waving to Sabrina, Ethan left the Saffron Gym with Kirlia, leaving her with a dashing silhouette.

After leaving the Gym, he immediately headed to a nearby Pokémon item shop. Since catching Zapdos, Ethan felt his ordinary Poké Balls weren't very reliable for catching Pokémon, so he bought a few Great Balls just in case. Then, he bought many Pokémon pockets and put them in his backpack.

With all preparations complete, just as he was about to head to the Pokémon Center to restore his Pokémon's stamina, a fleeting glimpse of fire caught Ethan's attention. He looked up at a nearby skyscraper and saw, through the windows on one of its higher floors, several bursts of smoke and sparks. It seemed someone was battling there.

Could Pokémon battles be held inside buildings too?

Ethan shook his head, about to continue forward, but suddenly stopped. He turned to look at the name of the tall building.

Silph Co.!

Ethan has successfully defeated Sabrina at the Saffron Gym, earning his fourth Badge—the Marsh Badge! His "tactical deception" and Kirlia's effective use of its Fairy-type move were key to his victory. Now, he's noticed activity at the iconic Silph Co. building, where battles seem to be taking place.

What do you think Ethan will do now that he's at Silph Co.? Will he get involved in the events there, and what kind of challenges or discoveries await him inside the famous corporation?
