After dying trying to save a group of highschool students from a truck, Nick Wilt is reincarnated in a world where Gates form and unleash abominations that spread terror across humanity. What remains of civilisation survives beneath colossal Alliance Domes, protected by powerful people known as Core users. Around eighty percent of the population possesses a Core, each one born with an Ultimate. An Ultimate is a unique ability shaped by many factors such as a person's talents,affinities and their desires. As a Core ranks up, old abilities evolve and new ones emerge, becoming exponentially more powerful. Reborn as a baby in the slums of this new world beyond the safety of the city's Dome which is constantly under attack from abominations. Nick quickly learns that the abominations are not the only threat. In the outside world, while there are numerous abominations (some even extinction level threats) there is also the Tormentors, rogue Core users who release their power without restraint. Within the domes, corrupt elites prey upon the weak hiding with a false sense of justice and manufactured order. Determined to rise above the depths he was born into, Nick enters the martial school where students are forged into fighters through Gates and relentless training. Surrounded by ambitious allies and foes, Nick must climb through a world where power defines worth. There is only one problem. While most awaken attack type Ultimates, Nick receives an investigation type Ultimate barely suited for combat. Can he be more than the fate he is given?
