Chapter 31 - Welcome to the Academy

"Man does it feel good to not be confined to a bed anymore", Sami cheered walking next to Lyra.

Lyra has a small smile on her face he she begins to show him around the academy. Since they technically have an apprenticeship they don't share dorms with the rest of the students.

Each having a single bedroom located close to the teacher they follow in this case Mercer. So they stay in the headmaster wing located in the middle between both schools.

Onyx was on Sami's shoulder but even after Sami woke up she still hasn't cheered up. Onyx hasn't talked to anyone since leaving the familiar mark. Barley eating either just always looking at Sami while he was injured.

"So what do you think of the academy so far", Lyra wondered with a small smile on her face.

"Honestly it's nothing like it's described in the books", Sami exclaimed as he waved his arms in excitement.

So far Lyra has shown Sami the west building containing classes that they'll be taking. To break it down further the west wing is broken into six sections. Section 1-3 is the basic classes teaching the young ones how to read, write, and the basics for training. 4-5 is the advanced classes to help solidify what route of learning a person is suited for. For example Lyra was learning enchantment and runes(which go together).

The thing about runes you have to have at least some magic ability to use them in Enchanting. While you can learn runes, which is why most knights who go on missions are forced to learn them in case of a mission. Most knights don't pursue enchanting due to not having the inherent ability to use it.

Lyra, is specially that she can't cast magic outside unless it's in the form of a sword. Which is something that was passed down in her bloodline.

Finishing up the tour she showed Sami the 6th section which is for higher placed classes such as being a crusader. It's reserved for very dedicated people so it usually is the least pact. Sami just felt joy at seeing each room having different things though many of the rooms he saw so far had been empty.

Sami felt excited at finally being here. It's like a dream come true. Being able to study more than just history, finding out the magic is real. Honestly if he didn't live it, he would've thought that it was fake.

Sami slowed down a little as small beads of sweat were going down his face. Even though his body had healed, he had just woken up that morning. Lyra noticed this and decided to lead him to the court yard. This is the place most people gather to either train or enjoy sitting outside.

It took them around five minutes to make it outside, but soon Sami got his first look at the training grounds. He had to admit it was so cool, it was huge. Actually the courtyard was much bigger than it looked inside.

Unknown to Sami the courtyard has runes that make the space inside of it huge. It is why mages can train relatively big spells and not affect the school because the ruins also offer shielding. There are also sections to put up private barriers to for training or studying.

Sami and Lyra sat down on a bench, with Onyx fast asleep on his shoulder. Sami was fascinated by the few students that stayed in the school over summer. There were some casting spells, he was really intrigued by this tall man lifting a huge shield above his head.

"Bookworm are you even listening", Lyra huffed as she glanced at Sami from the corner of her eye.

Sami scratched the back of his head in embarrassment. "Sorry Lyra haha I'm just kind of overwhelmed by being here", he chuckled.

"Bookworm you've earned it", Lyra assured with a small smile on her face.

Sami didn't reply as he noticed a lone student by herself messing around with what looked like a metal gauntlet. Multiple tools laid around her as she slowly replaced wiring. He watched as two students kept pointing at her before walking over to the table she was working at.

"Here watch Onyx", Sami said abruptly as stood up dumping Onyx in Lyra's lap. Sami quickly marched towards the group as they got close to the table.

"Sigh always helping people", Lyra muttered as she got up and followed behind him. Onyx curled up in her arm as she slept.

Sami drew closer to the table and he could hear the two students mocking the girl sitting at the table.

"Look at the reject still at the school when she should've been kicked out after blowing up the first classroom", the girl on the right mocked as the one on the left snickered.

"Even if she got kicked out of the school her family disowned for not being able to use magic remember,", the girl on the left added

"I mean if she's sitting in the courtyard it means she has some level of ability to be able to be here right?"Sami cut in from behind them a frown on his face as he looked on at the two bullies.

The two girls looked at each other in confusion before turning around and seeing Sami. As they looked at clothes which was just an outfit given to him by the hospital, they sneered at him.

"I didn't think the standards had fallen so far to allow peasants to be allowed inside of the school", the girl on the left scowled.

"Just look at his outfit, he must be of low birth, especially since he's sticking up for miss zero back there", the girl on the right added.

As Sami examined them closer he saw they looked very similar and both were around the same height. Though one had blonde hair and the other had green. Both had really bad scowls on their faces as they looked at him.

"Your wit is almost as sharp as your critical thinking skills... which is to say, entirely blunt." the girl at the table spoke up for the first time.

"What did you say you annoying Zero!", the girl on the right growled. Turning to face the table.

"Let me rephrase myself.", The girl at the table replied. Pushing up her glasses as she stopped working on the gauntlet. "Your intellect is about as big as the proportions you try to flaunt on your chest that don't exist."

The girl's face turned bright red as she understood the insult. Stomping her foot in anger she glared at the girl she calls Zero.

"This isn't over Zero, because you think you have a friend to protect doesn't mean you can talk back.", the girl growled before turning around and marching. "Lets go Chole!"

"Right…right", Chole agreed as she quickly followed behind.
