Chapter 33 - Academy Life

Sami sat at the desk bored out of his mind as the teacher droned on about different structures of spells and how the pronunciation of a spell can backfire if said wrong. Sami, having learned about all of this from Anna, felt bored out of his mind going back through everything again.

Sami saw Lyra pass out on her desk letting out small snores. Sami and Lyra were both forced to take summer classes since Anna was sent on a surprise mission that will last the rest of the summer. Thankfully Anna crammed most of the information down throats when they weren't busy training for their lives.

Thankfully Sami and Lyra weren't the only people in the classes, most thought they were asleep like her. Sami on the other hand has been just practicing his senses with his magic.

Since Anna gave Sami those training devices, he rarely takes them off. Yes even during the fight against the vampires he never removed them. At all times he still has both bracelets on and a necklace that reinforces gravity around.

In the case of the necklace it holds back how much magic that he can use. Anna didn't want Sami relying on his ghost ability all the time. So the necklace makes it so he can only use it at most two minutes at a time.

A downside he really doesn't find too annoying because the cool down is only five seconds. Plus it helps negate the negatives of his ability, one is that his body is always in pain if objects pass through. Another downside is that unless he wants to go through the ground then the bottom of his feet is always still partially there so if people are quick enough they can hit him.

Honestly Sami is happy that Anna made rely on his physical abilities more than magic. With his training stuff always draining his magic, he always feels tired. Like he's wading through water at all hours of the day. Forcing himself to rely on his senses he can now see around him up to 2 meters though the range is growing.

Sami also learned he can copy most abilities he sees with near accuracy though neither or his grandfather knows how he's able to do it. Sami believes it's part of the ring that he has on his finger but that's a whole different ball game.

After what felt like eternity, the bell blew signaling the end of the class period. At the moment Sami has to take classes three days a week for two hours at a time. It goes over casting spells properly, the history of the kingdom, and proper etiquette for a Royal Knight of the kingdom.

"Alrighty sunshine wakey wakey", giggled Sami at Lyra as she sat up with a piece of paper stuck to her head.

"I wasn't… ev..even… asleep", Yawned Lyra as she stretched out her arms. Ripping the sheet of paper from the top of her head.

Sami quickly gathered up his materials and put them in his satchel. The bag is similar to what Zoe has though Lyra made it by hand. Lyra was going to give it to him as a gift for lasting throughout all of Anna's training.

After the near death he had, Lyra decided to give him the bag early as a way to show how much she cares. Though she would never admit it to him. To be fair they have been through a lot in the past almost two months. Oddly with him always being attacked.

"So did you hear, Zoe's class gets to go check out surrounding villages and offer them aid as practice runs for missions.", Lyra disclosed. Finally heading out the door as the last two students in the room.

"Ugh, she's so lucky I'm already sick of these classes" whined Sami as tear drops came out his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah", Lyra mocked as she rolled her eyes.

Sami just sighed as they split with Lyra going back to her room. They weren't allowed to train at all during the week. Essentially being grounded so to speak.

When Sami knocked out that guy the other day. The guy told his father, and since the fight wasn't a sanctioned spar Sami got in trouble. Since Lyra didn't help stop the fight she also got punished l.

Thankfully the guy, whose name Sami found to be Chester, is also banned. Apparently casting spells outside barriers is frowned upon.

Sami, without being able to train he doesn't know what to do. Since picking up training all he does is practice his combat skills daily. Honestly if wasn't dedicated to training he would've remembered to deactivate his weights before the vampires attacked.

Though Sami suspects even without the weights the fight would've ended the same. Though since taking the damage he found his magic has been acting sluggish. Besides his shields and ghost ability anything else either works or fizzes out.

Lady Akio believes it has something to do with the demon magic throughout his body. Tearing apart for the inside though he doesn't agree.

Finally making it to an empty classroom. With the majority of students home for the summer(most being from royal lineages.) The ones we stayed over the summer are more of the poor students. Or the students who didn't do well throughout the year, hence the remedial classes.

Sami shut the door behind himself, his face set in determination. As he sat his satchel down

Today's goal was figuring out how to stand on air. He found out his spell does more than makes him intangible.

It allows him to manipulate molecules, in this case he wants to manipulate air molecules. Since he found he can turn others intangible , he figures he can do the same with other things.

Technically it's why he can make shields because he hardens the air. Though it doesn't work with his intangibility. When he stands in his shield he can still get hit.

The goal is to learn to manipulate air, then learn to do fire next. The more spells he can cast without words the better.

Sami used a mix of his shadow and the clone illusion spell to make a clone that is real. It can interact with the world and help him with training. Only good thing he can say came out of that failed missions.

His control over shadows got better, though Onyx made him promise not to practice them. Speaking of Onyx since the battle she's been spending more time in the familiar mark only coming out to eat with Lyra and him.

The majority of the time she's been quiet, almost as if she's depressed. By the end of the week if she hasn't come of it he decided he's going to confront her. Pending anything happening like another mission.

Sami thoughts was running as he sat cross legged in the air. His clone copied him as he tried his best to stay a float.

Though his peace wasn't meant to last as the door opened, breaking his concentration. Causing him to plummet to the ground.
