Chapter 32 - Friendship Rediscovered

"You know you didn't have to help me", the girl sitting at the table stated.

Sami shrugged in response. "I like to help others when I can.". He replied

"Not many like to help others around here", the girl said.

"I'm not like others, plus I hate bullies more than anything else.", Sami explained.

"I see", the girl muttered.

"Hi, I'm Sami", introduced Sami.

"Zoe, though most people call me Zero", Zoe commented

Sami scratched the back of his head. "Do you want me to call you Zero then?", he asked

"Sami you can't just run off every time you see something happening", Lyra interrupted with Onyx still asleep in her hands.

"I'm sorry but I couldn't just let someone get picked on, it's my duty as a future knight to help those in need.", Sami told her.

"Sigh you're going to be the death of me", Lyra replied.

Zoe glanced up from her gauntlet as she heard the voice. Excitement gleamed in her eyes as she recognized Lyra.

"Lyra it's been so long", shouted Zoe with happiness.

Lyra looked past Sami realizing who it was and got excited. "Zoe it's so good to see you"

Pushing past Sami, Lyra quickly sat at the table and began to catch up with her. Sami just sweat dropped as he had just been ignored by both of them. It was really nice to see that she actually had some friends.

"Sami, this is like one of the only friends outside of you. I met her through Gin, because he stepped in for some people bullying her.", Lyra babbled in excitement.

"Right, I'm sorry for your loss. Gin will be missed by a lot of people around here.", Consoled Zoe as a few tears appeared in her eyes.

"It's okay Gin was always a bleeding hero, just like this idiot here", Lyra replied pointing at Sami as he sat down next to Lyra.

"Hey helping people is a good thing.", Said Sami defensively.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah", Lyra mocked, sticking her tongue out.

"So how did you meet Sami?"Zoe asked.

Lyra titled her head to the side. "Hmm ironically through a walk in the woods, I ended up saving his life then decided to take him on as my teammate."

"I feel like there's more to the story you're missing", Sami cut in.

"Nah, I trust Lyra to tell me everything", chuckled Zoe.

"UGH!"Sami fumed. Hitting his head on the table.

"By the way Lyra I remember you asking me for a set of armor so how did that hold up.", Zoe inquired. Ignoring completely ignoring Sami's antics.

Lyra took a deep sigh, "It was destroyed during the mission Gin died sadly. I wanted to try to salvage it, sadly it was too far gone."

"Wait, she was the one who crafted that armor?"Sami looked at Zoe, confused on how she came up with it.

"Yes I made the armor though, I wish I knew how to add runes to armor so that it would've fixed itself.", replied Zoe. "Also Lyra the armor truly doesn't matter as long as you come back safe."

"I know I just so much has gone wrong since then-", began Lyra.

"Pila Ignis!", a deep voice interrupted.

Sami quickly put his hand on the table, focusing his magic through. The table and the people sitting there began to flicker as a giant fireball came shot at them.

Boom!

The fireball went flying through them hitting the wall a few feet away. The fire slowly died out as it left a blackened mark on the wall. The group forms became less ghost-like as Sami stopped feeding his magic into the table.

"OH MY ZEUS! What the hell was that?", yelled Zoe as she began to pat herself.

Sami shrugged nonchalantly. "Just my magic, I can make myself and other things intangible. Kind of like a ghost.", he replied.

"You can do that with no chanting?", questioned Zoe. Staring intently at Sami as if trying to dissect him.

"Uh-OH", Muttered Lyra as she pet Onyx who was still snoring away in her arms.

"What do you mean by uh-oh?",asked Sami as he nervously rubbed his head.

"Shush it Lyra", Zoe butt in. "Answer the question Ghost boy! How does your ability work?"

Ducked down as a punch went over his head, thankfully neither of the girls was sitting on the other side. Sami phased through the table as he stood up to see the attacker. It was a man taller than him by a couple feet, whose face was full of rage.

Sami quickly ended his power as the man threw a punch at his face. Sami grabbed the man's punch, pulling his body forward, ramming his knee in the guy's face.

BAM!

The man was quickly knocked out, nose broken.

"My ability is similar to a ghost, I can pass through people. Stop myself from taking damage, even go through the ground if needed", Sami answered. Brushing off his shirt as he sat back down.

Zoe looked at Sami in a new light as she saw how fast Sami took down the person trying to fight them.

"Are we just going to leave him on the ground?", Zoe asked worriedly as the guy laid on the ground. Blood from his nose all over the place.

"Meh he started the problem, why should we care?", Lyra replied. Standing up from the table.

"Isn't wrong to-", Zoe started as she pushed up her glasses.

"Nah none of that he wanted to fight and fucked up messing with the wrong people. It's a lesson he'll learn.", Lyra interrupted. "Now, let's go grab food I'm super hungry."

Lyra quickly walked towards the exit, Onyx now sleeping on her head. Zoe looked at Sami as he shrugged.

"Honestly you get used to how she is", chuckled Sami.

Zoe just sighed as she began to carefully pack up all of her stuff. Sami's eyes locked in on the gauntlet that she just put away, Zoe's small satchel fitting everything inside of it.

"Zoe?", called Sami as he rubbed the back of his head.

Zoe brought her head up to look at Sami, "What?", she inquired.

"So what is the gauntlet you're working on?"Sami wondered.

Zoe's eyes gleamed as she looked strongly at Sami. "This is one of my favorite babies," she explained. "I found out when people use magic it leaves a trace."

Zoe paused for a moment as she looked at Sami making sure he was listening.

"The gauntlet's job is to soak ambient magic, and enhance the user allowing access to higher spells with less of a feedback.", She continued.

"Wait so you're legit making a way for everyone to cast magic even if they wouldn't be able to naturally. That's so cool!"Sami exclaimed.

"There's more to it like I want them to be able to morph from a bracelet to the gauntlets but yes!", Zoe agreed

Before Zoe could continue Lyra came back and grabbed both her and Sami by the ear. Dragging them towards the exit as they tried to fight to break the hold.

"If you guys keep fighting, I will summon swords underneath both of your asses", Lyra growled.

Sami and Zoe ceased fighting, as Lyra led them by their ear to the cafeteria. Sami had a huge pout on his face, though couldn't help but laugh since he felt better after the whole fight.
