Chapter 37 - The Gauntlet's Embrace

"Ugh that idiot, I can't believe he left us with a clone", Lyra ranted as the group left the mayor's house and began walking down the dirt path.

Zoe shrugged with indifference. "You and Poke have just been pushing him all day. If I was him I would've left sooner."

"Ugh", Screamed Lyra as she threw her hands up stomping off ahead of the group.

"Welp I for one think it's a good idea for us to split up", suggested Poke as he followed after Lyra.

"I think that's a great idea actually", Zoe agreed.

"Fine what do you suggest then", asked Lyra as she stopped walking abruptly. Almost causing Zoe to run into her.

"Welp my parents said that other villages have been going missing in the night", Zoe explained as she stepped back from Lyra. "Maybe other villages might yield more evidence if we investigate."

Lyra turned and faced Zoe thinking for a moment before nodding her head in agreement.

"I'll go with Poke to go check out the village close to this one and then we can all meet up at the third one", Lyra the group.

"Works with me", Poke agreed.

"I'll go check the farmland for Sami, assume that where he would go.", Guessed Zoe.

Poke didn't say anything else as he turned to start walking away. Going in the direction of the other farming village called Riverbend.

"Be safe", Stressed Lyra. Before she quickly met up with Poke,

Zoe now finding herself alone, felt weird. Usually she likes the solitude of her own thoughts. Yet being around people that actually want to be around her is different. She likes the fact they get along with her, and not just making fun of her for her lack of magic makes it all the better.

Sighing to herself she quickly set off towards the farmers' land. Before they left her parents house, they said that the local animals that usually are around have disappeared. Zoe also made note that most of the farm hands also started taking off.

They also said that the land felt like death, as if something was coming for them. So maybe the creature attacking the animals is a monster. Maybe something associated with death.

A strong wind suddenly kicked up, almost blowing Zoe off of her feet. The ground around the village began to shake violently. People around her were either falling down, or trying to grab hold of things in fear.

Zoe, worried about Sami, took off running towards the farm land located outside the city. The closer she got the more violently the ground began to shake.

-

"Salva Obsidiana!", the voice echoed as multiple shards of bones began to shout out of its armored hand.

Sami quickly used his ghost mode to go under the ground, before quickly popping up behind the creature. Sami landed a blow to the creature's head that sent it stumbling before catching itself. Sami quickly followed up with a roundhouse that sent the creature flying through the air.

Sami landed on his feet, waiting for the creature to get back. His body began to feel like sharp needles going through his entire body. Blood slowly began to drip from his nose as head began to hurt.

Sami was trying to pretend like his body didn't hurt from using his powers. Yet he felt a sense of fatigue. Ever since the fight started it's as if his magic is disobeying him.

"HAHAHAHAHA!", the creature laughed as it began to echo. The creature climbed to its feet as it continued to laugh.

"SAMI!", a voice yelled out from behind.

Sami took his eye off the creature as he turned to see who called his name. He saw Zoe run towards the farmland, before stopping a little bit from where Sami was standing.

"Zoe!"Sami replied. "Get out of here quickly!"

The creature began to run at Sami, trying to catch off guard since he's distracted.

"Sami duck", Zoe quickly shouted.

Sami with no hesitation duck, a kick that would've hit his head missed. Sami tried to throw an uppercut, which the creature caught before pulling Sami in, kneeing him in the face. Blood sprayed out of his now broken nose as took a couple steps back from the hit.

Soon the creature and Sami began to enter a deadly dance as each tried to injure the other. Sami though was mainly on defense as he was forced to block or dodge out attacks. The creatures slowly sped up as Sami tried to move faster to counter it.

While Sami was fighting, Zoe quickly started going through her back to find the gauntlets she's been working on. She wanted to go out there and help with the fight but she realized it wouldn't make sense for her. Especially since she has no combat experience.

Zoe watched as Sami whipped the blood off his face before dodging more punches from the armored figure. From the distance Zoe was standing it looked like the symbol of the person fighting Sami is from the academy. Yet it doesn't make sense why someone would try to kill him.

Sami not knowing the thought's going through Zoe's head was stuck on the defense. The creature's attacks began to grow faster as Sami barely could keep up with the speed. For every one attack he would dodge, another two would actually hit him.

Sami tried to throw a punch that the creature parried causing Sami to stumble before being grabbed by his shirt. The creature kneed Sami multiple times before throwing Sami at Zoe's feet.

Zoe looked on in worry as Sami began to cough up blood. She put the gauntlets away before kneeing down next to Sami. Zoe began to take out clothes from her bag using it to whip Sami's face as he lay on the ground knocked out.

"If this body wasn't so weak", the being muttered to itself before walking away from them.

Sami began to come too as Zoe helped him to his feet, blood dripping down his face as he tried to stand.

The being suddenly stopped walking before turning back around. "You have earned my respect. I can see why my master wishes to turn you."

"What do you mean?"Sami weakly asked as he coughed up more blood.

"Survive this, and soon the answer you seek will come to find you", The creature replied.

"What does that mean?"Zoe questioned the creature.

The creature ignored her as it suddenly punched the ground. Soon multiple skeleton arms began to grow out of the ground. Purple energy began to swirl around the creature as he held his palm up to the sky.

"Okay, okay not good", Zoe mumbled as even she could feel the air around them begin to turn dark. "Sami please tell me you can turn us intangible right?"

"No", he weakly replied as he began to lean even more weight on Zoe. "My powers have barely been working since the fight has started."

Zoe let out a big breath as she did her best to hold up Sami. "Any ideas then? I don't think we have enough time to run away before it finishes its spell,"she explained.

"I can try to put up a barrier but I don't think I have enough strength to do that," Sami replied.

Zoe remembered the gauntlets she brought with her. She gently sat Sami on the ground before searching through her satchel. Pulling out the gauntlets once again.

"Quick put these on", Zoe told him. As she kneeled in front of Sami helping him put the gauntlets.

If it wasn't for Zoe's help Sami probably wouldn't have been able to put them. As soon as both gauntlets fit over his hands they shrunk down to a perfect size. Suddenly as if healed Sami began to feel energy rushing through his body.

"Okay good news the gauntlets haven't overwhelmed his body with excess energy in the air." Zoe muttered as she began to take notes.

"Zoe I'm giving you a warning now stay close, I'll make a shield enough to protect us.", Sami interrupted her thoughts.

Zoe nodded as she stood close to Sami. Sami began to concentrate on making a shield. Before his magic wouldn't call to him, but with gauntlets helping he slowly began to chip away at the block before condensing the air.

"YES MY PREY! SURVIVE THIS AND AN ANSWER YOU SEEK ILL TELL YOU!", the voice echoed once again.

"FUCK YOU AND YOUR ANSWERS", Sami replied as he sat down making sure to hold the shield in a circle around Zoe and himself.

"Grave's Fury (Furia Sepulcri)", The voice chanted.

A big ball of purple energy began to appear around the beings hand. The ball grew bigger as it began to eclipse everyone on the farm. The farm animals that weren't already running away were dropping to the ground. As if the energy was sucked out of there.

"OH FUCK", Zoe screamed as the ball was thrown at them.
