Chapter 34 - The Clone and the Grimoire

"Seriously you can now just float in the air", Zoe complained as she stared at Sami who was climbing to his feet.

Sami rubbed his back as he replied, "You know it's rude to barge into a door with knocked"

"Yeah yeah don't change the subject, how were you flying? Also what's up with the illusion still floating in the air", She demanded.

"My demands are we", Sami chuckled as he looked at his clone." "Well first off, that's an actual clone. I mixed two different spells to create him"

"Most clone spells either are illusion based or can only copy one spell from the caster before leaving. In most cases it's a waste of extra magic unless you have high reserves." Zoe Lectured.

"Huh really this guy can act on his own, even casting spells until I dispel it. I also learned everything he does, though I get a huge mental backlash sometimes", Sami explained.

"You have got to teach me the spell, can you imagine how much work I can get done", Zoe cried as she showed her teary eyes at Sami.

Sami waved his arms frantically. "Even if I wanted to teach you I can't", he stated. "I got a magical affinity for shadows because of my familiar. So using my shadow is how I make a clone."

"Shadow magic", Zoe muttered to herself as she quickly sat at one the desk Sami pushed to the side early.

She quickly took a note book out of her satchel before frantically taking notes. Sami wanted what she was working on, but ended up deciding against it. He started poking at the clone as it stayed in the air

Sometimes his hand would go through the clone's body. At other times he would actually hit the clone. Honestly it's better odds than it usually has been. Also training helps not hitting the 2 minute mark right away. As he flicked out of ghost mode all the time.

Time went by as small beads of sweat started to drop down Sami's. His nose slowly started to drop blood as pushed himself in his training.

Suddenly a loud growl in the room was heard in the room. Sami scratched his head in embarrassment.

"Sorry for distracting you", mumbled Sami as he stood there embarrassed.

" Sigh these things can't be helped", Zoe replied. " Come let's go grab food." Hiding the fact she was also hungry.

Sami whooped in excitement as he quickly arranged the room back to normal. He then snapped his fingers unsummoning his clone. The ring on his friend glowed a tiny orange before laying dormant.

Luckily Zoe didn't notice as she was left putting the finishing touches on her notes. Once everything was finished they both began walking towards the cafeteria. It's located near the courtyards.

Sami didn't like how quiet Zoe was as they walked. This was someone outside of Anna, and Lyra to actually treat him well. Not like an outsider or a burden to talk to.

With that on his mind he began thinking of ways to start a conversation. He remembered that she was working on some gauntlets and wanted to know more about how it was going.

"So Zoe", Sami awkwardly began.

"You don't have to be seen with me if that's what you're about to say", She guessed. Though her tone was guarded.

"No that was my intention", Sami quickly clarified.

"Oh", Zoe remarked. Not knowing what else to say.

"Yes, I was wondering how your gauntlets were coming?"Sami asked.

Zoe's eyes gleamed as she pushed her glasses up. "The project is coming along well," she explained. "I was able to stabilize the gauntlets so they can only take in what the user can use. On top of that they can form a shield around the user incase of excessive power going through them."

"Really?"Sami shouted in excitement.

"Yes! Actually the best part, I'm trying to make them into a prototype of a grimoire. So even normal people that aren't nobles may have a chance to have great excess to magic.", Replied Zoe.

"That's the second time I heard that name grimoire. What is it? Like how does it help people cast magic. I thought that's what chants were for", Sami questioned.

"How do I put this, chant helps one's mind to concentrate on the spell at hand instead of running with imagination.", Zoe pointed out. "Grimore's is like a special enchanted weapon that gets passed down by bloodline or if a lucky individual gets chosen for one randomly like finding one in a dungeon."

"Oh so you're just trying to make special weapons for everyone?", he asked.

"Kind of, grimoire are more than special weapons; they house spells used from anyone that held it prior to the person gaining it. You get everything from their thoughts, to how they fight.", Zoe answered.

"Ah kind of like a diary", Sami mused.

"Exactly! The best part is it helps regulate magic, cutting out the need to chant, or practice the magic language.", Added Zoe. "The grimoire also becomes the weapon the person most needs or favors."

"I'm so excited!"Sami exclaimed. "You gotta let me try the gauntlets out once you get them made."

"Sure I need a test run.", Zoe agreed. "I only made them gauntlets to add the runes I needed. Once I know which ones work I can make it smaller for verison two."

Sami didn't reply as he had a huge smile on his face, he was pumped to be able to test them out in training. Once he's off training punishment that is. Oh he can't tell Lyra the exciting news.

"Hey bookworm", a voice called out as the rounded a corner.

In front of Sami and Zoe was Lyra, now not in school uniform. This time back in her usual training gear complete with the same jewelry Anna gave Sami. Sami was excited to see Lyra, but had a weird feeling when he saw her frowning.

"What were you two doing?", wondered Lyra as her eyes narrowed at Sami.

"I was studying his usage in using magic", Zoe interrupted. Adjusting her glasses as she felt a small chill go down her spine

Lyra's eyes began to glow as fire shot from them. "Did you seriously go training without me", Lyra accused Sami.

"No No No", Squeaked Sami as he hid behind Zoe. "I was just simply studying in a room by myself."

"Nerd girl answer", Lyra growled at Zoe.

Zoe and Sami both began to shiver as if the air around them began to grow cold.

"I.. I. wa..wa..wa",stattered Zoe as she tried to explain herself.

"Spit it out", interrupted Lyra.

"I walked into him training with some new type of clone, both of them sitting in mid air", Zoe whimpered. Scared that if she lied Lyra would retaliate.

"YOU, how dare you train without me", Screamed Lyra as she marched towards Zoe and Sami

Both just shivered at the anger she was radiating.
