Synopsis
E.Y.E.S. A technology that was supposed to revolutionize modern medicine. A neural device capable of rewiring the human brain restoring sight to the blind, giving the paralyzed control over their own bodies, and offering hope to those the world had written off as broken. But even the noblest intentions can have consequences no one ever saw coming. When Krishna accidentally activates E.Y.E.S., the world he knows begins to crack from within. Something is growing inside his head. Something born from E.Y.E.S. itself. Something that was never supposed to exist. Now, he’s being hunted, and the conspiracy closing in on him is far bigger than anything he could’ve imagined. Meanwhile, his older brother, Krish, is hiding an even darker secret. His brain is perfectly suited to host something that should never have had a perfect host in the first place. It can take control of him at any moment. No warning. No symptoms. And Krish knows exactly what that means because he’s seen it happen to the person he cared about most. The institute that created E.Y.E.S. is secretly working to contain it. Criminal organizations are after it for a power they believe is nothing more than the ability to manipulate reality. And caught in the middle are forces whose motives run far deeper than a simple matter of good versus evil. Krishna is running out of time before whatever is growing inside him and inside Krish becomes something neither of them can stop. His choice should be simple, but it’s anything but. Embrace the power E.Y.E.S. has to offer, or hold on to who he is before there’s nothing left of him to save.

Chapter 1 - I never asked to be the main character!! …But hey, I’m already awesome, so why not?

E.Y.E.S: FRACTURED DESTINY

Arc 1: Sync of Destiny

(The camera shakes a little. The image is still blurry. Krishna's breathing can be heard. His hand enters the frame as he adjusts the camera's position. Then... his face suddenly pops up way too close to the lens. He flashes a confident grin.)

KRISHNA(smirking, trying way too hard to look cool):

"Testing... testing... Okay. We're recording. Focus? Focus."

(He leans back in his chair. He casually fixes his hair a little. Then...)

KRISHNA:

"Yooo, what's good, what's good! I'm Krishna. Sixteen years old. Handsome, charismatic, and..."

(He pauses. His expression shifts into a mischievous grin as he points at the camera.)

"Ah, who the hell am I kidding? I can't even get a date in the school cafeteria."

(A dry laugh. Then he lets out a long sigh.)

"But whatever. If the world won't give me the recognition I deserve, I'll make the whole damn world acknowledge me. Starting today."

(He pauses, flashing a wide grin like a kid who's just come up with the most chaotic plan imaginable.)

"Welcome to my life, where logic gets tackled by reality."

(The screen darkens. A title flashes on-screen, flickering in and out.)

E.Y.E.S: FRACTURED DESTINY

Arc 1: Sync of Destiny

"I never asked to be born. But apparently, you're supposed to enjoy life. Fine. I'll enjoy it..."

"From the outside, my life probably looks like any other teenager's. School, hanging out, occasionally skipping class when the teacher starts throwing around equations that sound more like demonic incantations. But underneath all that, there's... something. Something that makes me go, 'Holy crap!!'"

"My parents? Been gone for ages. No idea where they went. Heaven, hell, or maybe they just moved into the convenience store down the street. I don't have any pictures of them, no recordings of their voices. Just fragments of weird dreams that sometimes show up when I accidentally fall asleep in class. And even those aren't exactly reliable. Like, seriously, what kind of parents would send me extra internet-café hours as a bonus package?"

"I grew up without answers. Without a single clue. The only thing I had was what my uncle once told me: that my parents had turned into the wind."

"'That's why, every time you fart, take a good sniff. Might be your dad sending you a love letter from beyond the grave.'"

"That's what he said while sipping his coffee. The old man's insane. But sometimes, crazy people hide a little truth behind their nonsense. And if you dig deep enough, apparently, you can even smell a little bit of the past in a fart."

FLASHBACK

Heavy rain poured over the city of Zyphoria, flooding the streets with growing puddles. Lightning struck, its flashes reflecting off the glass windows of towering buildings.

At Permata Bangsa Kindergarten, the bell rang loudly, signaling the end of the school day. The children began lining up in an orderly fashion, though some were practically bouncing with excitement to get home. Outside, parents waited with large umbrellas, ready to pick up their precious little ones.

"All right, kids! Let's line up nicely. No pushing, okay?" their teacher reminded them gently.

The children obeyed cheerfully. A few giggled among themselves, too excited to see their parents to stand still.

In the corner of the classroom, a little boy stood silently beside the window.

Krishna.

He pressed his palm against the foggy glass, his eyes searching desperately for someone outside.

But what he saw... wasn't quite real.

Through the falling rain, a woman stood in the distance. A blurry silhouette. Indistinct, almost impossible to make out.

But Krishna knew her better than anyone.

Long hair blowing in the wind. A warm smile that had always made him feel safe.

His eyes widened. His breathing grew unsteady. The cold rain seemed to pierce straight through his bones, but the strange feeling in his chest was even colder.

Was it longing... or just an illusion?

"W-What... is that?" he whispered, his voice trembling.

His heart sank.

He knew it was impossible. His mother was gone.

But why... why could he see her so clearly?

Suddenly, a small hand tapped his shoulder.

"Krishna?"

Krishna jolted. He immediately turned around, his heart still pounding wildly.

He blinked.

Standing in front of him was Lira, fidgeting with her fingers, looking a little hesitant.

"Hm?" Krishna flashed a wide grin, poking at the condensation on the window like a bored little kid with absolutely nothing better to do.

Lira took a small step forward before holding out her hand.

In her palm was a star-shaped keychain.

"Um... this..." she said softly. "It's yours, right?"

Krishna stared at his keychain.

Then his grin grew even wider.

"OOOOHHH!!"

He snatched it up and held it high above his head.

"I THOUGHT THIS THING WAS GONE FOREVER!!"

Lira let out a small sigh.

"You dropped it when you were... doing that weird superhero thing."

Krishna immediately flashed a cheeky grin.

"Ohoho! So you remember! You're a fan of mine, huh?"

Lira's cheeks turned a little red.

"N-No!"

Krishna's grin grew even more obnoxious.

"Yes, you are! Yes, you are! YES, YOU ARE!"

Lira glared at him and crossed her arms.

"No, I'm not! I just wanted to give it back!"

Krishna stared at her for a moment...

Then he suddenly leaned closer, narrowing his eyes mischievously.

"You're scared of everything, you know," he whispered.

Lira's eyes widened.

"HEY! I'M NOT SCARED!!"

Krishna immediately burst out laughing, the kind of loud, obnoxious little-kid laugh that could drive anyone insane.

"HAHAHAHA! LIAR! YOU TOTALLY ARE!"

Lira's face turned bright red with frustration.

"I'M NOT SCARED, OKAY?!"

Krishna gave her a sly grin.

"Then why were you so scared of that dog yesterday? It was a Chihuahua! That thing was TINY! What a scaredy-cat!"

Lira started pouting, her cheeks growing even redder.

"I don't like dogs! They... they bark and bite!"

Krishna flapped his arms like a bird.

"Ooooh, she's scaaared! Lira's such a scaaaredy-cat~!"

Lira lightly smacked his arm.

"UGH! KRISHNA, YOU'RE SO MEAN!"

Krishna kept laughing.

But when he glanced back at Lira, his smile slowly softened.

He looked down at the star-shaped keychain in his hand.

Then... he held it out to her.

Lira frowned.

"Huh? But I just gave that back to you!"

Krishna kept grinning.

"Just take it."

Lira stared at him, confused.

"Huh? Why?"

Krishna put his hands on his hips, striking a heroic pose.

"Because this is the sacred charm of a mighty knight like myself! So take it, fair maiden!"

Lira fell silent for a few seconds.

Then a small smile crept across her face.

"...You're really giving it to me?"

Krishna grinned.

"YEAH! But you have to give it back if I'm ever in trouble, okay?!"

Lira giggled softly and held the little star tightly in her hand.

"...Okay, okay... Thanks, Krishna."

From a distance, Lira's mother called out to her.

"Come on, sweetheart! Let's go home!"

Lira glanced back toward her mother before looking at Krishna again.

Her smile grew wider.

"Krishna, I'm going home now, okay? Bye-bye!"

Krishna waved casually.

"BYEEE, SCAREDY-CAT~!"

"UGHHHH!!"

Lira pouted and ran off.

Krishna laughed to himself before sitting back down in his chair.

He looked out the window, a small smile still lingering on his face.

The rain began to ease.

And for some reason... his heart felt warm.

Once all the other students had gone home with their parents, only Krishna remained, sitting quietly at his desk.

His gaze was blank as he stared out the window, watching raindrops fall across the schoolyard.

The teacher, who was still putting away some books at her desk, glanced at him and let out a quiet sigh. She approached her little student, who seemed lost in his own thoughts.

"What's wrong, sweetie? Where's the person who's supposed to pick you up?" she asked, gently patting his head.

Krishna remained silent. His hands clenched on top of the desk, as though he were trying to hold something back.

The teacher crouched down to meet his eyes.

"Would you like me to take you home?" she asked again, her voice full of concern.

Krishna swallowed.

Outside, the rain grew heavier, making the classroom feel even more empty.

Before Krishna could answer, hurried footsteps approached the classroom.

A middle-aged man appeared in the doorway, slightly out of breath.

"Excuse me. Assalamu alaikum, Ma'am."

His voice was deep, but there was something unmistakably cocky about his delivery.

Krishna turned around. The moment he recognized the man, his eyes lit up.

"UNCLEEEE!!" he yelled, practically jumping up and down on his chair.

Takashima flashed a grin.

"Yup. That's me!"

The teacher smiled at him.

"Oh, are you Krishna's father?"

Takashima raised an eyebrow, a smug grin spreading across his face.

"Hoooh~ If I were his dad, I'd be a little too young, wouldn't I, Ma'am? But hey, I wouldn't mind being your hus—"

The teacher immediately cleared her throat loudly.

"AHEM."

Takashima let out a quiet laugh.

"Hehehe. Sorry. Force of habit."

Krishna just stared at the two of them, completely oblivious to what was happening.

The teacher sighed, though her smile remained.

"All right, then. I'll be heading out now. Excuse me, sir."

Takashima flashed her a flirtatious grin.

"Take care on your way home, Miss Teacher~ Don't miss me too much!"

The teacher shot him a sharp look before walking away.

Once she was gone, Takashima crouched in front of Krishna, that same shameless grin still plastered across his face.

"Sorry, kiddo. I'm a little late picking you up."

Krishna barely paid attention to what he'd said. His eyes were already sparkling with excitement.

"UNCLE! I'M HUNGRY! I WANT NASI GORENG WITH TWO FRIED EGGS!"

Takashima burst out laughing.

"DUDE! I THOUGHT YOU MISSED ME!"

Krishna pouted.

"I DO! BUT I'M HUNGRY FIRST!"

Takashima rubbed his forehead.

"All right, then. Guess who's waiting outside?"

Krishna's eyes widened.

Without a second thought, he jumped off his chair and bolted out of the classroom.

"KRISHHHH!!!"

Standing outside was a boy who was much taller than Krishna. His schoolbag hung carelessly over one shoulder, and his hands were buried in his pockets.

The moment he saw his little brother, he raised a hand.

"Yo, what's up, little man?" Krish greeted him casually.

Krishna's eyes lit up.

"KRISH!"

He immediately sprinted toward him.

Krish smirked and ruffled Krishna's hair.

"Still alive?"

Krishna instantly protested.

"HEY! DON'T MESS UP MY HAIR!"

"If I don't, you'll forget you even have an older brother."

"Ugh! You're so full of yourself!"

Krish just laughed.

"So, how was school?"

"I was awesome!"

"Oh yeah?"

"YEAH!"

"Good. So those math scores from yesterday must belong to somebody else, then?"

Krishna froze.

Krish burst out laughing.

Suddenly—

WHAM!

Krish grabbed Krishna from behind and wrapped an arm around him, nearly lifting the little guy off the ground.

"WOOH!"

"WHOA! HEY!" Krishna yelped, completely caught off guard.

Krish laughed triumphantly.

"Hahaha! You're tiny, but damn, you're loud."

Krishna immediately started struggling.

"LET GO! LET GO!"

"Nope."

"LEEEEET GOOOO!"

"Nope."

Krishna finally pinched Krish's arm.

"OW! YOU LITTLE BRAT!"

Krishna broke free and darted a couple of steps away, sticking his tongue out.

"THAT'S WHAT YOU GET!"

Krish just shook his head, laughing.

"Little punk."

Meanwhile, Takashima watched the two of them from a distance and immediately covered his face with one hand.

"Oh, dear God... One kid is already enough to give me a headache. Now I've got TWO."

Before heading home, Krishna suddenly ran into the middle of the schoolyard.

Instead of staying under shelter, he started kicking water out of the puddles in every direction.

SPLASH!

SPLASH!

He laughed to himself, spinning around in the rain.

"KRISHHHH!!!"

Krish, who'd been kicking a pebble, turned around.

"What now?"

Krishna raised both hands into the air.

"RACE YOU HOME!"

Krish let out a long, exhausted sigh.

"If you fall, don't you dare start crying."

Krishna flashed a huge grin.

"LAST ONE HOME IS A LOSER!"

And before Krish could even react, he took off running.

"HEY!"

Krish stared at him for a split second.

"OI! THAT'S CHEATING!"

Krishna just laughed and kept running.

Krish finally took off after him.

"GET BACK HERE!"

"CATCH ME FIRST!"

Takashima immediately grabbed his forehead.

"...DEAR GOD."

He tilted his head toward the sky, as if praying for an extra supply of patience.

"Morning? Noise. Afternoon? Noise. Night? More damn noise."

He pointed at the two boys running around in the rain.

"And now they're running around in the rain."

He let out another long sigh.

"I swear, your dad must've dumped you two on me while laughing his ass off."

But there was no point complaining.

It was his fate to look after two little troublemakers with seemingly limitless energy.

In the end, he went back into the classroom to grab Krishna's forgotten schoolbag before casually following after them.

Up ahead, Krishna was still laughing as he ran as fast as his little legs could carry him.

And Krish?

Still chasing him while complaining the entire way.

They were just two kids who knew absolutely nothing about the world yet.

As for Takashima?

He had a headache.

"That was a long time ago, but the emptiness I felt as a kid is still here, even now... Sometimes I wonder, if everything hadn't fallen apart, would I still be such a stubborn pain in the ass?"

"But whatever. I'm not the kind of guy who likes being dramatic. So, back to the point..."

"I'm not gonna sit here and tell you life is fair. But if you've still got your family around, appreciate them before it's too late. Not everyone gets that kind of luck. Me? All I can do is thank the angel who saved my ass—my Uncle Takashima. Without him, who knows what would've become of me?"

"Oh, and one more thing... I have an older brother. His name's Krish. Honestly, I don't really need to explain that, since you've already read the flashback."

"He's more than four years older than me. Four whole years! But the way he acts, you'd think we're from four different generations."

"Ever since we were kids, his hobbies have included bossing me around, sending me to the convenience store to buy coffee and Indomie, lecturing me, and doing stuff he thinks is cool when it really isn't."

"Uncle Takashima always tells me I need to respect my older brother. And I do respect him. Sometimes."

"When he asks me to go to the internet café or play a game with him."

"When I'm pissed off? I punch Krish in the face."

"And what pisses me off even more is that he's got the whole damn package. Smart, popular, loved by girls, liked by the neighbors. Even the stray cat outside our house listens to him more than it listens to me. I seriously don't get it. Whoever's writing this story, just let ME take over! I swear I'd do a better job. I'd turn Krish into a complete idiot."

"And for some reason, whenever there's a problem, everyone looks at Krish first."

"As if he's always got an answer."

"So damn annoying."

"Oh, speaking of important people, there's one more person I wanna introduce to you guys. She's a girl. Her name's Srada."

"And if any of you are wondering, 'Krishna, is she your girlfriend?'"

"My answer?"

"Hahaha... Let's just say she's EXACTLY my type! Beautiful, caring, funny. She's the kind of girl who makes me feel... ahhh, damn it. I can't even explain it."

Srada, who'd been listening to all of this, immediately started yelling.

"OH, PLEASE! YOU'RE SO FULL OF YOURSELF! YOUR FACE LOOKS LIKE A JAR OF TIGER BALM! GUYS, HE'S NOT MY BOYFRIEND! HE'S JUST SOME DELUSIONAL LITTLE BRAT WHO DREAMS WAY TOO BIG!"

Krishna tilted his head, looking genuinely confused.

"B-But you said—"

"HEY! SHUT UP ALREADY!" Srada snapped before he could finish.

Krishna could only flash an awkward grin.

Meanwhile, Hamada, who'd been listening to the whole thing, burst out laughing.

"All right, all right! Stop fighting already! Remember, we're here to say hi to all our handsome and beautiful friends watching us so they can get to know us better, right?" Hamada said, putting on his best wise-guy act.

Krishna immediately put on a mischievous expression and glanced at Srada.

"See? Listen to him, Princess~"

He winked at her.

"MY NAME ISN'T PRINCESS, YOU IDIOT!!! UGH, WHATEVER! I'M DONE! YOU'RE SO ANNOYING!"

Srada pouted and stormed off, leaving the two boys behind.

Hamada shook his head.

"See what you did? Can't you go ONE DAY without pissing her off?"

Krishna burst out laughing.

"What can I say, bro? She's the one who said it!"

"HEY! I CAN HEAR YOU!!!" Srada shouted from a distance.

"WHOA, SHIT!" Krishna yelped, startled.

Then he turned back toward the camera.

"Okay, that's it for my little introduction! I still have no idea why my life is being turned into a show for everyone to watch. I NEVER SIGNED UP TO BE THE MAIN CHARACTER!"

"But whatever... If you're curious about what kind of chaos comes next, stay tuned. Don't run off, or you'll regret missing out on my glorious brand of absolute nonsense."

"And as for the author..."

"DO YOU SERIOUSLY NOT HAVE ANY OTHER CANDIDATES TO BE YOUR MAIN CHARACTER?!"

"UGHHHH! WHATEVER! CIAO~!"

Krishna pointed at the camera, his eyes narrowing with a knowing look. A satisfied grin spread across his face, as though he knew something nobody else did.

"Just you wait," he said casually.

The screen slowly faded to black.

TO BE CONTINUED...

But don't worry, our relationship isn't what's getting left hanging. 😜
