Chapter 1 - Double Trouble

It was a normal evening in the city of Musutafu. The hot air of summer was starting to cool as the sun set.

A warm orange glow engulfed the sky, painting a beautiful backdrop.

Its citizens were outside, enjoying the peaceful scene.

At least, all but one family.

An old family car sped through the relatively empty road.

"Woah! Watch out!!" a few pedestrians exclaimed as it swooshed past them, ruffling their clothes.

Hisashi Midoriya muttered apologies under his breath as he pressed down on the gas pedal.

A cry of pain came from the back seat.

Trying his hardest to keep track of the road, his eyes flicked briefly toward the back.

"Inko, dear, deep breaths!" he exclaimed. "We're almost there!"

Inko Midoriya could only reply with another pained cry. Her beautiful green hair was now disheveled as she lay in the back seat, a bigger than normal bump on her stomach.

SCREECH

The vehicle came to a halt as Hisashi slammed the brakes, grimacing at the sudden jolt that shook the car. Moving quickly, he rushed inside the hospital, calling for assistance.

[7 hours later]

A very tired Midoriya sat outside the Emergency Ward.

His droopy eyes threatened to close, yet his mind didn't allow for such comfort.

He drifted back to the words the doctor had spoken when he was thrown out:

"We are facing complications with the childbirth. I'm afraid surgery is our only option. Please wait outside, Midoriya-san."

Hisashi's grey eyes had darted toward the room where his wife lay, surrounded by dozens of medical devices. That was over five hours ago, yet the red light above the operating room still hadn't dimmed.

Bleep

A soft beep snapped him out of his thoughts.

The red light outside the door had finally gone dark.

His legs straightened at once, his breath quickening.

He wanted to barge inside, to see his wife, to know...

...but his body refused to move. The usually energetic man stood frozen in place, too afraid of what he might find on the other side.

The door pushed open, and a tired-looking nurse stepped out.

"Congratulations, Midoriya-san. You are now the father of two little Midoriyas."

Hisashi Midoriya was a manly man; a tall, muscular figure who radiated strength.

And he definitely did not cry that day.

"Izuku! Tatsu! Breakfast is ready, dear!"

"Coming!"

Inko Midoriya was a beautiful woman, radiating motherly charm with wisps of delicate feminine grace. She wiped her hands on her apron, smiling at her little ball of sunshine as he darted into the kitchen.

"Mumma!" he shouted, leaping into her arms with all the enthusiasm of a Labrador in human skin.

Inko picked him up and twirled in place. "Where's your brother, Izu dear? Go wake him up! Today's your first day of school." She set Izuku down gently, ruffling his green tuft of hair. "Get ready fast and come eat, baby," she added with a warm smile.

Izuku nodded and sprinted off. "Brotherrrrr!"

It was a normal morning at the Midoriya household, filled with joy and laughter, the enticing smell of breakfast making anyone hungry, and the chorus of shouts: "I am HERE! Brotherrrrr! Wake up!!"

And I am Tatsuya Midoriya; the elder brother of Izuku Midoriya by precisely thirteen minutes and forty-six seconds.

And this is the story of how I became this world's protector.
