Chapter 18 - Chapter 18

Episode 18: Fight or Lose Her

The forest went silent again.

Marcus stood at the bottom of the pit, breathing hard.

Above him… Elara stood frozen.

But she was changing.

"Elara!" Marcus shouted. "Fight it! Don't let it control you!"

She held her head, shaking.

"I… I'm trying…" she said weakly.

Her voice echoed strangely… like two voices speaking at once.

The creature stood behind her, smiling wider.

"She is breaking…"

Marcus's heart pounded.

"No! She's stronger than you!" he shouted.

Elara screamed.

Her body jerked.

Dark shadows wrapped around her arms… her neck… her eyes.

"Marcus…" she whispered.

"I… can't… hold it…"

Then—

She stopped moving.

Slowly… she lifted her head.

And when she looked down at him…

Her eyes were no longer hers.

They were dark.

Empty.

Marcus froze.

"Elara…?"

She jumped.

From the top of the pit—

Straight down at him.

Marcus barely rolled away before she hit the ground hard.

The impact cracked the earth.

She stood up slowly… too slowly… like something controlling her body.

"Elara… stop… please…" Marcus said, stepping back.

She tilted her head.

Then spoke—

But it wasn't her voice.

"Hunter… you cannot save her…"

Marcus's chest tightened.

"No… no…"

She attacked.

Fast.

Faster than before.

Marcus barely blocked her strike with his sword.

The force pushed him back.

"I don't want to fight you!" he shouted.

She didn't answer.

She attacked again.

And again.

And again.

Marcus struggled to keep up.

Every move she made was sharp… deadly… perfect.

The forest was using her.

"Stop it!" Marcus yelled, pain in his voice.

"You're not this! You're Elara! You helped me! You saved me!"

For a second…

She paused.

Marcus saw it.

Hope.

"Elara…?"

Her hand trembled.

Her eyes flickered.

"I… I'm… still here…" she whispered faintly.

But then—

The creature's voice echoed again.

"Break him."

Her body snapped back into motion.

She screamed—this time louder, more painful.

"No! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"

Marcus rushed forward.

"Elara! Listen to me! You are stronger than this! You are not the forest!"

She dropped to her knees, shaking violently.

"I… don't want to hurt you…" she cried.

Marcus slowly lowered his sword.

"It's okay… I trust you…"

Silence.

Heavy.

Dangerous.

Then suddenly—

She looked up.

And rushed at him again.

Marcus's eyes widened.

He had no time.

No choice.

He raised his sword—

And blocked her attack at the last second.

Their faces were close now.

Tears ran down her face.

"Marcus…" she whispered.

"Help me…"

His hands shook.

He couldn't do it.

He couldn't hurt her.

But the forest whispered louder.

The creature was near.

Watching.

Waiting.

Marcus realized something terrifying…

If he didn't act now—

He would lose her forever.

He closed his eyes for a second.

Pain filled his chest.

"Elara… forgive me…"

He moved.
