Episode 23: The Final Strike
The forest went completely silent.
No wind.
No whispers.
No movement.
Like everything… was waiting.
Marcus stood before the black tree.
His sword raised.
His hands shaking.
Behind him…
Elara stood quietly.
Fading.
But peaceful.
"Marcus…" she called softly.
He didn't turn.
He couldn't.
If he looked at her…
He might stop.
"Thank you… for choosing what is right," she said.
His chest tightened painfully.
Tears rolled down his face.
"I'm sorry…" he whispered.
The tree pulsed.
Louder.
Faster.
Like it knew what was coming.
The trapped souls inside it began to move wildly.
Reaching out.
Screaming silently.
The first hunter stood still, watching.
No smile.
No words.
Marcus took one step forward.
Then another.
"I will end this…" he said quietly.
The darkness around the tree began to rise.
Trying to stop him.
Trying to hold him back.
But Marcus didn't stop.
He remembered everything—
The fear…
The pain…
The fights…
Elara's smile…
With a loud shout—
"I WILL END THIS!"
He drove his sword…
Straight into the heart of the tree.
Everything exploded.
A deafening scream filled the forest.
The ground shook violently.
The tree cracked open, black light bursting out in all directions.
Marcus was thrown backward, hitting the ground hard.
The forest began to break.
Trees split apart.
Shadows screamed and disappeared.
The trapped souls inside the tree rose into the air—
Free.
Marcus slowly lifted his head.
His ears rang.
His body weak.
"Elara…" he whispered.
He looked around.
The tree… was gone.
The darkness… fading.
Light began to fall from above.
Real light.
Warm.
Peaceful.
But Elara…
She stood in front of him.
Still.
Faint.
Almost gone.
Marcus struggled to stand.
"Elara… stay… please…"
She smiled softly.
Her body glowing gently now.
"You did it…" she said.
Tears filled his eyes.
"But I lost you…"
She shook her head slowly.
"No…"
She stepped closer.
Even as she faded more.
"You set me free…"
Marcus's voice broke.
"I don't want to lose you…"
Her hand touched his face.
Warm… but fading.
"You won't…" she whispered.
He looked confused.
"What do you mean?"
She smiled again.
Soft.
Peaceful.
"I was part of the forest…"
Her body began to turn into light.
"But now…"
"…I am free."
Marcus's heart pounded.
"Elara…!"
Her form faded more.
"Live… Marcus…" she said gently.
Her voice became softer…
"Live… for both of us…"
And then—
She was gone.
The light around him grew stronger.
The forest… was no more.
Marcus fell to his knees.
Tears falling freely.
But the darkness…
Was finally gone.
Behind him—
The first hunter stood…
Looking at the light.
For the first time…
His face changed.
Peace.
Then slowly…
He faded away too.
Everything…
Was over.
Or so it seemed.
