Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Trash of the Blue Mountain

The cold was the first thing Han felt. It wasn't the clean, air-conditioned cold of the hospital where he had spent his final days on Earth. This was a damp, bone-chilling frost that smelled of wet earth and ancient dust.

"Wake up, you useless waste of rice!"

A heavy leather boot slammed into Han's ribs. The pain was white-hot and jagged, forcing a gasp from his lungs. He rolled across a dirt floor, his vision swimming. As he pushed himself up, he didn't see white hospital walls. He saw a dilapidated wooden shack, a flickering oil lamp, and three teenagers dressed in charcoal-grey martial robes.

Where am I? Han thought, his head throbbing. I died. I remember the heart monitor flatlining...

Suddenly, a transparent screen hummed to life in his field of vision. It was minimalist, sleek, and pulsed with a soft golden light.

[SYSTEM INITIALIZING...]

Reward: 100 EXP, 1x Starter Gift Box, +2 Strength.

Failure: Death or permanent disability.

Han stared at the screen. A system? Like the novels he'd read to pass the time in the oncology ward?

"Are you deaf as well as crippled?" The boy in the lead, Wei, sneered. He was taller than the others, with a cruel twist to his lips. He held a small, glowing stone in his hand—a Low-Grade Spirit Stone. "I know you hid the Spirit Stone the Sect gave out this morning. Hand it over, and maybe I won't break your fingers."

Han searched his memories. Fragments flooded in: He was an orphan, taken in by the Blue Mountain Sect out of pity. His "spirit roots" were muddy and clogged, making it impossible for him to gather Qi. He was the Sect's punching bag.

Not anymore, Han thought. A cold spark of anger, suppressed through years of sickness in his past life, finally caught fire.

"I don't have it," Han said, his voice raspy but firm. He stoodup slowly, clutching his aching side.

Wei laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. "Then I'll just have to dig it out of your throat!"

Wei lunged forward, his fist glowing with a faint, blurry light. To a normal person, it was fast. But to Han, the System suddenly highlighted Wei's movement in red.

[COMBAT LOG]

Enemy: Wei (Level 3 - Body Refining)

Analysis: Lunging punch. High power, zero balance.

Counter-path highlighted.

A glowing dotted line appeared on the floor, showing Han exactly where to step. He didn't think; he moved.

Han pivoted his lead foot just three inches to the left. Wei's fist whistled past his ear, the wind of the strike stinging his skin. Using Wei's own momentum against him, Han reached out and grabbed Wei's silk collar, pulling him forward while simultaneously sticking his foot out.

"Wha—!"

Wei tripped spectacularly, face-planting into the mud outside the shack door.

The two other lackeys stood frozen. They had never seen "Trash Han" move like that. Usually, he just curled into a ball and took the beating.

Wei scrambled up, his face smeared with filth and his nose bleeding. "You... you dared!" He roared, his face contorting. "I'll kill you! I'll actually kill you!"

He drew a short iron dagger from his belt. The air in the small shack grew heavy.

Han's heart raced, but the golden screen stayed steady.

Warning: Host is in critical danger.

Emergency Option: Would you like to consume 10% Soul Essence to activate [System Overdrive: 10 Seconds]?

Yes / No?

Han looked at the crazed look in Wei's eyes. In this world, there were no police. No doctors. Only the strong survived.

Yes, Han thought fiercely. Do it!

A surge of electricity erupted from his spine, flowing into his limbs. The world slowed down. He could see the dust motes dancing in the lamplight. He could see the pulse jumping in Wei's neck.

[OVERDRIVE ACTIVE: 09s... 08s...]

Wei swung the dagger. Han didn't just dodge—he caught Wei's wrist. With a sickening pop, he twisted it. The dagger fell. Han caught it mid-air and pressed the cold iron against Wei's throat before the boy could even scream.

"One more move," Han whispered into Wei's ear, "and we find out if the Sect cares about one less bully."

The silence was absolute. Wei's eyes went wide, his pupils trembling. He could feel the killing intent radiating off Han—a cold, sharp aura that shouldn't belong to a boy.

A warm golden light washed over Han. The pain in his ribs vanished. His muscles tightened, becoming lean and corded. He felt a tiny trickle of heat—Qi—beginning to circulate in his chest.

Han shoved Wei away. "Get out. And if I see you near this shack again, I won't use the blunt side of the knife."

Wei and his cronies didn't wait. they scrambled into the darkness, tripping over each other in their haste to escape the "demon" they had accidentally awakened.

Han stood alone in the quiet shack, the system screen still glowing before him. He looked at his hands, which were no longer trembling.
