Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Architect’s Grave

The waterfall roared like a trapped beast, the spray hitting Han's face with the force of gravel. Following the pulse of the Mystery Key, he stepped behind the curtain of water.

There, etched into the slick mossy rock, was a geometric seal that didn't belong in a world of swords and sorcery. It looked like a circuit board.

[ITEM DETECTED: Iron-Grade Mystery Key]

Action: Insert into the "Primary Input Port."

Warning: Entering the Founder's Personal Archive.

Security Level: 15. Your Level: 5.

Han didn't flinch. He jammed the key into a rectangular slot in the rock. The mountain groaned. The stone didn't slide away; it de-materialized into a shower of blue pixels.

Inside was a hall of white metal and humming lights. This wasn't a tomb. It was a laboratory.

"System," Han whispered, his eyes darting across rows of glass canisters containing preserved organs of mythical beasts. "Is this still the Azure Continent?"

Result: This is a Pre-System Substation.

Lore Fragment: 10,000 years ago,

"Cultivation" was a science project. The Founder was a Lead Engineer.

Han walked deeper until he reached a central pedestal. Floating above it was a weapon that made his skin crawl. It was a sword, but the blade was made of a dark, translucent liquid that ebbed and flowed like a heartbeat.

[TREASURE FOUND: The Living Fractal (Growth-Type Weapon)]

Current Rank: Mortal (Evolves with Host).

Special Trait: [Data Eater] - Can consume the techniques of killed enemies to permanently increase your stats.

Requirement: Feed it a drop of "Transmigrator Blood."

Han reached out. As his finger touched the liquid blade, the sword surged up his arm like a parasite. It didn't cut him—it merged. A black tattoo of a sword blade appeared on his right forearm, pulsing with violet light.

[STRENGTH +10]

[INTELLIGENCE +5]

Suddenly, the laboratory lights turned a violent, flashing crimson.

[INTRUDER ALERT: SECURITY DRONES ACTIVATED]

Enemy: 4x Stone-Sentinel Drones (Level 12).

Logic: You cannot win a head-on fight.

System Suggestion: Test your new skill: [Void-Step]

The floor panels slid open. Four mechanical statues made of heavy granite and glowing red wiring climbed out. They didn't breathe. They didn't bow. They simply raised heavy stone lances and charged.

"Ten levels above me," Han muttered, feeling the cold weight of the Living Fractal tattoo on his arm. "Let's see if I can break the physics of this room."

The first Sentinel lunged. Its lance was a blur of speed.

Han closed his eyes. He didn't look at the lance; he looked at the code of the air behind the Sentinel.

[SKILL ACTIVATED: VOID-STEP]

Pop.

The world blinked. For a microsecond, Han was in a vacuum of pure darkness. When his eyes opened, he was standing directly behind the Sentinel's neck.

He didn't use a normal punch. He willed the Living Fractal to manifest. The liquid metal exploded from his tattoo, forming a jagged, obsidian blade in his grip.

"Consume," Han hissed.

He drove the blade into the glowing red power core on the Sentinel's back.

The liquid sword didn't just break the core; it drank it. The red energy was sucked into the blade, flowing up Han's arm and into his own Dantian.

[SENSORY OVERLOAD!]

Living Fractal has consumed "Stone-Sentinel Core."

Permanent Stat Bonus: +3 Defense.

EXP Gained: 400!

The three remaining Sentinels turned, their mechanical eyes whirring. They formed a triangle, trapping Han in a corner. They raised their lances simultaneously, preparing a "Tri-Beam" execution.

Han felt the air begin to ionize. The heat was blistering.

"System, if I use Void-Step three times in a row, what happens?"

[CALCULATING...]

Result: 90% chance of "Spatial Hemorrhage" (Internal Bleeding).

Result: 10% chance of "Phase-Shift" (Temporary Invincibility).

User Status: Desperate.

"I like those odds," Han grinned.

He vanished.

Pop. He was to the left.

Pop. He was in the air.

Pop. He was right in the center of their formation as the beams fired.

The Sentinels blasted each other in a crossfire of red light, while Han—flickering like a dying lightbulb—stood in the "eye of the storm," untouched by the heat.

He swung the Living Fractal in a wide, horizontal arc. The liquid blade extended into a whip-like lash, slicing through the remaining three power cores in a single, fluid motion.

[EXP GAINED: 1,200!]

[LEVEL UP!]

[LEVEL UP!]

Current Level: 7.

New Title Gained: [Dungeon Raider] - 10%

increase to loot drops in enclosed spaces.

Han collapsed to one knee, coughing up a small spray of blood. The Void-Step had strained his new body to the limit, but the rewards were worth it.

He looked at the central pedestal again. Now that the Sentinels were dead, a small compartment had opened. Inside was a dusty, leather-bound journal.

He picked it up. On the first page, written in modern English—not the characters of the Azure Continent—were four words that chilled his soul:

"PROPERTY OF PROJECT: EARTH-2."

Han's hand trembled. "The Azure Continent... it isn't another world. It's a backup."

He looked at the screen of his System. For the first time, it didn't show a quest. It showed a Timer.

[COUNTDOWN TO SYSTEM UPDATE: 48:00:00]

Warning: During the update, all "Glitches" (Transmigrators) will be purged.

Han looked at the sword tattoo on his arm. He had 48 hours to get strong enough to kill a God, or the System he relied on would delete him from existence.
