Synopsis
Fifteen years ago, mysterious dungeons began appearing across Earth. Monsters poured out from unstable gates, forcing humanity into a desperate fight for survival. Some humans awakened supernatural abilities known as Resonance, becoming powerful individuals called Awakeners. Over time, humanity adapted to this new world. But three years ago, disaster struck. A massive monster outbreak erupted from a high-rank dungeon, unleashing creatures far beyond what hunters could handle. Entire cities were threatened, and humanity braced itself for catastrophe. Then suddenly… The outbreak stopped. The monsters vanished. The dungeon collapsed. And no one ever discovered why. To this day, the event remains one of the world’s greatest mysteries. The truth? It was stopped by a single man. Ren Arclight. A ridiculously powerful archmage who sealed the source of the outbreak—the Demon Queen—and then quietly retired from the hunter world. Now he lives alone in a small apartment, enjoying his peaceful life of watching old anime and avoiding anything that looks like responsibility. Unfortunately, peace didn’t last long. Because one day… Three mysterious eggs appeared at his door. They soon hatched into three dragon girls who immediately started calling him Dad. And just when things couldn’t get any worse… The Demon Queen shows up at his apartment. Angry. Weakened. And somehow stuck helping him take care of the kids. A lazy archmage. Three chaotic dragon daughters. And a very unwilling Demon Queen babysitter. Ren just wanted a quiet life. Instead, he became the Dragon Dad.

Chapter 1 - Prologue: The Day Everything Changed

The world used to be peaceful. Normal, even. People woke up in the morning, went to work, complained about traffic, watched television at night, and worried about things like bills, deadlines, and whether the internet would suddenly stop working at the worst possible time.

Cities buzzed with life. Kids went to school. Governments argued about politics. Office workers counted the minutes until lunch break. College students stayed up far too late finishing assignments they absolutely should have started earlier.

Everything was exactly where it was supposed to be.

And then one day, it wasn't.

Without warning, strange structures began appearing across the planet.

Massive gates.

Endless labyrinths.

Impossible environments that clearly did not belong anywhere on Earth.

Some appeared in the middle of deserts. Others erupted from the middle of cities. A few manifested deep within oceans or mountains, tearing through the landscape like scars carved directly into reality.

People later called them Dungeons.

At first, humanity reacted with curiosity. Scientists rushed to study them. Governments sent researchers and military units to investigate. News channels broadcast footage twenty‑four hours a day, analysts debating what these strange phenomena could possibly be.

That curiosity did not last long.

Because eventually, the monsters came out.

Creatures that looked like they belonged in myths, legends, or video games began pouring out of unstable gates. Massive beasts with claws like swords. Winged creatures that blotted out the sky. Horrors that moved like shadows and left entire city blocks in ruins.

Military forces responded immediately. Tanks rolled into position. Fighter jets roared overhead. Missiles struck the emerging creatures with enough force to level buildings.

It helped.

But not enough.

For a while, humanity believed it was witnessing the end of the world.

Entire regions fell into chaos. Cities were evacuated. Governments declared global emergencies. Every news broadcast carried the same desperate question.

How do you fight monsters that should not exist?

Then something strange happened.

Some humans began to awaken powers.

No one knows where it came from or why it started, but certain people developed something inside their bodies called a Resonance Core. It was as if their souls had suddenly synchronized with the mysterious energy flowing out of the dungeons.

Mana.

With a Resonance Core came abilities far beyond those of ordinary humans. Strength that could shatter stone. Speed that blurred past the human eye. Magic that bent the elements to a person's will.

Fire.

Wind.

Lightning.

Ice.

Earth.

These individuals became known as Awakeners.

And for the first time since the dungeons appeared, humanity began to push back.

Years passed. The world adapted faster than anyone expected. Organizations formed around the new reality. Hunters—Awakeners who fought monsters—were licensed and regulated. Guilds rose in every major nation. Entire industries developed around dungeon exploration.

Mana crystals discovered deep inside dungeon cores became powerful energy sources. Monster materials turned into weapons, armor, medicine, and technology. Cities learned to coexist with nearby gates instead of fearing them.

Humanity survived.

More than that, it evolved.

But the dungeons were not just filled with monsters.

Sometimes, other things came through.

New species began appearing.

Elves with long ears and ancient eyes. Dwarves who could forge metal stronger than any human alloy. Beastfolk with animal traits and powerful physiques.

Not all of them were enemies.

Some chose to live alongside humanity. Some formed communities of their own. Others joined hunter guilds and fought monsters just like everyone else.

For the most part, coexistence worked.

Of course, not everything that emerged from the dungeons was peaceful.

There were also Demons.

Not every demon was evil.

But unfortunately, most of them were.

And three years ago, everything almost collapsed again.

It started with a Dungeon Break.

A high‑level dungeon destabilized somewhere in the northern hemisphere. Instead of remaining contained, the gate tore itself open completely, unleashing an army of monsters onto the surface.

Then the demons arrived.

Cities burned. Entire hunter guilds were wiped out in a matter of hours. Armies mobilized across continents as demonic forces marched across the land like an unstoppable tide.

Leading them all was a single figure.

The Demon King.

A towering being clad in black armor stood behind the battlefield, directing the invasion like a commander overseeing a war map. Demons followed its orders without hesitation. Monsters moved like disciplined soldiers under its control.

Hunters fought with everything they had.

S‑Rank Awakeners clashed against demon generals. Entire guild alliances formed overnight to stop the advance. Battles large enough to level cities erupted across the globe.

But demons were monsters even among monsters.

They were strong.

Terrifyingly strong.

For a moment, the world truly seemed on the verge of collapse.

And then suddenly...

Everything stopped.

The monsters retreated.

The demons withdrew back into the dungeons.

And the Demon King… vanished.

Just like that.

No body.

No explanation.

No victory announcement.

No final battle broadcast on the news.

It was as if the entire invasion had simply decided it was done and walked away.

No one understood what had happened.

No one except one person.

Me.

My name is Ren Arclight.

Technically speaking, I'm an Awakener.

A slightly unusual one.

While most people developed elemental Resonance—fire, wind, lightning, things like that—I awakened something called Arcane Resonance. Instead of controlling a single element, I could manipulate mana directly.

What that actually meant took me a while to figure out.

Mostly because there wasn't really a rulebook for it.

So I experimented.

A lot.

People probably imagine there was some heroic motivation behind all that training. Saving the world. Protecting humanity. Becoming a legendary hunter whose name would be remembered forever.

But the truth was much simpler.

I just wanted to make enough money to retire early and live a peaceful slow life.

You know.

Snacks.

Games.

Anime.

The important things.

And honestly, things were going pretty well.

Until three years ago.

That was the day my favorite anime got cancelled.

I was watching a slow‑life farming isekai series. Very relaxing. Very wholesome. Just a guy living peacefully in another world, growing vegetables, making friends, and not dealing with any life‑threatening catastrophes.

It was perfect background viewing after a long day of dungeon clearing.

Then the episode ended.

And the announcement appeared on screen.

"Due to the recent demon attacks, the animation studio producing this series has been destroyed. The project will be permanently cancelled."

I stared at the screen for a very long time.

Very quietly.

Very calmly.

Then I stood up.

Walked to the nearest high‑level dungeon.

Entered it.

Fought my way down through several floors of monsters.

Eventually reached the throne room where the Demon King was directing the invasion.

There was a massive armored demon sitting on a throne made from black stone and monster bones, calmly observing a battlefield projection like it was planning tomorrow's weather forecast.

I looked at it.

It looked at me.

And I said something along the lines of:

"Hey."

The Demon King tilted its helmet slightly.

"What?"

"You destroyed my anime studio."

The battle that followed was… intense.

There were explosions. A lot of explosions. Reality bent in several directions it probably wasn't supposed to bend. Entire sections of the dungeon ceiling stopped existing for a while.

Normal high‑level combat stuff.

In the end, I sealed the Demon King using a spell called Absolute Seal.

Which used up most of my mana reserves.

Totally worth it.

Once the Demon King disappeared, the entire invasion collapsed almost immediately. Monsters retreated. Demons withdrew back into the dungeons. The global catastrophe simply… ended.

Of course, no one knew why.

Which meant I was able to quietly disappear from the whole situation without anyone realizing what had actually happened.

After that, I retired.

Finally.

A peaceful life.

Snacks.

Games.

Anime.

Everything I had worked so hard for.

And for three whole years…

It was perfect.

Until the day three mysterious eggs appeared at my apartment door.

But that…

is a story for later.
