Chapter 1 - Drenched and Humiliated

I felt the rain pouring down onto my clothes as I looked up at the person who just kicked me out of a building.

"Na-...!"

I saw an Odachi get thrown at me and I instinctively caught it but felt a burning pain in my palm.

"Kngh!"

The scabbard cut me.

I used my other hand to balance the huge blade and found a blunt part of the scabbard; I could feel blood leaving my palm as it dripped down onto a puddle that formed nearby, although I heard chains rattle when I grabbed it, I was focused on something else.

The unmoving gaze that stopped my movements, her pale golden eyes seeing through me, then she turned and closed the doors on me as she left me alone on the doorsteps of her office. I looked up at the sigil of her office, a thorny nest with a red flame in the center of it and right next to it, the words "Iron Nest".

Without her presence I stood up and clenched hard on the blunt part of the scabbard, the pain was overwhelming, but I ignored it and started walking away. My jaw tightened and steps heavy as other people moved out of my path with worried expressions on their faces, I could hear them murmuring amongst themselves already.

I headed down a familiar road and found the apartment building I lived in, I stomped up the stairs and after fumbling with the keycard to my apartment room slammed my door open, I threw the odachi onto my floor and mended the wound on my palm. I exhaled looking at my bandaged hand, I had a few bruises on me as well.

She got me good.

I closed my door and headed to my room, my heart was banging in my skull as I opened up my fixer profile, it took a while for the page to load but I dropped down to Grade 5.

"You kicked me out for no reason and drop my grade too?"

I turned off the computer, seeing my face reflected on its black screen. These shades blocked me from seeing my eyes, but I'd like to keep it that way. My breathing was quick and harsh, my heartbeat was spiking abnormally and my hands were shaking.

"You should've just killed me, but no this is a good chance."

I pushed the stray wet locks that covered my face when I rushed here aside to frame my face.

"I'll make an Office that's better and stronger than yours..."

I stood up from my office chair and looked at the Odachi on the ground.

"...and make you face the same humiliation I felt."

After that I took some time to clean myself up and was now dressed in more casual clothes, I eyed the Iron Nest Coat hanging on a stand I had on earlier before looking down at the Odachi on the ground, I picked it up and assessed it. It seems like I wasn't seeing things or hearing them either.

Three chains.

I looked at where the chains came from and they're on the tsuba of the Odachi. The tsuba is large, gold, and rectangular with two holes on the side and one on the top.

But why is it chained up like this?

I tried to unsheathe it but after several pathetic grunts I gave up on trying to unsheathe it.

The Odachi is taller than me, I am really tall compared to my peers, but this is really shocking, I ran my hand along the black scabbard, it has swirling smoky cloud pattern on it. I made sure not to get my fingers close to its sharp edge. It cuts pretty well though, I'll have to test it out in combat. I then grabbed the handle; it's the same color as the guard but it has black cords around it. The kashira also shares the same color as the guard.

"Who made this weapon?"

I raised an eyebrow at the creator's taste but saw an inscription between the guard and scabbard.

Enenra... this is an inscription from our area.

I finished inspecting the Odachi and stood up. I got kicked out of my office, but I can't just stand still like this. I can only save myself in this situation. I turned my gaze to my phone that was on a counter and picked it up. I've made some connections past my 3 years of being a Fixer, I scrolled through my contact list and started calling people.

"Yes, hello this is the Fixer Rxbot we met-"

I heard the call get cut off, my eyes widened at how quickly he hung up on me.

You didn't need to pick up the phone you know?

My phone shook in my hand as I continued to make more and more calls.

"Mm... yes."

That was my 5th call, they either hung up after answering it, showered me with excuses or just let my phone ring.

I looked at one final contact; it was the Office Rep for Stillharvest Office Dan-Oh.

The phone vibrated in my hand until he picked up.

"Dan-Oh, I need a contract. Let me do one under your office's name, we can split it 60/40 with you taking 60."

I then heard his calm flowing voice come through my phone.

"The murky clouds pour down on the stray bird. Forced out of the Nest to fly the bird fell... but he's still falling. Will this bird learn to fly before he hits the ground?"

I paused for a bit my mouth opening and closing indecisively before finally answering him.

"This bird will flap his wings to soar higher than his nest. Only then will the clouds be soothed."

"Meet me at my office tomorrow."

He hung up and I let out a sigh of relief with a slight grin touching my face.

"Okay..."

I stared down at Enenra and then said with a more determined tone.

"Okay! Enough inspecting, I should test this blade out before heading out on that contract tomorrow."

I grabbed the blunt part of the scabbard and headed out, a bounce in each step as I closed the door. Looking at the night sky of S Corp's Nest, my locks swayed from the wind hitting my cheeks and shades.

"I'll just need to borrow some materials to practice with."

I left my apartment building as I started to head to a building, I'm very familiar with, its flickering sign saying, "Renata Workshop".
