Chapter 1 - Horizon Spaceship

Avalon, all system online>

A cold mechanical voice reverberated in a headset, as the holographic image of a sleek spaceship appeared.

The Horizon was an advanced military frigate that was disguised as a civilian ship, it featured blue energy lines tracing its edges. The ship glinted under the sun rays with a crimson haze, as it felt more like an unsheathed sword.

The Horizon featured a diamond shaped cockpit lined with black patterns, as its hull elongated into a long elegant stretch with multiple sharp inward facing extensions that felt more like daggers.

The hologram spun to reveal its engine bay, as it featured a quad thruster fused with the hull, and four small combat thrusters designed like rose cores at the tip of the x shaped wings.

A smile bloomed on a young man's face as he looked at the holographic image.

"Dad, thank you so much!"

The young man beamed, as his golden hair glittered in the sun, creating a mysterious haze around him.

A hand patted him on the shoulder, revealing a hint of warmth and familiarity, as a middle aged man smiled without saying a word.

This was the best day in his life. Avalon just turned eighteen and everything changed, as he was given something very precious by his father.

The Horizon frigate was normally considered an unarmed civilian ship with sharp and menacing features, but this particular version held a secret. It was one of the most advanced combat frigates equipped with a polarity cannon and an additional shard battery for close range combat.

It's not legal for a normal civilian to own such an advanced ship, but that's also one of the many lies of the society, as the license could still be acquired if you look in the right places—that's if you could afford it though.

"I must test it out myself, the remote access can't replace the real thing."

The young man said with regret as he couldn't leave the planet yet until he sorted out his components from the scrapyard.

 Warning!

Unidentified warp signature detected, evacuate the perimeter>

The Horizon's AI notified them in a tense voice, as this was an unexpected development.

The smile on the middle aged man quickly vanished, as he snatched the headset to rapidly salvage the situation.

"No!

 No!

 No!

This was a forced warp,

It should have been those bastards!"

Avalon was confused by the intensity of the situation. At first he thought it was a pirate attack, but judging by the tension on his dad's face, it could have been worse.

He shoved all the thoughts from his head instantly, as he scrambled to get his phone, and tapped rapidly on it.

Space warped and stretched, as various colors began to swirl in the empty space.

The test flight of the Horizon was abandoned with immediate effect, as they instructed it to descend on the surface of the planet.

Seconds ticked by as the phenomenon got bigger and bigger, yet the Horizon was still halfway out of the zone, as this event spanned and expanded multiple kilometers per second.

'Please make it!

Please!'

That was the only thought on Avalon's mind as he couldn't afford to lose this ship no matter what.

It felt like a lot of time had passed, but in reality this was all in the span of eight seconds.

Then it happened! Gravity began to distort light as a massive structure the size of Earth's moon appeared in within the zone.

It was so sudden!

They watched in horror as the holographic display presented a reality that would linger in the young man's head for a very long time. A tragic scene, as the gravitational force of this gigantic fortress pulled the Horizon off course, heading for collision.

Flash!

A massive ball of flames erupted, and then everything went blank. The Horizon was no more!

Avalon felt something shatter in his head, he fell deep into the darkest part of his mind and resurfaced again.

The young man was way past the point of anger, so much so that he became terrifyingly calm.

The middle aged man seemed to have aged visibly during this time frame, as he held the guard rails for support.

The view underneath him seemed to be blurry and fragmented.

"Son, my deepest relief is that you were not personally testing that ship!"

The middle aged man gradually eased up from his tense imagination of what would have happened if his son was onboard.

Avalon never said a word as he walked out

of the balcony. His dad almost called out to him but hesitated, and ultimately let him go— enough had transpired.

Avalon's mind was blank as he hit the bed and darkness claimed him.

Beep!

Beep!

A hand stretched out and hit the snooze button of a crystalline alarm clock.

With a shake of its head, the figure shrugged off strands of his golden hair to reveal an immaculate sculpture of a face.

Despite how stressed he looked, that couldn't hide the aura of mystery around him at all.

Remember you should be at the scrapyard by now>

A sweet robotic voice rang out in the room, as Avalon quickly checked the alarm and it was already past eight.

"I know Ava,

Thanks for the reminder."

He stood up and disappeared into the futuristic bathroom, as a mechanical hum rang out.

"We have detected a major asteroid heading for the planet, but we all know there is nothing to fret as it will be intercepted before reaching the orbital defense."

The News was broadcasted all over the city of Still Heart, as many just glanced at the holographic displays before heading back to their business.

A modified hyper car zoomed through the street, as its streamlined features gave an icy glow that felt cold just by looking at it. Double exhaust ports spit out blue plumes behind it, as the patterns on its tyres swirled like a vortex of water.

Heads turned as many kids made gestures in the air while taking pictures of the vehicle.

The day seemed to be going fine, but for a certain young man, it was not.

He drove the car, filtering out all the attention he was getting as his mind reeled with questions and chaos.

'Who were the bastards that destroyed his spaceship?

Where were they heading to in such a hurry that they had to force warp?'

All these questions echoed in his mind, but the answer was still not in sight.
